Brunswick Golf Club - Magnolia/Dogwood
About
Brunswick Plantation & Golf Resort is a 27-hole layout located in the fishing village of Calabash, North Carolina, abut 20 minutes north of Myrtle Beach.
It has three distinct nines: the Magnolia, Azalea and Dogwood. On all nines, you need to hit the ball straight off the tee, taking care of the fairway bunkers, some of which are fairly high-lipped. The course has quick, bent-grass greens, moderately large, and lush, well-tended fairways set amidst tall, Carolina pines.
On the magnolia course, there are water holes, and the course is heavily mounded and bunkered.

Spring Golf! Photo submitted by Sshipper on 03/09/2022
Very bad golf course
We played this land, Magnolia and Dogwood, on April 29, 2017. The only 2 things that were correct were the flags and the cart trails. The ground had not been maintained for several days, the greens and the starting areas were awful. Do not waste your money to play golf on this pitch as you will end up hailing this game if you play it.
Not worth the money
Thought this course would be nice as it has an $80 greens fee when not discounted. It wasn't worth the$40 we paid. Terrible greens that weren't cut or rolled. Ball did not roll true on many of the greens. Overall the course was not in very good shape. There is no rough to speak of and its wide open so it can be play otherwise.
Would not recommend as there are many other much nicer courses for less money
Brunswick Plantation
Nice layout, beautiful setting. Tee boxes need attention. The course needs more irrigation. Otherwise, it was in good condition. Overall, a very pleasant experience.
Great value for the money--course was in good shape considering early spring time
Rude proshop staff and course was in rough shape.
For starters, I used to love this track, it was one of my favorites for many years.
First, I checked golf now and saw tee times available in the afternoon at Brunswick Plantation.
Let's start with the first exchange I had with one of the older gentleman (2 were working at the time). I called the pro shop to check on a local rate around 12 pm. I was told the rate and when I asked about booking a tee time in the afternoon I was told there were none available for the remainder of the day. The gentleman I spoke with was not friendly or accomodating and before I could question the validity of his tee sheet (since I saw available tee times on golf now) I was hung up on. I didn't call back and went ahead and booked a tee time I found available through golf now.
When I arrived and checked in I spoke with the gentleman I spoke with on the phone and explained to him I called, asked about a tee time, was told there were none available and was hung up on. I told him he was wrong about availablility since I booked a tee time right after speaking with him through golf now. He couldn't have cared less. He's probably pushing 75-80 and has the personality of a mothball. I then asked him why he misinformed me and his response was "there must have been a cancellation." I said, "There were at least 10 tee times to choose from so I can assure you the time i booked wasn't a cancellation." He didn't apologize or offer to accommodate my inconvenience. He just kept focused on the computer screen. He isn't a reflection on the entire staff though. We went into the restaurant and were greeted by two smiling faces. The two ladies working bar were awesome. Friendly, polite and quick! The food was solid too.
As for the course. The greens were fair, I've seen worse but have seen a lot better. The greens had some bad spots and were bumpy due to high play. The tee boxes and rough looked as if they hadn't been mowed in a week, not good at all. Fairways were good, didn't have a bad lie all day. Bunkers were raked but soft. Overall course conditions- 6 out of 10.
In summary, I would not recommend Brunswick Plantation. Ive played municipal courses in similar condition for half the price. As busy as they seemed to be, one would think they could afford to keep the course in better shape. It's the middle of April and the height golf season, is hate to see what it will look like mid summer. Go spend your money somewhere else, the pro shop staff didn't seem to want it anyway.
Very rude staff
The day started out poorly with a very rude employee at the bag drop. Continuing into the clubhouse, the pro-shop employees were rude as well. The course itself offered some challenging holes, but the conditions of the course weren't great. Many of the greens needed some TLC.
Brunswick Golf
An enjoyable course; well maintained, excellent staff, new carts - well worth the money and experience.
Good Deal
Had a good time, played with a toosom from Canada.
Nice course, greens are a little blemished.
Got a good deal on Golf Now. When I signed in the gentleman in the clubhouse hardly spoke. I got the impression I was bothering him.
Nice, nice 5*****
Love this Course, will play again when in Myrtle Beach.
Good value - nothing special
Got a very good rate from Golf Now. The fairways were as expected for this time of year. Greens were a mixed bag -- had occasional non-bermuda tuft that would affect the roll of the putt. there is a fair amount of water, but the FW's are reasonably generous.
The course was not in good shape. Greens had very little grass on them making it like putting on glass. No grass no friction..
We were 10 minute s late getting briefed and getting sent to the first tee. Sand bunkers need more sand to be able to use a wedge and pick up the ball. No sand depth. Never going back
Terrible conditions
I've played 43 courses in the Myrtle Beach area since Dec 1 and by far these greens were the worst i've played on. They were terrible along with the fairways. Save your money and go elsewhere. Trust me you don't want to play here.
What a Mess
Azalea course the greens were a disaster. It was like putting on cement. 4 foot putts rolled 25 feet past the cup. I'm not that bad of a putter. Magnolia course fairways were dead, yellow. Greens were a little better though. Not recommended. First terrible course I've played in 5 years.
Course was in fine condition. Pace of play was almost 6 hours. We still had 2 holes to play and we were out there 5 and a half hours already. I think they should have someone moving people along. Waited on every shot.
Organization
Course was doing crossovers with a frost delay. Some groups stopped for lunch which further delayed groups waiting to play. Bag area did not seem organized causing more delay in loading players. Not impressed.
Nice track
Enjoyed the course totally. It was very windy I did not have my best game but I still cannot say anything negative. For March the conditions were better than I expected. The course has a very nice design and layout. Staff was very friendly. Greens were true and fast. I definitely recommend this track.
