Fun day
Finally got to play outside and had a nice time. Course was in good condition with the only drawback was greens had just been airated.but other than that there in great condition.
January. Golf in Hudson Valley?
Wow! Cabin fever?? Here is your chance to play a premium course in not so prime weather . $45 pp with cart shotgun?? Yes Yes Yes
This place beat me up
The course is extremely challenging, not to mention I played on a wet and windy day. This place just destroyed me, as im sure it does to a lot of people. When I went to look for my balls in the tall grass, I literally found several before my own. Mansion is definitely a place for straight hitters and very unforgiving. Objectively its a great course with very unique holes. Staff was great and course was in great shape.
Excellent layout and views.
Excellent course layout. Challenging but fair. Could use a starter. Pretty much on your own for t-times on 1st tee. Courtesy of golfers prevails. Some t boxes are worn. Greens were bumpy and sandy from aeration. Golfers need to fill in divots on fairways. But, overall a nice course at a reasonable rate and worth a trip. It is end of year so course has to be a little beat up.
Mansion Ridge A Nice Layout
Challenging but Fair Course. Many interesting Holes, you use every club in your bag.
Greens were in great condition and the rough could hurt you. Always find this course in great shape.
Mr
None at this time thank you
11/7 - sunny round
Beautiful course and great layout ...
However, Greens recently aerated... and pace of play on back 9 was very slow / over 2.5 hrs... this is often the case ... patience ugh!
Not a right time
The staffs are not so friendly then other courses. The greens are under the repair and can't enjoy a putting. The bunkers are never maintained and look like a hard bare ground.
Challenging course in a beautiful setting.
This course presents with many interesting and challenging holes. The layout was well-designed and the staff extremely helpful. We spent a beautiful Saturday afternoon at this great course. We will be back:)
fantastic course! slow!!
we did 12 holes in 4 hours, and left, haha!
great course, and well maintained.
nice track nasty starter
extremely slow play with no rangers on the course to keep pace at all. Starter was a nasty old man who needs to be replaced.
Awful Staff/Management--kicked off course due to their error
I booked a round online (as did 3 other single, for the same time). We arrived right as a shotgun outing was teeing off. The course sent us out anyway...we got through 12 holes in literally 4 hours. Then a women's night league came out to the back 9 and told us we needed to get off the course. We found a ranger (Mike, who's also the assistant pro), who then told us we should not have been able to book our tee time in the first place and that the website made a mistake.
This is curious because the websites only offer times made available by the course. In addition, I booked 3 days ahead of time--the course could have called that morning to explain and apologize, but didn't. He made no effort to allow us (now down to a twosome) to play on, but instead told us to follow him off the course. He could not have been less apologetic, and placed the blame solely on the website--he almost made it sound like our fault for booking. He begrudgingly gave us a "rain check," which only replaces a round I've already paid for, but does nothing for the major inconvenience, rudeness, and complete waste of a day (again, 12 holes in 4 hours). I could have played elsewhere had we been informed, but that would have taken some effort from the staff, which is asking too much.
The staff is generally unfriendly here but this time was almost impressive in how inept and unconcerned they were for their customers. Which sucks, because it's a nice course and generally in decent shape. But you can find other similarly nice courses in the area in the same price range with a friendlier and more competent staff. I encourage you to do so.
Beautiful but slow
The course was in good condition except for many unfilled divots. I have to say the course is challenging but fair on most holes. However, the number one handicap is a true Bear. The layout was very scenic and beautiful. The one big knock is that the play was very slow. Our round took over 5 hours. I believe there were quite a few golfers playing from tee boxes beyond their games. It would have been much more enjoyable round if this were well monitor by ranger.
Good
Green and fairway are really nice!
Could be so much better!
The course layout is fantastic. It's not terribly long, but the sight lines, and rolling fairways are very challenging.
The course is open all year, and very heavily played. The course super is a really nice, very sharp guy who knows his business. His challenges are a clientele who does not take care of the course ( the greens are filled with ball marks, fairway divots not replaced), and the volume of players, coupled with the shortage of manpower make keeping up tough. I will say that given the challenges the greens keeping crew faces they do an excellent job. Management could help this crew out if they gave them more resources (people, better equipment) to work with to keep the course in tip-top shape. It's worth saying again, this greens keeping crew works their tails off and they do a great job. There is no visible attempts by the course management to promote care of the course by the members of public which is a huge detriment given the extremely high volume of golfers..
The operations staff - Head and assit. pros, golf shop staff, bag attendants and starters - are a terrific bunch. You get a warm greeting every time you arrive. They could use more support from management, in the form of more help, and more training to help them get the job done. It's impossible for the number of people they have working to keep up with demand. Sadly, management of the club doesn't see this as important.
The course is a revenue driven club, which makes it hard to understand why they don't invest a larger on-course presence of rangers. It is not uncommon to be on the course for nearly 6 hours on a weekend.
Mansion Ridge could be one of the best courses in the area if they had a general manager who was more in tune with the clientele. The current GM is happier in his office then out communicating with his guests. In fact the guy is one of the problems at the club. I had only a couple of run-ins with him and he was condescending, disrespectful, and uninformed. It's beyond me why Troon, who I have been a fan of for a while, would hire someone for this great club who is not a pragmatic, people person.
I hope Troon makes four simple changes to make this club great again.
1. Better support for their outstanding greens keeping team.
2. A larger, more aggressive ranger program on the course to move the pace along and enforce better care of the course.
3. More staff and resources for the front of house operations so they don't have to kill themselves trying to get the job done..
4. A GM who is a relationship builder both in the club and with the public.
If Troon does these four simple things Mansion Ridge will be the only place to play in the region.
My favorite public course
I'm happy to drive an hour to play here. It looks like a country club, but is open to the public. The conditions are always great and the pace is decent (4.5 hours). Plenty of water, sand and trees to challenge you, but not so difficult where you won't want to come back. Bar and grille was also very nice afterwards.
Solid track
This course is in great shape. My only complaint is the sand, very thin and not a good texture. Beyond that the course is great. Greens are smooth and quick and fairways are like velvet. The layout is not my favorite but that's a personal preference. Tough carries for average golfers.
Fantastic course
I've recently discovered this course and it's been my go-to course in the area. Love it. Fairway and greens are in good condition and the thing I like the best about this course is the layout. It's really fun and I get to use most of the clubs in the bag.

that sucks, but how was the course? Giving the course a 1 star because of the clubhouse doesnt really help people who are looking for reviews on the course.
