Excellent overall experience

Golf course in excellent overall condition, and a great design/layout. Played in just under 4 1/2 hours on a Friday morning. We were a foursome, and actually were asked once by the ranger early on to pick it up a bit (which was an appropriate request). We did, and had no one behind us or consistently holding us up from that point on. So in this way, we had a very different (and much more positive) experience than others in terms of pace of play and appropriate assertiveness by rangers than other reviewers seem to have had. I realize that this may have been because it was a weekday morning, but it is still worth noting that the experience could be different here during the week. Greens fee through Golf Now was $78, which I thought was a great deal given quality of the course and course conditions. I live in lower Westchester NY and have paid close to this price elsewhere in the greater NYC area to get much, much less. This was probably the closest I've come so far in the greater NYC area to getting a "country club" experience in a public golf course. Near country-club level practice facilities as well, with range (irons-only, admittedly), pitching/bunker practice area, and separate putting green, all excellently maintained. Also went off precisely on time. Hard to find a negative aspect of the experience to critique.

its ok

course is very good. nice layout and challenging

Greens were in mediocre shape.

The facilities are very disturbing. The bathroom is filthy with a horrendous stench. The pre-made halfway house cheese burgers were inedible. The on-course food cart is baren

Slowed to a crawl after 6 holes.

Mansion Ridge is a very nice track with enough challenges for everyone. It was my first time playing, which is always challenging. There were unfortunately no hole diagrams so as a longer hitter I found some trouble that I didn't realize was there. The greens rolled very smooth and were quite fast. I would definitely play again with some more course knowledge.

Pace of Play Unbearable

Great layout and very challenging requiring precision shot making. Greens excellent running quick and true. Fairways a little beaten up from lots of play and golfers not replacing divots or using sand. Pace of play is what ruined the round. Five and 1/4 hours is unacceptable. Group ahead was hitting multiple balls off tee. We would wait for green to clear, hit up and putt out and get to the next tee and they hadn't finished teeing off. Ranger was useless and just shrugged like there was nothing he could do. Too bad. Would love to play course regularly but not worth the aggravation.

great course, very slow play

Golf course is in great condition, greens are true and fast, unfortunately not a ranger in site to keep pace of play moving, consequently a 5 hour round!?

CONSISTENTLY WORST PACE OF PLAY > 5 HR ROUNDS. SAD, as course is great

This amazing layout is destroyed by pathetic pace of play. Golf should be played with carts in 4hrs 15 mins max or less. There are no rangers and we were waiting at times for 3 groups on one hole (on the TEE BOX!). This round pace is unacceptable and Troon has done nothing to repair it. It is UNPLAYABLE unless I have nothing to do the whole day. It is sad, because it is a true gem of a layout and challenge. I love the design and the conditioning is pretty darn good. Slow golfers MUST be monitored for pace of play. It is not enjoyable to wait on every shot and then get to the next tee to see 2-3 groups lined up.

If pace of play was even fair, this course would be 5 stars...

Improve pace of play to a respectable 4hr 15min pace and I will come back regularly

Try elsewhere

Aerated greens , terrible bunkers and the fairways are in bad shape. Divots everywhere and it does not seem to be watered ever. Im suprised that Troon golf allows the course to get like this.

I love Mansion Ridge, but not what I expected...

I've played at Mansion Ridge a number of times but this time I was shocked and saddened by the poor condition of the bunkers and the fairways. It's early in the season and I didn't expect the course to be in great condition. For example, the greens being punched (aerated) was expected since the price we paid was low - $58 riding on a Sunday. But the bunkers were terrible; some were washed out by rain, no rakes anywhere - not one, and even saw some uncovered piping in a bunker on the par 5 7th hole. Not sure how or why they were like that but I really do hope they can be repaired as I really enjoy the scenery and the course layout. The fairways were also in rough shape with uncovered divots everywhere. I know the season is young, but I've played on NYC muni's with better fairways and bunkers this time of year. It's a shame, but I wouldn't recommend this course to a friend right now. Other than that, the staff and facilities are great, no complaints at all about them. I hope that when I do go back there (and I will) these issues have been addressed and the Mansion Ridge I know and love is back in all its glory.

The Sad Demise

Staff is friendly since Troon took over (that's an improvement). However every other aspect is much worse. The greens were aerated and very bumpy, not small holes as indicated on website. Pace of play - HORRENDOUS. We waited on EVERY hole, tee shots and approaches. Sometimes up to 12 minutes. Not a single bunker on the course had a rake or had been maintained. Sand was hard and bare in many. Edging and overall maintenance of green complexes not up to par. This is still a great layout. It is not for the short hitter or beginner golfer. Holes 6 - 9 are still a great stretch. # 8 is a great driving hole from an elevated tee and # 9 still might be the toughest par 5 in the Met Area. On the back # 12 is still a great par 3 and # 14 a real challenging long par 4 with another long forced carry off the tee. # 18 is a great finishing hole if you match is tied, with a tough drive and a long downhill 2nd to a green guarded by water. Overall a sad demise to a once great course and experience. However, with some investment and maintenance, this once great Jack Nicklaus Signature course could be revived.

Favorite Course

My only wish would be that the pace be a little better... Other then that the course is pristine and brilliantly designed! I only caution those who can't drive very far that their are a lot of 175-200 yard carries off the tees in numerous holes... For the price, layout, conditioning... It's by far my favorite course around the lower Hudson valley!!!

Good value

Short term challenging with good variety. No.9 and no.18 is especially challenging. The course does not drain well, wet and soggy after the rain and bunkers were rock hard.
Greens were aerated, so somewhat inconsistent.. Would come back to play
