Always Great
Doesn’t matter when you go out there, the course is always in excellent shape. The design is great, but the conditions are really what make it. Slick greens but fair and true. Great fairways, consistent rough. All you want in a course.
We enjoyed this nice course
The greens were very nice for the most part, just some parts had something killing the grass. Hole #2 has a double slope which can be tricky if on the wrong tier. Hole #3 is a long dog leg left with a creek along the right side. plays like a 5 par for me. Hole #11 is an uphill that requires an extra club or 2 for me to reach the green in 2. Hole #14 is a 3 par downhill that slopes a lot to the right, I 3 putted that hole being a long putt uphill to the hole that was at the extreme right side of the green. Hole #17 slopes severely away from your second shot. If your ball stops above the hole like mine did, take the 3 putt and go on.
Needed mowing
The fairways, rough and collars were very shaggy. We play their 2-3 times a month and we haven’t seen the grass this long before. Made for a tough round as there was absolutely no roll with difficult chip shots. Usually they have it well manicured. There was a good bit of rain 4 days before we played but sunny since, mowing should have been a priority.
Negatives outweighed positives
Tough to review.. there really are good points to the course, bar and grill, some challenging and other playable holes for average golfers . Course was in decent shape..
Biggest problem was pace of play. Up to four groups playing same hole.
Starter said pace of play on front nine was running at one hour fifty minutes when it was actually over 2 hours twenty.. To be fair I wasn't feeling or playing great so the experience might have been better but I wouldn't play it again under the same conditions
Superintendent
We love playing this place and that is the first thing we look forward too. The bar, the staff the view, all very sexy. We understand that the mountains can get Smokey after that beautiful rain. I would say this might be the worst decision they made. This comes from the staff looking us in the eyes after the sun came out and told us the course was closed. I understand safety, but this was past that. It ended up being one of the most beautiful days I’ve ever seen in the mountains and they told us the course was shut down. This may seem like a lot but we our group had 1,2 holes left. We were told to go home and that we had played enough.
No “we’ll let y’all play 18” (sun was out) - gorgeous
No rain check
No hospitality
Locked the restaurant
Superintendent “y’all played enough”
I’ll let you decide.
Great day for golf!
Good pace of play, started earlier than our 11:20 tee time. Course in exceptional condition. Back 9 much harder than front 9. Club sandwich at turn was very good. Will play again this year.
From Wowed to becoming horrible
I have loved Maggie Valley Golf for many years back when Dawton was the golf manager. But last year it wasn’t WOW i am so glad I am playing this awesome course. I gave it a pass because of Covid-19 although a year later and its now getting so bad that I will no longer waste my time or money playing here. It’s like the management decided to keep all the profits and not reinvest into the course. Tee boxes are shaggy carpet and greens as so bad that a month after aeration they won’t heal back as they normally would have healed. They are charging more money for a sub-par product.
Funny thing is as Maggie Valley gets worse each year Springdale golf gets better and better. I look forward to how Laurel Ridge improves now that the owners of Spring Dale just purchased them. I sure wish they would BUY Maggie Valley so they can save their reputation before they become just another smokey mountain golf crap course.
Greens recently aerated
With greens being recently aerated, it was almost impossible to putt on the greens. There should have been discounted rates for this I believe.
Dean McMahon
Great course. Need a ranger on duty circulating around course to speed up play. Beautiful views
CANCELLED Due to frost delay
The course was closed for the entire day, therefore we were able to play this course on that particular day. How can we get a refund or at a minimum a credit? The one star rating is only because we were not able to play. Never made it to the course. We were told over the phone that the course was closed and would not open. We would need to request a refund through Golf Now.
Great Mountain Course
As a single I was paired up with some great guys and the course was in great shape. Highly recommend playing it!
Château Élan Stay & Play Golf Package
Though golfers always play our golf course at their own risk, Maggie Valley Club & Resort reserves the right to close the course due to unsafe playing conditions. It is unfortunate when we have make this call, but several heavy rain events have required it on more than one occasion this spring. We do this to protect the safety of our guest, the turf and, ultimately, the member and guest experience at our club.
Our goal is for everyone to have fun and enjoy their time at Maggie Valley Club & Resort. When our team communicates a difficult call to golfers, we understand it is a disappointment and may not allow you to finish your round. The team communicates these occurrences respectfully and professionally, and the expectation is that our members and guests will reciprocate that courtesy.
We thank all of our members and guests who appreciate the beauty and condition of the golf course at Maggie Valley Club & Resort.
