Cleghorn golf and sports club
Really like the course it is challenging to all will play it again
Best
I play several times a week and play a wide variety of courses. This is the best course I have played in the past couple of years. My group got a great price on Golf Now ay $29 each. This is a must play course just over the SC NC line above Spartanburg SC. Tough layout, large greens, great condition. I can’t think of one complaint that my foursome had except for some of our own golf. Lots of elevation changes and challenges. I will go back. We are just under 2 hours away but we’ll worth the drive.
Great track
Had a great experience with my GolfNow booking at Cleghorn. This was a getaway opportunity, playing with my wife, her from the bronze and I from the gold tee boxes (6100 yds). There has been a lot of heavy rains recently so there were some areas with wash out but none of which effected the fairways, bunkers or greens which were in great shape. Some holes were very unusual and challenging. All in all this was a great value and we would return again.
No rain and the course was wide open
Played at 12:30 and the rain didn't come until 3:30. Course was wide open and I played in 2 1/2 hours. Great layout and conditions. The only problem was that most of the tee boxes were rock hard and difficult to get the tee in the ground. Beware that #18 is a 3 shot hole including a layup (par 5). It plays longer than it looks. Play it this way and you will avoid the water.
Fantastic Course
Course had 3 inches of rain yesterday; therefore, we were on cart path only on the second nine. Greens were bumpy and slow because they had recently been punched. Great course that I will absolutely play again.
Great layout and value
A great golf course for the money. Greens were recently aerated (reflected in price). Rest of course was in VG shape
Will play it again!
Nice course
Course was in great shape except that they plugged the greens last week.
Great track for a great price!
What a bargain!. My wife and I paid the Hot Deal $18 to play. The regular rate for the week was $20. TAKE THE DEAL!!! This is a very well maintained course with great scenery. The aerated greens were not a big deal given the excellent condition of the rest of the course. Challenging layout but certainly fair. We played in about 3 hours as there were very few on the course. Gem of a course!
Great comeback
I haven't played this course in years but I will go back frequently. After lots of uncertainty about what would happen it's the course it has comeback in style. Conditions are excellent. Fairways are well covered and they run nicely. Greens are firm, moderately fast and true. It is a delight. The Pro Shop was warm and welcoming. We arrived very early and he sent us right out. Congratulations for bringing this challenging treat back. Go play Cleghorn, enjoy the test and send your friends.
Great Staff and Great Greens.
Staff was so helpful and genuinely glad to see us. True family atmosphere where we saw the Golf Pro helping the staff with food preparation for the members 4th celebration. Will keep bringing all friend that come to visit to this great course.
Good shape! Tough Course!
Played for the first time in a long time at Cleghorn this morning. First the course is in really good shape. If you are not hitting it well this course will absolutely eat you up. It did me especially on the front 9! The greens are near perfect. Firm and pretty fast but not overly so and really smooth. The fairways and tees were mowed or in the process of being mowed and were in good shape. Only thing that stops it from being 5 Star is there are a few spots on the fairways and tees with winter kill still and there are some spots around the edges that are rough. But you can see evidence that they are working on those areas. I had the first tee time off on a Friday morning and thought it was a good value for $36
Good round
I was disappointed that the back 9 was closed due to flooding. Otherwise, it was all good.
Beautiful setting with rolling hills
Very challenging course but in great shape. Definitely a place to return. Staff very friendly. The only negative was playing the same day a tournament was scheduled.
can't wait to go back to Cleghorn
Don't forget to pack your camera with your clubs! Incredibly true greens.
Disappointing
Had a good friend visiting from Michigan and looking for a challenging course to play in western NC. After visiting the website and reading reviews, most of which were favorable we decided to give Cleghorn Plantation a try. Upon arrival we were greeted by an attendant in the parking lot who brought us a cart, so far so good. Couldn't believe that the round was only $33 and that the course was nearly empty at 9 A.M. proceeded to the 1st hole and lost my tee shot to the left after hitting the fairway and watching my ball slide off to the left and into the woods. Unfortunately we were to soon discover that the majority of the holes had severe slopes with little grass to hold a shot. I live and play on a mountain course in the Asheville area and am very familiar with a challenging track, but Cleghorn is ridiculous and hardly what I would describe as fair, more like penalizing. Greens had recently been punched and were hard and fast. Most of the tee boxes were devoid of grass and signage was poor. Aside from the staff and views, there is very little to recommend here. Save your money and look elsewhere for a mountain course, there are plenty in western north and south Carolina that far outshine this one.
Really INTERESTING course
I and from Pinehurst and have played a TON of great courses and this was by far one of the most interesting. The course elevation made things quite difficult and made for some amazing views! Pretty tough course!
Many improvements
You can see they have put a lot of work in on condition of the entire property. It is paying off. Best shape I've ever seen it. And ive played it many times over the last 9 years
It’s a difficult course, with lots of ups and downs. But it was great.
Challenging Mountain Course
The course is a typical mountain course with very hilly terrain and tight fairways. The course condition was typical for a mountain course for this time of year. Fairway grasses had not come in yet so were hard with a lot of roll and lays were generally poor. Tee boxes could use a lot of work when weather conditions improve. I think this would be a good play in another month or two and into the fall. Would be a good location for a group outing as there accommodations and fairly extensive sports facilities available on site..
Great Course
I make it to western North Carolina 3-4 times a year and Cleghorn Plantation has been my must play every visit since I discovered it 2 years ago. It's a challenge. I'm a 4-5 handicap and can enjoy a relaxing fair challenge from the middle tees or move to the back tees and be tested. It offers great views with challenging elevation changes. The greens have been in great condition every time I played. This last visit was the 1st time that the pace of play was a little slow for my liking but I still finished in 4 hours and 20 minutes. From the picturesque drive up to the club house, the driving range, practice green, club house, food and great course this place offers everything you need for a great day of golf.

This was my 1st time playing Cleghorn and I have to say I was disappointed that the back 9 was closed due to flooding! The front 9 looked great and I was having a great round until me and my friends got to the 7th hole and found the grounds grew cutting the greens and did not stop and move off the green for use to play thru. So we got thru then played the 8th hole and got on the 9th hole and there was the grounds crew on the 9th green again. Needless to say I was very unhappy it was 2 in the afternoon and they only had 9 holes that golfers would be playing why did they not cut the greens early in the morning! None the less why would the grounds crew not get off the green when there was golfers on the tee box. I voiced my thoughts to Mr Long the manager of the resort and he was a super nice gentleman and told us to play as much golf as we wanted the rest of the day and gave us vouchers to return and play 18 holes for free at anytime. I was disappointed but the pro shop staff was super nice and accommodating. I can’t wait to go back and play the whole 18 holes and I think things were said to the head grounds keeper and the grounds crew will be more respectful to golfers from now on. Thank u Mr. Long!!
