Chardon Lakes Golf Course
About
Chardon Lakes Golf Course opened as a nine-hole course in 1931. The original layout was designed by Bert Way, the same creative mind behind two of the popular golf courses in Ohio: Firestone North in Akron and Mayfield C.C. in Lyndhurst. The second nine was added in 1963. The golf course has a traditional layout with challenges that have withstood the test of the time. It has hosted several qualifiers for the Cleveland Open, most recently in 2001. Many famous players have tested their luck on the golf course, including Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, whose score of 67 from the back tees is still the course record. Mature trees line Chardon Lakes Golf Course's fairways and there are more than 40 bunkers strategically placed along the large, undulating greens. There are also water hazards on 11 holes.

the course was in great condittion and fun to play
I would recommend this course to everyone. It is a really nice place to play.
Nice course, a bit pricey
I enjoyed playing Chardon Lakes, but if you get frustrated easily this isn't the course for you. The greens are fast and challenging and there are a lot of tight landing areas. It was also a little bit on the pricey side. It was $50 for a round, which felt a little bit high. In fairness, the course was very well maintained (with the exception of a couple of sand traps), so that could account for the price. The staff was friendly and the pace was quick. I always love playing courses in Chardon, because they're beautifully cut into the woods, not surrounded by streets and houses. I'll probably play this course again, but it's not my first choice as a fairly new golfer. I usually shoot in the low-mid 90s, I shot a 97 here and took the liberty of one mulligan (I never use mulligans or breakfast balls, so this was different for me). If you're an above average or excellent golfer, check this course out. I think it's geared more towards you.
Wish the fairways were cut a little shorter.
We were able to tee off earlier and finished in a reasonable amount of time. Greens were consistent. Need to get the fairways a little lower. Had a great time
Course in great shape.
Played Chardon Lakes on 5/10/13. Got a fantastic deal on Golf Now. The course was in fantastic shape. The rough was thick and high which made for tough scoring. CL has a lot of tight holes so accuracy off the tee is essential. The staff was great.
Beautiful course, in great condition.
One of the prettiest courses in Northeast Ohio. In great condition. Very friendly staff. Unfortunately, we got rained out so did not get to finish. Will definitely golf there again.
Great shape.
The course is in very nice shape and the staff is great. The drainage is slow, though, and it was cart paths only even though it hadn't rained in over 24 hours. So call ahead for the cart rules if you have trouble walking. You may be surprised that it is cart paths only on the same day other courses have no restrictions. The greens are very challenging on this course. Nearly never a straight putt. Even though the greens are showing some discoloration, the surface is good. Overall, great course and a good value.
Course was in GREAT for this time of the year
Not many people play this time of the year so pace was under my control. The green had healed well and fairways very green without leaves.
Chardon lakes is a great course for challenge and value
My golfing buddies had a fantactic day at Chardon lakes!! The staff was courtiouse and helpfull, the course was in great condition, weather was perfect for fall golf in Ohio.
This course is absolutely gorgeous
The course was in great shape! The customer service was second to none! Met one of the owners in the parking lot who was as gracious as anyone.
The greens are in great condition but challenging
I played the course on a very windy Sunday afternoon booked thru Golf Now.
We had a great round because the course was well cleared of leaves and other tree debris. The greens are very good and true, however, you need to stay below the hole on most of them because a downhill putt stroked too hard can lead to an 8 on a par 4.
"Local course", but first visit.
Very good shape although "cart paths" on some holes. It plays a little tight so a variety of shots needed. I play it down in the rough and it is dense. Very nice greens.
Played behind some SLOW players. Great course though!
Great challenging course. Stuck behind the Sunday morning group. SLOW!! Plus the group in front of me would not even rake the traps!!
great course
its the best. i had a guess from la out to your course he was very impressed with the course set-up
Still a nice course!
Love to come out here during the Fall. Beautiful scenery!! The course was a bit rough due to this Summer's heat. Greens were pretty true and moderately paced: perhaps an 8 on the stimp. Pretty well maintained. Many of the holes are sort of blah, but some are really cool! #3 is a real shotmaker's challenge. Others seem to be an afterthought. In general, a decent course, but, if you're not on Golf Now discounts, a bit pricey for what it is.
Well Manicured Course
First time I played this course. Very challenging as you get to use all the clubs in your bag. Fairways and greens were in great condition. A few holes you need to be in the fairway as left or right will put you in trouble. Recommended for mid to low handicappers. Beginners will be in for a long day. Now that I know the layout, looking forward to the next round at this course.
Good course. Strange experience.
We arrived 20 minutes prior to tee time, watched two groups of three tee off, figured we were next. Suddenly, two groups zoomed off of 18 to tee up on one. Came to find out from the starter these groups arrived late for their morning tee time and the course sent them to the fourth hole to jump in once they did arrive. The late arrivers were then allowed to make up the three holes they missed. Never heard of that before. Made for a brutally long front nine.
Otherwise, the course is nice. Good challenge. Greens are super speedy with LOTS of back-to-front slope on the front nine. More gentle breaks on the back. With tees back, the par 3s can play long.
The challenge is fair!
Chardon Lakes offers some relly good opportunities to post some great scores however, even the easier holes have potential to derail a good round if you do not think through your shots. Play number 6 from the elevated tee and take one extra club on 14. Hit em well!!!
death march
On weekend afternoons Chardon lakes is way over booked and the pace of play is a death march. The last two times I have played there the pace of play is over 5 hours for 18 holes with 3-4 groups on a hole at a time. They have no rangers on the course and I have given up playing there on weekends.
Course was in excellent condition!
One of my favorite courses. Greens were fast and true.
