Brunswick Golf Club - Magnolia/Dogwood
About
Brunswick Plantation & Golf Resort is a 27-hole layout located in the fishing village of Calabash, North Carolina, abut 20 minutes north of Myrtle Beach.
It has three distinct nines: the Magnolia, Azalea and Dogwood. On all nines, you need to hit the ball straight off the tee, taking care of the fairway bunkers, some of which are fairly high-lipped. The course has quick, bent-grass greens, moderately large, and lush, well-tended fairways set amidst tall, Carolina pines.
On the magnolia course, there are water holes, and the course is heavily mounded and bunkered.

Fun course
Course is in great condition. Greens are smooth and fast enough. Good layout and friendly staff. Great course for the money.
Very nice round
Played here with my wife yesterday. I’m a 12 handicap and she’s low 30’s and we both enjoyed the day. The tee boxes, fairways and the greens were in exceptional shape. The sand traps I ended up in (4-5) needed some sand and maintenance, as they were mostly hard pan or just a light amount of sand. There are some holes that water comes into play that you cannot see , but they are all marked with flags so they aren’t a surprise. We arrived about 30 minutes early and we were able to get right out. We played the Magnilua/Azalea, and played the front 9 in about 1:30 with nobody in front of us. We could see a three some in front of us that we could start to see around the 7th hole so we slowed our pace a little abs ended up waiting a bit from the 10th hole on. Wasn’t too bad other than the one guy plumb bobbing after his partners had left the green and then proceeded to 5 putt. Great day overall.
first time playing and thought course was in very good condition for this time of year. Tee boxes good to very good. Fairways mostly very good with some thin areas in the roughs. Greens very good.
Fantastic shape
Course in great shape, fairways, tees, and greens. Never needed to touch ball in fairways . They have taken down some trees and improvements are noticeable. Played dogwood to azalea. Landscape in full bloom and spectacular
Brunswick Plantation
Today's round was hampered by slow play. I would have given 5 stars if not for the long waits to tee off. Great course!
Good for all
Challenging course with water and sand but fair tee lengths to accommodate any golfer. The course plays fair without gimmicks like many courses. Just play strategically and you will be rewarded. Decent greens but not deserving of an A+. We will definitely consider going back.
Enjoyed the course, very pretty
Enjoyed this course, it is fairly unique not just the same like many courses. Very pretty scenery.
Nice course away from the busy beach scene.
Go play this course. Greens were great. Fairways looked and play like a much more expensive layout. Definitely coming back!
Fun course in great condition, early March 2020
All of the courses in MB are over seeded and had brown zoyza rough in early March. It reminded me of Arizona golf and was pleasing to the eye off the tee.
The fairways at Brunswick were probably a week or two from being fantastic. All were over seeded but slightly thin in a few spots. Greens and tees were great. Lots of room off the tee and it was a great start to the week. I liked the course and would play again. Some challenging holes with enjoyable layouts. Greens were in great shape and rolled really true. A few of the bunkers needed some work with a lot of recent rain. We played Azalea/Magnolia (3 9’s). Lots of dog legs and a few holes had water in play. As it was an early round we played the whites and had no issues with distance and no forced carries. Par 3s were all ~150yrds.
We played 6 rounds and these greens were in the top two. Farmstead was in the best overall condition tee to green, with Thistle a close 3rd in condition. Thistle was a top notch course and had 3 9’s. I would give Thistle a slight edge over the Farmstead for interest and challenge, but all three are worth playing in this price range $50-$70.
Really enjoyed playing this course, definitely will be back to play again !!!
Very little grass
Nice course layout. Some narrow landing areas from tee if you don't know course. Flags were put on many of the slopes causing balls to roll back when putting up to the cup in some cases. Greens were good. Grass on the fairways was ok, grass outside the "green" areas was little or none. Sparse, dirt or mud in many areas. No base of grass at all. Bunkers need some attention. Hopefully will grow in soon, but has a ways to go to come close to the conditions at sister course.
