Good course, but pace is not managed
Course is in good shape, but expect a 4.5-5 hour round as there is no marshal to keep pace of play. For an $80+ round fee that is unacceptable.
Assume this is due to the course closing in the next year or two, no extra attention.
I CRIED
Bought my 1st house to be here
Spent 7 years playing this course
Taught my nephews & GFs how to play here
I'm gonna miss every blade of grass
Great place to play round of golf
I have played here before, I would recommend this course to anybody who is visiting Charlotte and wants to have a good course to have a round of golf, Great place to play, staff was very friendly, golf course is in excellent shape, It was very hot when I played, they had facility for water, which was great.
Good challenging course
Tight layout that is challenging. Tee boxes have seen plenty of traffic. Best practice area in Charlotte of any course. Will definitely go back.
I will miss this place!
Bought my first house just to be next to this course. Played 700 rounds here since 2005. Taught my nephews how to golf here. Very sad to see it go. Wish all the employees the best.
What happened to my favorite Charlotte track?
The Ballentyne legacy has come to an end. Even though the rates are still high, the course and all amenities have been neglected since there is talk of the course closing in a years time. That is the excuse I was given for the poor conditions and shaggy greens. That’s a very very insulting excuse. Nevertheless I still have the memories of when Ballentyne Resort was a premiere course to play. I highly discourage play here with the conditions the course has been reduced to.
Let me explain why I rate Ballantyne only 3 stars
Ballantyne used to be the prettiest 5 star Charlotte course and still should be but let me tell you why it isn't anymore:
They lose a star for being 3x the price of other courses which are actually in better condition - Eagle Chase has better tee boxes, fairways, bunkers and greens yet I play there for only $20 and that includes the motor cart!
Ballantyne also loses another star for having lost most of its beauty by placing an office building on almost every other hole!
I attached a pic:
Rumored that course has been sold for development, unfortunate
Good course. Fairways in good shape overall as were the greens but high priced relative to other area courses of similar condition. Good mix of very challenging holes and not so challenging. A few sand traps were unplayable due to packed surface and standing water.
Seems like they’re not trying anymore
Ever since news broke about the course being bulldozed it seems like they gave up on course maintenance. I’ve probably played this course two dozen times over the last 3 years and it used to be much better maintained. I’ll cut them a little slack for the COVID pandemic, but they haven’t raked most of the bunkers in what seems like months and they’re essentially unplayable. The greens were the slowest I’ve ever seen them and hadn’t been rolled in a while. Not worth $82 when there are so many good courses in the area who are actually trying to warn your green fees.
Queen of the City
Hubs and my first time playing Ballantyne, won’t be our last. Course is beautiful, set up is tough but fair. We definitely had a few shots we’d like to have back but as is for a first time round. Pace of play was good and I appreciated the attention to detail from the time we arrived. Patience is rewarded, keep it in fairway and you’ll have a solid round!
Great Course
Course was in excellent condition besides some thinning around the greens. Will hate to see this course go.
Great Course
Played during COVID restrictions. Ballantyne has great bar and facilities. Unfortunately not able to utilize these. Great course!
Even though it was busy we were done in just over 4 hours. The greens are fast and tricky. Great value, friendly and safe staff, will definitely play again soon.
Great track
The course was in good condition. Somehow, they didn't have mine and a friends confirmation on our free round so we had to pay to play. I had called and talked to Leo at Golf Now and he was very helpful giving my code back for me to use. He also helped me get a credit back on a charge that I had cancelled because it wouldn't take my code over my phone.
Great Day
It was a great day. Our twosome played in just over 3 hours, staff was a "6" on the 1-5 scale provided by GolfNow and the course was in great shape! Greens looked a little rough but rolled fast and true, no complaints! Thanks and I will come back soon!
