A Frank Analysis
I have played this course several times over the past few years most recently on 7/13/16.
First, regarding the course, tee boxes have little or no grass andare firm, making it very difficult to insert tees; fairways are a weed patch, and greens are moderately good.
Secondly, the price is very reasonable; the people are very friendly and allow faster players to play through. There is hardly ever any wait to tee off. It should take no more than 3 hours from the blue tees.
Thirdly, this is a good course to use as a warmup for the area's other courses, or if you haven't played in awhile.
All in all, it is very good value for the aforementioned purposes, however, I could not recommend this course to my friends because of its overall condition.
Average Course but Good Value
Lake Junaluska is an average to easy course to play, but is a great value. The course is currently suffering from drought conditions, and the unsprinklered areas are brown. Otherwise the fairways and greens are in average condition. We got rained out after 8 holes, but enjoyed the round....it's an easy laid back track.
Nice warm up course
The course is in need of rain...so is the whole area.
Greens are in good shape but the ground is hard as a rock (needs rain). Friendly staff...no beer/alcohol allowed as it is tied directly to the Methodist retreat across the street. They closed the snack bar at 2:00. I think there was a youth group playing the course as we finished. Young lady was gracious enough to make me a sandwich at 2:10, anyway. It;s a good place to get your game in shape. Most often the course in fairly empty and you can hit a couple of extra shots to tune up.
Old School Fun Course, great views and location
This course reminded me of a course I grew up playing, Pine Grove in Shelby, NC , which sadly is out of business now. I liked the rustic dirt paths and the fairways being just a little higher grass than most places. The front nine was awesome and the back nine was different. I think if you played here a few times and learned the course it would be fun, the first time was a challenge. It's short and tight. Overall a good experience and great value.
Fun course
Short. Has a few holes at end that will make you say, they really crammed these holes in. They have four power poles in the middle of the fairway on one hole. Other than the few crammed holes, overall a fun course for the money!
Slow play
Overbooked...5 hour playtime
Good value for January
Lake Junaluska is a good challenge, even tho its length is well under 6,000yds. What it lacks in length, it demands in accuracy & distance control, in order to hit their small greens. Several blind tee shots or blind approach shots to greens, make it tough to break 75 here. A good value & a fun layout, override the sometimes slow play. I'll be back.
It Wasn't The Course"s Fault.
I"ve always enjoyed playing Lake Junaluska but the course was so wet that it wasn't enjoyable. We have endured so much rain over the past couple of weeks that the course had a lot of standing water. The areas that didn't have standing water the grounds were just muddy and slippery. In fairness to the course, this was just the circumstances of the weather.
This course is well-maintained considering the fact that it is seldom cart path only.
Course Super (Rick) maintains a good course ...with staff and often labors himself.
7 par three's - way too many
overall course par 4's too short. par 5's are ok..
4 of par three's around 100 yds
course - good place to practice short game
Great Views of the lake
Had a great time even though it had rain a lot (standing water). Greens in great shape and very responsive.
on time to tee off, course in good shape, price good for the course
course was short, but in good condition. price was good for the course. we teed off at the appointed time. overall good experience.
It has 3 power poles, not 4.
