Approach shot on one of the holes.. shows the average putting green condition Photo submitted by dmhj4evr on 09/30/2013
Location and price
Sounds like it’s improved. I’m new to the area and play it for location and price. Can’t be a little slow at times, difficult to see the group ahead of you from most tees. Adding bells would be huge improvement.
Layout is fun yet challenging.
Decent But Challenging
The course greens were decent for a municipal course. The rough was not terrible yet offered some challenges. If it’s your first time out on the course, you will be challenged. Overall, an enjoyable outing.
Great value for the price
This is a muni golf course so don't expect the Ritz. This course is very descent and the greens are in great shape. Front 9 is easier than the back 9. One drivable par 4 which is fun. Fairways not the best rated but descent. Fun design and challenging for all skill levels. Course is starting to really green up as summer approaches.
New Year New Course
This is a Mecklenburg County Course so Pro ship is weaker than most BUT they continue to get newer clubs and balls. The grill has craft beer selections, solid. These things plus the poor fleet of carts is why there are really no 5s awarded. The course though is so much better. Go play! Highly enjoyable. Been several times. The greens are great. The back 9 is gorgeous! The short game course is awesome addition and you can’t beat unlimited wedge practice for 6 dollars and their driving range is as large as the higher end courses
Worst course in Charlotte
This place is a dump, literally. Greens are diseased, there are mosquito infested puddles, ant hills, and a lingering trash smell from when this place actually served its purpose well. I made the mistake of playing for a second, and last time.
This course is not good!!!!
First time playing this course and last time. I played with my 2 sons, we try different course around SC and NC. The greens are some of the worst I have ever seen, there are ant beds everywhere and there was mud and puddles all over. This course is NOT worth the money.
So disappointing
A really bad experience. Greens were in consistently bad condition including patches of crabgrass on fringes. Back nine fairways were either soggy and muddy or hard as a rock. My last time there.
Value...
For $28 Senior rate at 2PM, cannot complain about much. Conditions.....Fairways were very spotty but that is normal for this time of year as the Bermuda is just starting to come out. The greens were areated about mid-March so many were pretty bumpy. It looked like they were starting to come out well. The layout is definitely different. Lots of blind tee shots, so make sure you know where the fairway is going before you swing. The back in particularly interesting with a very wide variety of holes with lots of elevation changes.
Ok to play, but in transition.
Decent.
Some tee boxes in transition. The transition areas are not in play. Fairways were average. Most greens, except two or three were very good.
Nice place to play ; excuse the greens ;-)
Nice layout ; some interesting holes ; greens need maintenance
I played a nice morning round with John&Wayne (yeah...nice guys...we had some fun..)
I would enjoy this course even more if the greens would recover in the next weeks/months.
Layout is really interesting and offers opportunities for all skills of golfers.
You have to admit that lots of teeshots are blind... but don´t worry most holes are offering reasonable landing zones ...;-)
Wide open fairways
If you like hills and can't see where your ball is going then this is your course... The sprinklers were left on hole 1 box so we were going to start and tee off from 9 when we were yelled at a worker at course... He then turned sprinklers off... Grass along fairways were long and thick... Lost many golf balls though found some that other golfers couldn't find that were probably lost before us
Good Course, Not Busy, Greens Need a Little Work
The course is hilly and there are plenty of blind shots which make it difficult for first timers. We were able to play 18 holes on a nice early fall Sunday morning in just under 41/4 hrs. The tee boxes, fairways and bunkers were all in good shape. The greens were a little patchy and sandy but not the worst I've played on. If the greens and golf paths were better maintained, I would rate this course much higher. All-in-all, I would return here to play again.. especially if I can get through the round in just over 4hrs!
BALL SWALLOWING ROUGH
The course has a great layout and creates a nice challenge. The rough needs to be attended to as the ball gets buried below the surface and cannot be found even when slightly off the fairway. The greens have quite a few bad spots and areas that need to be corrected. This is the only course I have played in the past four months that has no course maintenance workers present (it shows). The best golfer in our group said he will never return.
In bad shape
The course was in pretty bad shape. There were several occasions where we lost our balls in the rough just slightly off the fairway. Rough was extremely long and the previously mowed grass was everywhere. Greens had just been aerated the week before but were in pretty bad shape as well (bald and sandy). I'm hoping the course bounces back quickly but I would not recommend for at least maybe another couple of weeks. They did provide us with a $20 voucher when we payed, so that took a lot of the "sting" out of the experience.
A success story for municipal golf....a recovered landfill. Perhaps a little too long for the average player, and managable from the senior tees.
Pick the right tees or you're in for a long day. Demanding driving course.
Nice Layout - Hidden greens from tee box
Lots of hidden greens from the Tee box, and since this was my first time at the course it made for an interesting round. I think they have bermuda grass just off the fairways, it will hide your ball, almost have to step on it to find a ball a couple of feet off the fairway. Very nice layout though.
Played fast, but greens poor
I have played this course many times over the years. The fairways were in very good condition, but the greens were the worst I have ever seen.
im glad i paid what i paid to play this course
Do not pay more than 20 dls to play this course ,renaissance gc is not whatever it used to be and I truly believe is overrated!!!
Convenient but not great value
I've played Renaissance many times before but finally came to the conclusion the value is just not there. The rough is poorly kept and we were losing golf balls less than 10 feet out of the fairways. Greens were in below-average condition also
