Very challenging for a semi-public course
Mansion Ridge is a very challenging course that matches up well against private tracks. The staff was friendly and business-like. Pace of play was a little slow with a 9:20 AM starting time.
My only complaint was that the sand traps were not good. Not enough sand and previous nights rain made them like wet concrete. Good value for $99.
well maintained
It was well maintained greens and bunkers. However they did not sweep out grass cutting debris, so shoes came out with bunch of grass.
Too SLOW
First let me start, the course and staff are really reasons for coming to play here. With discount , calendar card, or senior discount. MR provides an excellent value.
BUT, you knew that was coming. Played here in August , greens were just aerated, okay not too much an issue. It took over 5.5 hours to play, OVER. Okay chalked it up for a Sunday. Waited every shot. Played Columbus day (yesterday). Took 5.5 hours again. Waited every shot. It looked like everyone was in place, did not see big gaps. It just takes this long to play this course.
As much as I like the course, as much as getting a tad off , knowing the staff will treat you nicely. I cannot recommend this place duvto the excessive mount of time it takes to play. I will NOT go back until this corrected. I will not recommend this to my friends to play.
Too bad, but they have to do something about this problem.
Slow play is a problem
I have played Mansion over a dozen times in the last 4-5 years. When you spend $100 or more to play a course, the tee times should be spaced appropriately. We were rushed to the 1st tee only to sit there and wait for the group in front who by the way 2 of the guys should have been at the white tees, only to be told to tee off before they were in their carts. You can never have 4.5 hour rounds when people are up each others buts from the start. Put that aside this is a great course, fast true greens, great challenge witht the multitude of forced carries (people reading this, "play to your handicap or you will be humbled here") worth the money when the course is not getting greedy and putting players out 6 minutes apart. I will be back
not enough for the money and torturously slow!
I am a 6 handicap. This course could best be descibed as a smallish, resort type , blind shot course. Lots of slanted fairways do not reward good tee shots. It reminds me of a florida condo development course but instead of using water for difficulty the course uses blindness, and hills to created the difficulty. The worst part of it is that the course is way overpriced. I was in a threesome and we waited on every tee, and every shot. 9 holes took us 3 hours and 40 minutes! They stacked the course horribly. After nine we walked off. When I spoke to the manager his reply was "that is how long a round takes here on the weekend". I suggested to stagger the groups better he told me I was wrong and it wouldn't make a difference. I do not plan on going back
Slow Play!!
As always, a challenging and beautiful course. But, 4.75 hours is totally unacceptable for a round where you're backed up on more than half the holes and there's no ranger in sight.
This course is nice. The manager is terrible!!
This is nice course to play, however, the customer service there is absolutely terrible. The woman who identified herself as the manager has ZERO people skills. To pay $90 and receive offensive and unwelcoming treatment from the staff is not acceptable. There are comparable courses in the area with innocuous staff. You would have better experience elsewhere.
Wonderful
had a foggy day, rained a little but after that it was clear as can be and the course was beautiful. will definitely be going back, I am a poor 24 year old so this was a crazy treat for myself but I am not mad that I did.
Great Course
Only reason I played here was because of an unbeatable hot deal. The course is a real nice treat. Fairways and greens are in good shape. Would be better if players replaced divots and fixed ball marks! The pace was average for a weekday afternoon. Although, slowed down on the back nine. There was a ranger at the turn but wasn't observing pace of play. Make sure your shots on the front nine are on target because if not, errant shots will lead to a lost ball in the fescue. The par 4 finishing hole is a real treat. I would definitely play again through another hot deal. The course rates are too high for me. A must play!
Ok but not great
We were the first group off and had a good time. 2 lightning delays didnt bother us. Staff was nice but not very attentive. Should have towels ready to go when it's raining....extra scorecards in box on way to tee. $70 for 18/cart/range/ first group is pretty good even with aerated greens but course was not exciting enough to recommend. Would not pay weekend rate ever and probably will not go back.
Great course with a very nice layout only negative were the aerated greens but I understand its needed to keep the greens in great shape.
Great course for the price....no issues at all for this course
Fun once in a while
This is a nice Jack Nicklaus Signature course. There are a good mix of holes, particularly once you get past the first few holes which are kind of on top of one another. The conditions are usually decent, although the greens had been recently aerated when we played, so it made for some interesting putts. They did offer a discount for this, but golf now didnt show it on their website unfortunately.
Mansion Ridge
Fun course. Challenging. True greens !!!
A must play
course layout great
staff on this day was shorthanded. no range balls on an irons only range of 180 yards. the course it self was very interesting and well maintained. the views were great and the risk verse reward is not punitive.really enjoyed the round.
very difficult
corse is well maintained.
Very tight courese and difficult layout.
only high skilled player should go.
Great Course
Course is in great shape for the most part. Greens run true....wish more ppl fixed there marks. Tee boxes and fairway above average shape. Real good layout tough but fair. I have no problem paying full price to play here even weekend rates it's worth it.
I Love Mansion Ridge!
While reading reviews I was surprised by some of the negative comments. I play a lot of golf all over the country as well as the Metropolitan NY Area, at both Public and Private Courses. Mansion Ridge is a fantastic, challenging and fair test of golf. The greens are absolutely pure and nicer than 80% of the courses out there. The Course is well groomed but certainly not pristine. The Fairways are wide enough to be fair but severe penalties await wayward shots. Because of the landing areas for shots that are miss the fairway, it can be extremely difficult to find a wildly struck ball. Most folks will spend quite a bit of time trying which absolutely is the cause of slower than usual rounds.
My last round out I arrived at the bag drop at 6AM for a 6:36 Tee Time and ended up unloading my own Bag and Loading it on to a cart after parking and paying. To me, not a big deal, I worked at Golf Courses for many years through school and college and have done my share of loading and hauling bags. I was surprised that at a club like Mansion Ridge there was NOBODY close enough to assist in any way. If you're going to sell Tee Times that early at over $400/foursome, you should have somebody there greeting and hauling bags. Mind you, it's not much of a haul, The Bag Drop is 3 steps from the carts but a First Class Club with First Class Prices should Offer First Class Service. No big deal to me but having worked in the business at many Top Notch Courses, The Management at the finer courses would throw a fit if they ever saw a member carrying their own bag.
I will DEFINITELY return to Mansion Ridge and really wished I lived close enough to be a member. I Love The Course Design and I Love The Greens! Everything else I can deal with...
This course is not for beginners !
Poor yardage markers and need to install laser prism in the pins so you can shoot the laser gun for yardage.
Beautiful Course...
Surprisingly Slow round for an over cast and drizzly Saturday. We played in just over 5 hours with an 8:50am tee time.
I am surprised that with 2 rangers patrolling the course they did not push players to keep with a 4:30 pace.
While the course was very nice, paying $99 for a slow round, vs. paying 20%+ less than that in the afternoon is probably the way to go. We noticed in the afternoon (when the sun came out) there were fewer cars and the course seemed more open on the front (however, could have just been the day, weather, etc...)
Playable Nicklaus course
I have played a number of Nicklaus signature courses and found a number of them just to hard for the average golfer. This course does not fall in that category it is a good fair challenging golf course. The greens with fast but not overly fast they were true and unlike some Nicklaus courses they weren't crazy undulating. It is a Overpriced unless you can get a good golf now start time. I enjoyed the golf course and will come back if I can get that good GolfNow price.
