Good Course with Great Potential
Love the course and greens but they have an impending crab grass issue on the greens that will need to be addressed soon.
Good Course People
Had a 50 person tournament and did not tell us so some issues at tee off times as tournament people just pushed in at the turn as it was s shot gun. Never seen such ignorance before but the marshal sorted everything out and was great and we had a good day out
Felt like a member
Great friendly staff. The clubhouse looked amazing. Tennis courts. Basketball hoops. Pool. I felt like a member of a members only club. Course was a nice challenger. Will definitely play again.
Fun, Fair and Strategy - All in one course
This review is from a round played during the week from the forward tees. As noted by other golfer's reviews, the carts have a GPS so if you have never played you can "see" the hole layout and get yardages (which is especially useful on a Par 4 or 5 where you can't see green due to the elevation changes).
Based on the scorecard (slope 107) for the red tees, it is relatively easy because it is not too long (which makes it fun and fair) but you do need to think strategically on many holes due to the topography. For example, on hole 14, you can hit a drive over the bunker (or trees) on the left and be in a great spot for your second shot but if you hit your drive to far right, you may need to layup on your second shot (or risk being in the muck at the bottom of the hill).
Also, the greens were rock hard (perhaps because it is fall) and so you had to be careful and know how they slope. I was playing with golfers that knew the course so they could tell me about the slope of greens before I hit my approach shot.
The staff was very welcoming! It was early morning and 40 degrees (and they offered a free cup of coffee).
The practice area is right by the clubhouse (putting green, driving range, seperate practice area --to the right of the putting -- for chipping and bunker practice; which is nice because I hate warming up on a putting green and having to dodge golfers chipping onto the same green.
We did wait (a bit too often) on the group in front of us but we still finished 18 in around 4 hours (on a week day) not sure what pace of play is like on the weekend but I assume a bit longer (as it is with most courses).
Overall, definitely a course I will play again.
Great course
It was my first time playing here and I loved it. The greens looked nice and decently fast. Didn’t land in the sand so didn’t pay too much attention to that. GPS in the carts is a cool addition and that along with their driving range will probably separate them from the local competition. I’m considering becoming a member there actually
Big improvements! Course on the rise!
Brand new top of the line EzGo golf carts with gps. You can tell the money the new owners have brought table is really starting to make a difference!
Totally great experience!
This is the 2nd time playing this course. They have just done an upgrade in their carts. The carts are brand new and have GPS. Might sound petty to some people but knowing your distance makes the game a bit more fun!
Staff is always friendly. Pace of play is always great. Some holes do require some making. Greens were in decent shape for the time of year.
Defo recommend this course!
Fun, Unique Course for Upstate SC
Our Meetup group just played a round at The Club at Brookstone this past weekend and really enjoyed it! The course layout and topography is fairly unique for the area and provides some fun challenges. It's got a good mix of distance and strategy, allowing some holes to launch a driver while others require a more thoughtful approach. The par 3 holes were a bit longer than other courses in the area, but again, it provides a challenge we haven't really seen on other courses. The staff was friendly and their new carts (with GPS units) were great! The course was in pretty good condition despite the late-fall weather. You can tell they've invested in upkeep and improvements to the course and I look forward to playing there again.
Enjoyed It and the Greens are Nice
I heard this place was under new ownership so I wanted to come out and try it. I think the difference is night and day compared what it was a year ago when I last played here. The rest of the Upstate needs to lookout, because this is becoming a seriously amazing golf course. I am adding this into my list of course that I like to cycle through!!
Also their golf carts are really nice, definitely the best of any public course in the area
Nice Greens
Enjoyed the course and thought the greens played well. They rolled true and the course's vertical change is refreshing and fun
Huge improvement
Great layout and really impressed with the condition of the greens. Good, true speed on the greens. Looking forward to playing this course more as the conditions continue to improve especially during the summer months. Kudos to the staff!
Greens too hard and fast
The greens are too hard and fast. Every ball that hit pin high on the greens would roll 20’ off the back side of the greens. Every putt had to be a defensive putt as anything with any speed would roll 10’ at least past the hole.
Nice course, especially considering it’s public
This was my first time playing this course and honestly, it was a pleasant surprise. I expected the course conditions, particularly the greens, and pace of play to be not so good on a public course on a Friday. I was wrong! Brookstones course conditions were really good, the fairways played well and the greens were in good condition. The greens played slightly bumpy on a few holes but nothing that would ruin a round. Due to the rainy weather recently, there were a few soggy spots on the course but not too bad.
Biggest con I’d point out is the driving range was like hitting out of a mud pit. Driving range should be closed off for a week or so to allow grass to grow back so that you can actually hit from some grass and not all dirt/mud.
All in all, I look forward to playing this course regularly in the future.
