Seneca A -Front Nine
The front nine of Seneca A has been redesigned and upgrade. New bunkers and greens, along with upgrades to the turf conditions. The course is fun to play and extremely playable. There are a lot of rolling mounds and hollows. The second half of the course is really long, several 450+ yard par 4s fron the back tees and a great 605 yard par 5 eighth hole.
The staff is friendly for the most part, it is about average for the other metropark courses. They have always gotten me out on a nine with minimal play and I have never had a horribly slow round.
It is a 36 hole complex, the front of the A course is the only completed course, and the next one is planned to open Oct. 2017. It looks nice as well.
The back nine is very different, the design and conditions are not good at all. If you are able to play one nine, A Course front is the only option.
Dog Track
My buddy and I have been play8ng a different course in northeast Ohio once a week for 2 years.. this is definately the worst one we have ever played.. The layout is simple and boring, but the major problem was the condition of the grass, or lack thereof.. they don't water anything, the tee boxes were trash, they hasn't even been cleaned up from hundreds of broken tees, fairways terrible..i mean we could believe it :/
Great coarse
Had a lot of fun playing here. Staff was helpful and friendly, coarse was in good condition as well as a variety of coarse layouts. Enjoy golfing here and will be back .
Nice 9 at Senace
Great staff, starter keeps things moveing . Front of A is nicer than B course. B plays faster and is in great shape now!!
Course B - Dried Out in mid August
Seneca is a being transformed in to a 27 hole complex from 36 relatively boring holes. The Cleveland Metroparks have taken over and are updating one nine at a time. One nine, the front nine of Course A, is completed and open for play. The front of Course B is scheduled to open in October 2017. The newly renovated courses look great and the I am very much looking forward to the hole project being completed.
But Course B is not up completed yet, and leaves a lot to be desired. It is fairly boring, not a lot of challenges. Very little water and bunkering, and even then it is easily avoided. The basic bones of the course seem good, but still lacking. I often take my kids here, wide open and little trouble is good. The course has family tees and caters to families.
The conditions were what you could expect during a dry spell like we have had this summer, firm and fast. Lots of brown and some burn out areas. This is fine with me, I like getting to play in different conditions. Plus it makes the four long holes easier with the extra roll. But I understand that it will visually put some people off.
Course A - Back Nine Review
This was my first time playing this course. I played at 11 in the morning with my two kids, ages 6 and 4 (they play very fast, if the course is open we play in 1.5 hours max). We actually played the back nine of the A Course. We caught up to the group in front of us on hole 3 and waited on them for the rest of the day. We finished at 2:15 minutes, but the group in front of us was probably close to three hour pace for 9.
It has been dry in my area of Northeast Ohio and clearly at Seneca too. The fairways, tees, and even the greens were all very hard and had lots of bounce and roll. I did not notice the bare spots in the grass other mentioned, and I see a lot of the course with the kids. The greens rolled okay, they were not bad, just about what you would expect for a muni of this level.
The design is okay, I know they are making a lot changes. On this nine, I think they could make the fairways a lot wider and more playable, giving all levels of players more options. It seemed like the fairways were really narrow, but without a purpose except to have narrow fairways. The rough between the trees and fairways was wider than fairways.
I hope they keep making updates and improvements, if they do what they have done to other metropark courses are Seneca has a good future. In its current form, its not for everyone.
Pace of play was good and staffs are very kind but the fairways are to be maintained as soon as possible.
actually, there are lots of spot that didn't covered by grass in the fairways.
Very Nice
This course is not perfect yet, but it will be a gem. Renovations on the front 9 were awesome. Greens were nice and the back was super tight. The rough is rough like others have stated, but this is part of golf. You need to be a good ball striker. As a mid-handicapper I enjoyed my round. I would recommend this course to a friend or family member. Pace of play was a little on the slow side but that was because we started mid-morning. No real complaints from me.
Great day at Senace
The Pro Shop is excellent. Fast courteous service. Matt comes out to help if the line is more that 3. Starters are always at the carts/hut with scorecards. They take time to keep the three 9s/moving. The new 9 holes with family tee's help us keep up and included my 11 year old grandson. A real club/family atmosphere. The is water on the course and a refreshment cart driving on the course. Nice to see reasonable prices. If you have not been out at Seneca for a few years you will not believe the improvements. Soon to be the best overall experience in the MetroPark Courses
Trending upward
Outstanding value for the price. The efforts they are making with the improvements are already showing. Not ready to take my out of town guests there quite yet but have had good experiences here the last 3 times out. Also was perfect for bringing my 7 year old with on a Friday evening.
Carts
Mother Nature's fault that c urse suffered from heavy rains. Management should not have allowed carts. There is no csrtpath so future golfers will suffer from damage.
Marginal at best
The course layout was the only favorable aspect about Seneca. Easy greens, great set ups and approach shots. The conditions were the poorest I've seen. Unless they are rebuilding, which I believe they are, the conditions will need to improve for me to return. For the value, it was marginal at best.
