Some areas are dormant but no grass is growing in others Photo submitted by scsmith63 on 05/01/2015
Always a great round
We really enjoy coming to Cleghorn. Great course conditions, especially considering our recent lack of rain. Looking forward to a trip back soon.
Great
Great course and layout. Fairways have some bare spots but was not a major issue. Will play again soon
Fair Test
This course is a little remote and has a good layout of holes. It is not easy and requires well struck shots and accuracy as greens are good size. The greens in good condition as were the tee boxes. The fairways were not up to par with bare spots and very thin grass FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR. The staff was nice and carts were nice. Well worth the hot deal price but to pay 39 during the week and more on weekend plus the remoteness will probably leave it off my list. My opinion is the fairways should be a lot better for this time of year and having to hit off bare tight lies should only be for winter golf when Bermuda is dormant.
Ok now. Gonna be good in a couple weeks
Played today on a beautiful spring afternoon. The winter and early spring have been really wet and you can see some results of that on the course. The back 9 was cart path only. For the most part however the course was dried out with only wet spots here and there. The layout of the course is awesome. It helps to have played a few times to figure out some of the dog legs and elevation changes. The Bermuda in the fairways tees and rough has just started to come out of dormancy. So lies were 50/50. Some spots good. Some bare. Not the fault of the course at all. The greens however were in good shape. They weren’t really fast. But the rolled nice and smooth. Bunkers had not been raked since the rain on Friday and Saturday. So that made them more of a challenge. I got a hot deal and paid $19 including fees. It was definitely worth that price. I think the regular weekday rate is 39 and weekend is 49. Idk if I would pay those rates just yet. My advice is if you can get a hot deal go for it. It’s worth it. But if not I’d wait a couple weeks to pay full price. Once the weather warms up more consistently and the Bermuda has time to grow in the course is gonna be really nice.
Cleghorn Plantation
When we arrived a staff memeber drove down to us in golf cart to help with placing bags on carts and staff in the pro shop was great as well. Course was great and of course still early for bermuda to be fully green so in few weeks I am sure the fairways will look even better. The greens were in great condition and rolled true.
Very Nice Greens, Fairways Will Be Green Soon
I drive 55 min from Asheville to play here a few times a year, especially when I book a $12 plus fees ‘hot deal’. The greens have been superb for the last couple years. They were in fantastic shape today. The fairways weren’t that green yet and had some ‘lettuce patches’ of busy green grass in some spots but overall the fairways were fine. There was a middle or high school shotgun practice or outing which slowed the pace a bit, but still played a 4 hour round. Gorgeous 74 degree, pure blue sky day (4/10/19 - 1:50pm-6pm). The new small bar / kitchen with expanded menu is now open, prices are good. The course is not that easy, with the elevation change and some drives over water, but still very playable. I highly recommend this course and can’t wait to come back in a month or two. The spring time tree blossoms and flowing creeks added to the beauty of the course / day.
The course has great features
Greens was slow. Fairways was cut low great layout and great views. Wet in places but overall great course
Solid Value
Very good layout with good greens; smooth, quick and held well. Staff was friendly and accommodating. I’d play it again tomorrow if I could.
good course but.....
nice course, but car path only. special play at mountain course good luck
Pro is so humble
Great course with great staff please don’t play so we can keep this jewel to our self.
A hidden gem!
I had business in Forest City, so I was looking for a course nearby. Heard about Cleghorn on GolfNow. Really glad I did... I thought the course was fantastic! The layout was really fun, and challenging for the intermediate player. The pace of play was great. We never waited on anyone, and nobody was ever waiting on us. The course was in great shape. Cart path only on back 9 which gave me some much needed exercise!
For the price we paid, this course cannot be best. I’ve already told friends in CLT about this course and cannot wait to go back and play again!
Course conditions
Fairways in great condition . Leafs in fairways,a small problem . Greens in great shape. Pace of play 4 hours and 15 minutes . Great place to play !
Lighten up
Pin placements were not friendly at all. Who do they think are playing this course? The greens were in good shape and fast. They have plenty of slope and undulation as well. There is no need to try and make them more challenging with ridiculous pin placements , unless of course you want to drive away your customers.
Great course
My foursome had a great time at Cleghorn. The course was in excellent shape fairways and greens and we had no complaints at all about the course. This is a mountainous course with lots of elevation changes which will challenge you. We got an exceptional deal on golf now hot deal and thoroughly enjoyed our day there
Cleghorn GC
One of the best golf courses in Western North Carolina, and a hidden jewel to us locals. Great course with immaculate greens. Staff are VERY friendly and headed by ex ND Irish coach Dave Long. Food is prepared by retired Disney Chef's in a gourmet kitchen and they love their creations. Very difficult course, Architect also designed Quail Hollow. Play for fairways.
Great, as always
Used my golf now rewards to pay for this round The fairways are in great condition. Some of the greens are having some small problems with the turf. Several of the tee boxes are rock hard and you cant get a plastic tee into the ground so youll have to use a wooden one.
The 2 of us play pretty quickly and other groups let us play through. This is typical for other times we've played here before.
This is a fun layout to play and we will be back again
