Approach shot on one of the holes.. shows the average putting green condition Photo submitted by dmhj4evr on 09/30/2013
Solid course, good value
This is a good municipal course. It is challenging enough, but not too hard for most average golfers.
Nice layout, but needs work.
Greens were in good shape, but tees were subpar. Very undulating course, including the greens. Needs some cosmetic upkeep but has an interesting layout.
NO HOT DOGS, LOL
For a public city course it is in great shape with a beautiful layout, quite the diamond in the rough. BUT, I eat hot dogs at 2 places only, baseball parks and golf courses at the turn. When we got to the turn we had to wait on the pro shop to come help us (only 1 employee) and then was told that they were out,,,, out of hot dogs??? They keep basically forever, how in the world do you run out?? The course was not crowded at all,,, very disappointing!! I hope they won't complain when I bring in my own food next time but lets end on a good note, the course was in good shape and love the layout!!
I like this course because it is out by itself with no houses packed around it. Natural beautiful course.
I played with a couple of tar heel and duke golfers. It was a lot of fun watching them compete against each other. As for me. I had never seen the course and shot a 76. I had a good day.
Book With Confidence
I was in town visiting my sister who lives in Charlotte and wanted to get a round in with my dad and my son. This was the closest public track to her house, so it made the most sense to play here. The course had a really fun and challenging layout, and the greens were rolling really true for being off season. When I mentioned that to the staff member, he told me they just redid all the greens.
The only negative of the whole day was pace of play. Somehow we were stuck behind 4 groups of absolute hacks who decided they wanted to play a scramble. When I say they were hacks, calling them terrible would be an upgrade. At times we were 3 groups deep on a tee box, with no way of playing through. Obviously the skill level of the golfers is no reflection on the course, but had there been a ranger doing there job, they would have been able to step in.
Great course but needs a ranger
Perfect sunny day with awesome weather but no ranger to move the slow players along created some frustration which ultimately caused me to throw in the towel on hole 13.
Great Muni
Excellent layout and in great shape. Nice practice facilities. Pace of play was a bit of a problem.
no ranger
They have a 5 players group in front of us I called the front and told them it was very slow we were only 2 players and they said they knew but it was very busy
so sucked up
Back in shape
Course was in solid condition. Greens and fairways were good today after the re-opening. A few tee boxes still need some care, but overall in good shape. The cart paths do need a lot of work. This is not a private course so don’t except those type amenities regarding carts, club house or range/range balls. The course can be a tricky since it does have more than a few blind tee shots due to the elevation changes. Also, there are some bunkers and waste land areas than can be issue if you misplace a tee shot. This can make for a challenging first round at this course.
Nice new greens
New greens are great. Fairways in good shape. A bit of standing water is a few places. Some tee boxes need a little TLC. But overall a good value and a fun course to play.
Wow! New greens are fantastic!
I hadn't played Harry Jones since before they shut down for green replacement. Wow, they did a fantastic job. This golf course was always close by, convenient, fairly-priced and the staff is always super friendly. Now they have a beautiful set of greens to go along with everything else that makes this public track a special place in Charlotte. Do yourself a favor and check out the renovations. They did a fantastic job. I think these greens are only going to get better as they continue to grow.
