the course was fairly good condition considering the amt of rain we had...
I liked the green condition especially... fast even wet...
staffs were courteous and friendly
want to play again ^^
Windy Sunday in Janaury
Was over 50 degrees but wasn’t warm. I always like playing Glendoverr East. There are some shorter holes that are tricky. The fairways are lined with giant teees. Typical winter conditions but a beautiful day at Glendo East !
Great fall round
I played Glendoveer East on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The course was in great sheet given the fact that it had been raining fairly consistently for the two weeks prior. Only one green had a temporary and I was able to play the round in just under three hours. Overall, I thought the experience was excellent.
Quick Round
Finished this round in under four hours.
Course was in good shape.
Grew up playing on this course 40+ years ago.
Always brings back great memories of the many rounds learning how to play at this course.. Recently returned to playing here the last couple of years. Can't ever remember it being in such good condition in late summer. The last 3-4 rounds played here have seen what seem to be very tame coyotes on different areas of the course in the middle of the day.
Typical city public course
Course is just an overall reflection of SE Portland, "a dump" if you like playing on a course where no one fixes their ball marks or rakes the bunkers, men playing without shirts, cut off jean shorts than this is your course. 5 hour rounds are the norm. Greens were bumpy and over watered, fairways were like playing on a beat up football field. A hacker delight.
I play during the week so my rounds are pretty quick. I think it goes without saying that every MUNI course attracts hacks who don't care. As maddening as it is I don't grade public courses harshly for what is a given. But again I play in the non peak hours so that probably tempers my criticism.
Information
I really enjoy playing this course. But what made me really mad is the fact that I started on the front 9 of the East course and was shooting really well. Then when I got to the back 9 there was a group of about 30 that I guess was playing in a little tournament t when I got to the course. I then had to go and play the front 9 of the West and totally threw me off my game and had to sit behind two groups of 4 which made me get completely out of rhythm. And to top it off two of the group's to longer then 21 minutes a hole for 4 straight holes and they would not let me play through! I really wished they would have said something to me before I paid for my round! Other then that, I love both the East and the west!
Keeps getting better
I've been in Portland for 15 years now and play Glendoveer at least once every year. When I first got here I played with a group that played 9 holes there every Tuesday so I know the course well. A new management group took it over a few years ago and they have really raised it up. Played the East today and was very impressed. Fairways were in very good shape and the greens were good and actually soft. We've been playing some tight courses lately and really enjoyed the broad fairways and the tall fir trees actually let you find a ball that strays right or left. Looking forward to my next round there. FYI, 3 stars is as high as I go for a muni, so that's a top rating.
I like that you mentioned that you go no higher than 3 stars for a muni because I assume the rating is based on the given factors. I give 4 stars if its a decent muni because my expectations are tempered by that. I base it more on layout and ability of staff to keep it playable. Good comments.
Nice and short 18 holes
The course layout is not easy, but most of the holes are relatively short. Some up and down walk which would make some players more than expected compared to flat courses. This is a fun course and I played from Blue tee, but it seemed still shorter in overall length as I only shot driver 9 out of 18. I recommend the course for anyone who wants to have fun with playing golf, but not seriously keeping the score.
Surprisingly Challenging
I used to play this course many years ago when I lived in Portland. I am now retired and living in Palm Springs, CA and spent the past month vacationing in Portland. I was impressed by the condition and the challenge of this course. I played it three times in the month I was here.
It's relatively short from the white tees (less than 5800 yards), but the tee shots require a degree of accuracy not generally demanded from a 20+ handicap player. Lots of trees and elevated greens make this a much tougher course than the yardage on the card.
The downside: there are no marshals, and the play can be VERY SLOW at times. I am surprised that they allow golfers in flip/flops and t-shirts. That would never be permitted in the clubs I play back home.
It's a great value when you use Golf Now and get a "Hot Deal" price -- $15 plus $16 for the cart. I would be less excited to pay "retail".
Good course! Bad prices. :-(
It was (and always HAS been) a good course to play. In fact: In the past, it was our "home course". It was our "go-to" course when we couldn't decide. It was our FAVORITE course! However, the course is charging $32 for a cart! This is why I don't play there that often and why you hear all the negative hype on social media as to how "greedy" Glendoveer is when it comes to screwing over their customers. The course would be booked continuously (practically: 24/7) if they'd reduce this rate by $10). Other courses give special rates of $20-30 for 18 with cart included. We're thinkin' that Glendoveer just couldn't handle the traffic if they reduced their rates to what other courses are charging. :-(
Nice late afternoon play(starter 4:50)
The pace was ok, group in front of us was little slow and it always slow the first 5 holes as the par 3 get everyone backed up. The new bunkers were nice. Greens were ok, pretty beat up. They weren't really fast or slow. Did finish 18 but the last 2 holes we couldnt see where our ball was landing 840ish.
Glendoveer east beast
On the east the fairways just like all courses a bit wet... but the greens are lighting fast right now...
Keep the course up !!!
Great weather go food afterwards at Ringside
Convenient course in East Portland! Confidence boosting
Some said the East course was the harder of the two, I felt they were very comparable. However I preferred the west due to some elevated boxes.
I would say it's a very forgiving course w wide fairways - the season just started so the course was in good condition well cut fairways though the rough was cut down also. The greens were good considering the recent rains.so e swampy areas getting plugged; what you'd expect for the season.
It's a good relaxing place but can get pretty crowded w seniors. So pace can be slow but not horrendous.
Course very enjoyable
I found this course enjoyable, not too difficult, staff was very friendly,
Great afternoon
This was our first time on this course and we had a great afternoon. We only play a few times a year so most courses are a challenge. However, we were not pressured by staff or other players. These fairways are wide, there is very little water and we enjoyed every minute. Beautiful surroundings.
Interesting Muni
First time playing golf course so I didn't know what to expect. The layout crosses a "ridge" for the lack of a better term. It has some really good par 3's at 225/190/180 and then you get funky driveable par 4's at 270-310... Greens were in good shape, but overall conditions very average. It was a bit wet considering all the nice weather we had lately. They would be smart to pull out some trees to open up greens and tees so grass would grow better. Good value for the $25 all you can play on GolfNow.
Longer playing course
The course is in great shape and would recommend anyone who wants to play a longer game. The golf carts are in good shape as well if walking isn't your thing, with a restaurant and snack bar close by.
Agreed. Saw a coyote sunning himself on 17th fairway. He finally got up when we got close. Tamer than most you see. Course is much improved from years past.
