Golfer Reviews
Great Layout
Very good layout which requires accuracy and shot making. Carts have GPS which is required because of the many uphill 2nd shots. Greens are speedy and fun to putt. Worth the fee if you want a challenge to your handicap of 20 or below!
ok course
Hole 16 was closed no signs or info from clubs house about hole closer ???
Fun course
Greens, fairways and tees in good shape and well maintained. Cartpath potholes need some asphalt patching and bunkers need a golf course contractor to install new draintile, liner material and additional sand to bring course up to its potential. 16th green needs to have sand from storm hosed off and put back in service. Made 5 birdies so no big complaints:)
Every hole has a view!
My first time playing this course and it did not disappoint. Considering what happened a month earlier with Hurricane Helene, this course was in great shape. I will definitely try to make it back there.
Cleghorn Front 9 Challenge
Back 9 closed indefinitely by Storm Helene, so looped Front 9 twice; greens in great shape - firm and fast; fairways well groomed; rough reasonable; traps in poor shape; tee boxes in fair shape; cart paths a bit bumpy by broken asphalt; small bar and grill a nice amenity - thanks!
No communication
I understand if part of the course got damaged from the storm, but when you close part of it and charge full price and don’t say anything on here while booking is wrong. Just so you are aware the back 9 is closed.
Cleghorn Review
The course was in very good condition. Limited range balls due to a Srixon demo day. We had issues with the GPS shutting down the carts several times on the back nine while driving on the cart path. Otherwise it was a good day.
What the heck?
Course in good shape, pace of play was fine, I was almost alone, then found out why.
Turns out there was a scramble for 5pm, so they close the 9 on which it will take place, telling me to play the other 9 twice, even though I could have been finished with the 9 they were going to use before the scramble would have started.
That's something that should be disclosed when reserving, not witheld until you arrive at the course! If I wanted to play the same 9 twice, I'd go to a 9 hole course! They knew it was going to be that way, and should have let GP know, so it could be disclosed to people who are selecting where and when to play! If half of the course is going to be closed, they need to tell people at some point prior to the day, so other plans can be made. If not when it's being reserved, then contact me as soon as you know!
Disappointed!
Great Course.
Excellent course. Challenging but fair. Course conditions were very good with exception of one of the par 3 holes on the back. The carts have GPS. Would play again. Golf now deal for $50 is a steal.
Best greens within 60 miles
I was pleasantly surprised at the overall conditions. The greens were amazing. Best I have played in the area for quite a while.
Worth a trip
Very solid course and layout. Aside from very slow play on the back nine really enjoyed the day. Difficult course, rough was too thick but was likely due to rain, lost a few balls it was so deep.
Used to be in better shape
Club pro lacks the personality to manage the shop.
The rough was overgrown. Traps were unplayable. Drainage is a problem. 16 green was mostly under water. Had to move the ball most fairways because of standing water. They shut down the front 9 unannounced @2 pm so the members could play a dog fight beginning @ 5 pm. I was made to play the back twice. I would not waste my time driving an hour to this course again.
a ok
nice course, play was sorta slow but it was Saturday.
Great course
2nd time playing here. great deal on Golf Now. Pretty much everything was perfect. Not sure about the negative reviews here, I think there were maybe 2 tee boxes that needed work. Otherwise, fairways were perfect, greens were fast and true. We play all Asheville and surrounding area courses and this is a close 2nd to Springdale, Maggie Valley and Connestee Falls
A Wonderful Mountain Course
Cleghorn is a favorite but on this day I was almost overwhelmed by the heat. With all the rain we've had it was cart path only so that meant a lot of extra walking in very hot and humid conditions. That said, the fairways were not terribly overgrown, and the greens were terrific. The rough was very deep and would have been a test for the pro's I'm sure. It certainly cost me several shots. I love the layout and the variety the course offers and will be back from time to time.
