Nice design, but not well maintained
I had not played Fowler's, but had heard good things. On arrival we were greeted by the staff. Very friendly. the starter told us we were in for a treat, and about to play what he considered was the best public course in Ohio (I mentioned the folks at Longaberger might dispute that). He also noted that they wanted play at 4 to 4 1/2 hours. While the Dye design was good, the course had obviously been let go. Many bare spots, burned out spots, etc. Clearly not on par with best public courses in Ohio (an opinion shared by my entire group). The pace of play didn't live up to expectations either. We waited on every shot. Took over 5 hours to finish the round. No rangers in sight to enforce quick play. While we got a good deal on GolfNow, had we played in the morning the round would have cost $69. The course was not worth that value. We played The Quarry earlier the same day for $39 which included GPS carts, and was a far better experience (better condition and a 3 1/2 hour round). I will not return to Fowler's.
Classic Pete Dye
Course is very tough, but fair. Plenty of risk/reward decisions to make. They added a "combo" tee to scorecard since I was last here, which played at 6350 yrds, that was perfect. Food was great, service great, starter was pleasant and helpful. I can't think of anything negative to say, this is a first class facility.
Hi "hoticeref" Thanks for the Excellent review, so glad you enjoyed the course today. We really appreciate the kind remarks on our course and staff, cant wait to see you back on the course soon!
6 hour round.
The course started an outing @ 12pm.
The last group left the course @ 6pm.
We teed off at 2:50 and were on #8 @ 5:45.
We waited 14 minutes on # 6 tee. It took
30 minutes to play that hole.
The event was mismanaged at best.
Causing a terrible experience for all of the
other golfers who followed.
I will compliment the staff on how they
handled the numerous complaints.
Hi "u000002210157" Thank you for your honest review. We did have a modified shotgun on this particular morning. With the tournament running over the allotted time we had many guests that were being held up. We did our best to accommodate all golfers. Your tee time that you booked online was a prepaid time, and we asked that you call Golfnow for a refund. We hope that this particular day will not defer you from playing Fowlers Mill Golf Course. If you could please email me at fowlersmillgcmgt@outlook.com we would love to rectify the situation.
My Top Five
Everyone should play this course once and it will be one you will be a must play every year. Great fairways and greens and no two holes play the same. I've played this course many times and will continue every year.
Great Course, slow play
Got stuck behind an outing that was running late, and got a hot deal so I can't be too upset about the 5:15 round. Great course, but steep standard rates.
Hi "townendisgod" Thanks for the review, we have taken your comments into consideration and will look into rates and pace of play. We are glad you enjoyed your round with us. Hope to see you back on the course soon!
Fowlers
The course is in great shape but the pace of play was slowed by a foursome not utilizing ready golf.
Hi "ff1crabby" Thank you for the review! We are sorry you were held up by a foursome on this particular day. Please come back and visit us again!
Starter - ranger
great course, one of the best in NE Ohio - pace of play today was bad (5 hr) - need Starter to recommend green tees(6200 yds) to MOST players - will facillitate faster play + more fun... black 6600 yds too hard & slow for 10+ handicap...
Hi "astarrett20" Thanks for the great review, we are glad that you enjoyed your round with us. Cant wait to see you back out on the course soon!
Going downhill
We have been playing Fowler's Mill for years. It is one of my favorite layouts in the area and has traditionally been very well maintained. Things were a little different this time around. The course was still in very good shape - just not great like it used to be. The big thing was the pace of play. We used the rain as an excuse to get a rain check since it took us nearly 2 hours to play 6 holes. We waited 10 minutes+ pretty regularly. The staff just seemed less organized than they previously have been and the pace showed. We saw one ranger who simply said "its slow" as he passed us.
I hope that they can get this place back to the top notch facility it has always been. Maybe we just hit it on a bad day...
Played this course for years...
... so I know it quite well. It is a very well designed (Pete Dye) course and so the hole layouts are quite varied and interesting. At the regular rates, it is a good value but I got a great rate from GolfNow and so this time it was also a bargain. Course was in great shape... I can't think of anything to complain about the conditions.
Great course
Finally got to play the course after a few years of buddies telling me how great the course was. They were absolutely right! Other than the cold weather, the course and staff were great. It is a challenging course, but if you play smart off the tee it is a very playable course. Definitely make the trip to play Fowlers Mill.
Good value!
I love playing Fowler's Mill! The course was in great shape for being so early in the season! The rough made for an interesting challenge.
Fowler"s Mill
It was very wet so cart path only the day i played. Made the course play long and slowed the greens down quite a bit. Some signature Pete Dye features including split fairways and extreme risk/reward opportunities. One of the most challenging public courses in the area.
Fowlers mill
Was a hot day, the rough was a little long. It Is always a pleasure to play followers mill, public course with a country club feel.
Lake / Maple
Course in nice shape, although they did just aerate the greens, and still some cleaning up that needs to be done from all the trees they took down. Awesome hotdogs at the grill.
Challenging but Beautiful Course
This was my 1st time playing at Fowlers Mill and will not be my last. Just a beautiful place from the minute we pulled in. Staff was extremely helpful and nice. The course is just opening for the season and was already very very nice. Can only imagine how nice it'll be in a couple months. It is definitely a pretty challenging course with layout and where the greens are but very fun. Had a great time there and will be back sometime soon for sure.
SAVE YOUR MONEY!
This course was not ready for play. The rough was was too wet to play from. Most sand traps had not been raked. The greens were subpar. It took us more than 5 hours to play due to some sort of 5some in front of us and there appeared to be lessons being given.. Lucky for me the weather was great and the company in my group made it an enjoyable experience but I will not be back.
27 holes at this course
Fowlers Mill has 27 holes: 18 designed by Pete Dye (the River and Lake nines), and 9 ho hum boring holes across the street (Maple nine). When I played the Lake nine was closed as a bunch of trees were being removed, so we played the River and Maple nines, which was disappointing. Overall the course was in OK shape, not great, but understandable given how early in the season this round was. Greens were very slow and quite bumpy. Would like to return later in the summer to see the Lake nine as well as hopefully faster/smoother greens.
A lil rough this time of year
Had a good time overall. But course was soggy. One of the 3 nines was actually closed down due to conditions. The best of the 3 in my opinion. Didn't eat here So can't review the food. Would definitely play again on a dry day long as I have a hot deal.
Great course
Good course for all levels of play.would recommend to play
Thank you for your comment, we appreciate feedback from all of our customers. We are pleased you were able to play Fowler’s Mill for the first time and we hope you had an overall enjoyable experience. I am sorry to hear you were not completely satisfied with the conditions of the course. We have had a fairly dry summer that has caused some parts of our golf course to have some thin areas of turf. I can ensure you our maintenance staff is aware of the situation and they are working hard to provide nutrients and water to the areas of our facility that need specific attention. Thank you again for visiting Fowler’s Mill, we hope to see you very soon.
