Mansion Ridge July 2017
First time playing this course. Fee included the practice range which also has a chipping area. The course was in excellent condition. This Nicholas course is a balance of distance and knowing where to place the ball. Hole 9 is a par 5 and #1 handicap that will be my reason to come back and play this course again!
challenging course, well conditioned, approx 5hr round
MR is a tough course. if you can't break 90's consistently you'll be in for a long day. well contoured greens here can be difficult and fast. holes are usually not abutted by another hole so there will be trouble left and right. helps a lot to know the course so you can aim correctly and understand the spots to hit into. many fairways can be undulated.. so even being on the fairway can leave you with a tough downhill or sidehill lie. some greens were mottled on 6/9 when i went out. wasnt a huge issue but kind of surprised on a few greens i noticed them on. pace of play is usually slow, like 5hrs. we got lucky with an outing and we were the first ones out. clear sailing all the way so we finished in under 4.5hrs. it's a very pretty course with many elevation changes. compares to patriot hills which i put in the same category. somewhat better value tho it is a good 20mins farther from the tappan zee.
I enjoyed the course the layout was great the only issue I had was that some of the greens still looked like they needed some work also while the fairways were nice you could see that they had a lot of play due to the amount of divots I saw.
A pleasant suprise
I had read a few nightmare reviews regarding the pace of play this year(over 6 hours). We had a 2:09 time on Sat. The staff was very friendly and we actually got out a few minutes early., and finished in 4 1/2 hours. The greens could use some work, but otherwise I thought the course was in good shape and quite challenging from the tips
Swamp land
This place is a joke. Pace of play was horrible. Rangers on this day did nothing. Sit in one spot and watch people go by. Course management is the worst. All about making money not providing a good experience. Too bad . Nice course. Course is sort of free for all. Everybody on course to fend for themselves on this day anyway. Never go back. Too many other courses!
Challenging Carries
We played from the Green Tees which are supposedly one back from the whites and found that there were many forced carries where we had to go 200+ to get over the junk. I had a good driving day but still shot 85 because I couldnt putt for s%#t and my partners weren't being charitable at all!!! The guys at the front desk always seem to treat Golf Now people like second class citizens for some reason but I don't care, I feel good about being able to play such a nice course and get free practice balls to boot!
1st Time Playing-Extremely Disappointed
This was my first time playing this course and I walked away extremely disappointed. The management overbooked the course and the round took 6+ hours, no exaggeration. I called the clubhouse 3 times during the round to request a ranger and even though they claimed they were sending one out...I didn't see one the entire round. For a course that has so much potential, the lack of consideration for the guests of the course was some of the worst I've seen anywhere. I will not be going back.
Walked Off the Course After Nine Holes
This once great course has been in decline for years now. Friday's round was the topper. After 3 hours and only nine holes, I could take no more. For the first time in 30 years, I walked off a course. It began with no starter. We just asked the group in front of us what time they had. 9 minute intervals, so we figured we were next. We waited slightly on the first four tees, but nothing unusual for this course-it is never a fast round. The problems began on the 5th tee, a par 3. One group on the green and two on the tee. When we looked across to the 9th tee box there were 8 carts lined up! Every tee box after this had at least two groups waiting. Apparently they filled every tee sheet time and had an out of control outing on the course. NOTE: This is not a course suitable for outings with hackers. #7 and #9 will destroy them. And to management: If you have outings: 1. Notify other golfers. 2. Add rangers 3. Require them to play forward tees. 4. Place spotters on 7 & 9. 5. Don't fill times anywhere close to the last outing group.
My group and others (remember we spent a LOT of time on the tees with others) called to the clubhouse several times and politely were told they were on it. Not once did we ever see a ranger. To make matters worse, no beverage cart in sight to possibly dull the pain and no water on the course. There wasn't even water in the ball washers! Everyone in my group agreed - the worst golf experience of their lives. And we all agreed that we have given Mansion Ridge enough chances and would not be back (several of my regular group wouldn't even give it a 2nd, 3rd, 4th chance we were giving it Friday).
The course itself wasn't in terrible shape for mid-April. The greens were still recovering from aeration, but rolled pretty true. The bunkers had newer sand and rakes (much improved from last time we played). I've played this course dozens of times. The layout is great. It has fun and interesting holes. It is challenging, but you can score if you play well and smart. Just please choose the proper tees for your skill level. And I would warn you not to have any other plans if you play on a holiday or weekend.
We keep coming back to the course with the hope that Troon will "get it", it is such a good Nicklaus track. Your can't correct a poorly designed course without a bulldozer, but the problems with Mansion Ridge are solvable. Management owes it to a great course, Mr. Nicklaus and hundreds of fans who have played the course when it was special.
If I ever make it back, it might be because of amnesia and I'll probably be a single - my buddies have longer memories that me.
Jack woulld be dissapointed
Yes, when its a Holiday weekend and nice weather courses are going to be busy but a six hour round, please! Apparently management is trying to make money by jamming groups five minutes apart without course management.
I apologize for the poor experience. Please contact me at (845) 782-7888 so that we can attempt to make this right. Despite having 9 minute tee times and rangers on the golf course some of the rounds this day were negatively impacted and I do apologize.
6 Hour Round
Title says it all, 6 hours for a round is ridiculous and at several points there were 4 foursomes waiting to tee off and two other foursomes playing the hole. Other players who have played here before said this is a common occurence due to 7 minute tee times and not altering times even with outings going on. Course conditions were average, however the nicklaus designed course is amazing and is very technical. Would return only for cheap hot deals on off days.
I apologize your less than ideal for experience. While our tee sheet is currently spaced a 9 minute intervals the large volume of play we received on the holiday did add to the time it took to complete a round. Please feel free to contact me at (845) 782-7888 at your leisure so that we can make this right.
Close to 6 hour round
I love this course and the layout!
Unfortunately, I had a 10:30 tee time and didn't get off the course until almost 4 pm.
Just unforgivable. Won't EVER go back on a weekend!
I'm sorry to hear this. This is not our intended experience. Please feel free to contact me at (845) 782-7888 so that we can discuss your experience and make this right.

Thank you for your response. If you could please dial the 845-782-7888 number and select prompt #7 I would be more than happy to address the situation. If I do not answer please leave a message with your contact information and I will return your call ASAP. Thank you!
Called the number provided below and it's simply the main course number. This does nothing to make the situation better.
I apologize for the poor experience. As you can see from the other comments from 4/14/2017 pace of play was an issue this day and is not something hung we take lightly. Please contact me a (845) 782-7888 so that we can make this right. Also please know that our rangering involves identifying slow play and staying with the slow play until they get caught up.
