9 hole course.
The front 9 was well put together, and pretty nice. however, the back 9 seems to have been squeezed in. It doesnt fit with the landscape and seems very forced. Nice course otherwise and will definitely play again, however I will not be spending the extra money to play the back 9.
Some tricky holes but interesting
5200 yards from blue tees are far enough in some holes. It is a par 68 because there are 3 par 5s and 7 par 3s. Some tricky holes (example 8, 14 and 16) where you need to know where to hit and how to play the hole. Weather was hot but cloudy and the company was great so it was enjoyable.
Good Value for the money
Good course, but holes are close together. GPS units were confused and had to reset all the time. Fairly easy, but some holes were confusing. Was fun to play.
Great little course
Love this place.. couple of odd holes crossed by major overhead power lines, but straight forward otherwise.
A wet warm winter has really greened the course up!
Great "practice " course
I have been playing this golf course for many years. Relaxed atmosphere. Easy to get a tee time. Fees are reasonable for afternoons or if walking. When not busy, I play two balls for extra practice. Rangers are friendly and often stop to chat or just say hello.
Great Relaxing Course
The course was in Great shape- from the north so love the fescue fairways. Staff was very nice. Great rate.
The price was right.
Being able to play a round with a cart for the price of 2 buckets at the range is this par 68 saving grace. Lots of blind shots and the gps on golf now was confused because the holes are so close together the nav signals got crossed. Maybe it will get better as spring fills in this cow pasture with plush grass and the greens are situated and rolled with sand. I will try it again in a month and will skip hole 14. I don't get along with power poles and lines in the middle of a golf hole.
Fun Practice Course
Lake Junaluska is a relatively short course with few sand traps, but small greens and lots of woods. It is a great course for practicing you short game, especially accuracy. It has some interesting holes, including 14 with power poles in the middle of the fairway. 16 offers a real change to test you accuracy off the tee. It is about 285 yards with a narrow fairway with woods on both side and vertical drop of over 200 feet.
Poor layout, unkempt grounds
This course is in a pretty area, but the fairways are in terrible shape. The layout is very awkward, with a few strange holes as well. I don't think we will be back.
Worth $15.50
Lake J golf course is what it is, year after year. It's the least expensive course in the area by a great margin, but it is also not of the same quality. Lake J is owned by the Methodist Convention. They do not sell or allow alcohol on the course, and they don't open until 1:00 on Sundays. The greens are the best part of the course, but the fairways and tees are lacking in comparison to most courses. I believe it is because of a lack of funding from the methodist convention. Lake J has some pretty easy holes, but also some very difficult ones like # 7, 10 & 17. If you don't get hung up on the conditioning, it's a cheap, fun course
Rough all around. Nice greens.
They should be slightly embarrassed to charge people actual money to play when the course is in the condition it is. Some latitude should be given for near-drought conditions, but Wow!, it was in really bad shape. Fairways were like rocks and nearly impossible to find any grass. The good news about the fairways is that they were better than the tee boxes. Mary a blade of grass to be found. Greens, although slow, were very good. Speaking of slow - how about 3 hours for 9 holes? Ouch. The best part of the day was the beautiful weather, and I wasn't in a hurry.
Bottleneck
I expected that playing on Labor Day would be busy, but this course was seriously overbooked with a mix of walkers and carts. The pace of play for the front was average for this mix at 2 hours, but the back nine took an hour to play 10-12 before coming to a complete stop at 13 with five groups standing around waiting to tee off.
Despite having a "course ranger" who checked us off at the first hole, he was nowhere to be seen to get things back on track. We left to salvage what was left of the holiday.
Lake Junaluska has the potential for being a good course with interesting holes and beautiful views of the lake and mountains, but we won't be back for a while.
Great value.
Great value for money. Fast play, slow greens. 16,17 kind of hokey.
Hard ground
The tee boxes need to be arreated. Difficult to stick a tee in the ground.
Great value.
Great value for any golf course.
A Frank Analysis
I have played this course several times over the past few years most recently on 7/13/16.
First, regarding the course, tee boxes have little or no grass andare firm, making it very difficult to insert tees; fairways are a weed patch, and greens are moderately good.
Secondly, the price is very reasonable; the people are very friendly and allow faster players to play through. There is hardly ever any wait to tee off. It should take no more than 3 hours from the blue tees.
Thirdly, this is a good course to use as a warmup for the area's other courses, or if you haven't played in awhile.
All in all, it is very good value for the aforementioned purposes, however, I could not recommend this course to my friends because of its overall condition.
Average Course but Good Value
Lake Junaluska is an average to easy course to play, but is a great value. The course is currently suffering from drought conditions, and the unsprinklered areas are brown. Otherwise the fairways and greens are in average condition. We got rained out after 8 holes, but enjoyed the round....it's an easy laid back track.
