Sequoyah National Golf Club
About
Nestled in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains, Sequoyah National Golf Club is surrounded by mature oak and fir trees. Owned by the Eastern Band of Cherokee, the course is routed through flowered valleys that provide a colorful complement to the surrounding mountain views. It feels peacefully secluded but it is conveniently located less than an hour from Asheville. Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed the layout. The rolling terrain guarantees a range of different elevation changes but there are also some flat holes. The golf course is a tough test, offering several forced carries over water and severe dogleg fairways. The sloped greens are no easy feat either. Proper club selection and accurate approach shots will be generously rewarded. Sequoyah National also offers an expansive practice area with a driving range and putting and chipping greens.

WOW, this is the ultimate mountain course!!
this course is made of signature holes! it's breathtaking and full of risk reward holes all around. the people working the couse are very hospitable and helpful, loved playing there!!
Candid
Love this course, make the drive from Asheville several times a year. The issues are always the same, slow play and for whatever reason the course is not treated with respect by players, meaning they don’t fix their ball marks on the greens, such a shame. My typical round here is around 4:40 hours which turns it into a 7 hour day for me with travel, views are memorable always
12 handicap
Fabulous views, but got to know where to miss. Would love to play it again after seeing the course and the layout. 71 year old and played the gold tees. Wasn’t too long, but had to strike the ball well. Next time I would move up to the silver tees. A little less carry needed off the tee to reach the fairway. Would definitely play it again!!!
Great Mountain course
Played for the first time. Fun course. Ball placement is key. Best to put the driver in the bag on several holes and use the irons on the dog leg holes. Great views on back 9. Played in 3:50. Tee boxes and fairways immaculate. Only issue for me was all the ball marks on the green. Why can’t people repair their marks. Makes it more enjoyable for everyone.
Amazing!!
I am a single-digit handicap, and this place is spectacular. I loved everything about it, including the beautiful layout! I like elevated tees, and this place has everything I dreamed about
Amazing Views
They had 2 inches of rain the previous night so it was cart path only. The views are amazing and the course set up is high handicapper friendly. There are a variety of tees for all handicaps. Elevation is a challenge on the back nine which makes it play at least 5-10 strokes more than the front nine. I want to go play it again right now.
Fix your divots on the green
Too many greens had too many divot marks. Super frustrating. Other than that. Loved the layout. Loved the course. Incredible views everywhere. Can’t wait to get back out there
Fantastic - a true gem !!
Was at McLemore and very disappointed, the guy I played with (also disappointed) told me about this course not too far away headed north, and I’m so glad I played it - it was spectacular !!!!
A must play
Elevation. Elevation. Elevation. Very challenging greens. Superb conditions. Great staff. Minimal food and beverages. If you’re in the area or anywhere within 90min, put it in your list. You will it be disappointed. Next time I come back I’m playing it twice.
This was one of the funnest courses that I have played. Great elevation changes and beautiful scenery.
One of the Best
Love this course. Played it for the first time this past NOV and got to play it again a couple of weeks ago. Impressive views. Great golf. The greens were in great condition and relatively fast. Lots of undulations and slope (mountain course). I had just come back from a week in Monterey playing the heavy hitters and this course is just as majestic in it's views. Not many flat lies to be found but an extremely fun course. Brave shots executed well are rewarded but if not, you are most likely in trouble and looking at a double easy.
Love this course and can't wait to get back to play.
A must play gem
This is definitely the best course in North Carolina in my opinion. Perfect conditions, unbelievable layout. Beautiful views of the mountains all around with true dramatic elevation changes on most holes. I live 11 hours away in Florida, but I will be back up in fall to play it again!
Off-Course Amenities
This course needs the following changes.
1. Restaurant (food and service)
2. Practice area (short and long game)
3. Bigger parking lot
4. Better set up in pro-shop
5. Provide at least two bottles of water and towel
6. Locker room for shower
Great Course, Terrible Pace of Play
This is the second time I traveled to play at this course, separated by several years. Both times we played, the round took over six hours to complete. Every group we saw both ahead of us and behind us waited extensively on every shot. For us, it was a 3-5 minute wait on every tee and fairway shot across the entire 18 holes. Several groups ahead of us and behind us abandoned their rounds because they had another activity they had scheduled following their round.
I love the layout and condition of the course, It is very fun and challenging, but playable for most golfers. Some forced carries for women, however, are extremely difficult, but worth taking a shot. But the brutal pace of play completely overwhelms all of the good qualities of the course.
The lack of sufficient restrooms and food service on the course is extremely problematic for women and elderly golfers, in particular.
Pleasure to play the course again.
Only setback - pin on 15 was a joke.
