Work in Progress
The Pickens course is undergoing renovation/build out. The proshop is currently a trailer, but they do have plans and are starting to build a clubhouse.
The tees are blue/orange. Play the Blue for the 1st 9 and Orange for the 2nd. This gives some variety even changing a par 4 into a par 5. Course is open enough that you are not loosing balls every hole if you are not completely straight off the tee but is still challenging.
It has been hot here and the fairways were very dry and hard. I hope as they put in a new clubhouse they do spme watering on the fairway.
Overall an enjoyable afternoon on a nice course.
The staff was very friendly as was the other golfer that I met there and played with.
Pickens Golf course use to be country club
I booked this reservation thinking I would be playing Pickens Country Club which I've played numerous times but not in the last 4 years. I should have paid more attention. They retained 9 holes, which you play twice from different tees for an 18 hole round. They are developing the rest of the property into a Luxury Camping and RV Golf Resort. They retained holes 4 -11 and 18. The greens have shrunk and overall the course was in poor shape. I wouldn't recommend this course to anyone but a beginner golfer or someone wanting to get in a quick nine. Bottom line is they ruined the golf course by shrinking it to 9 holes.
Course is going through Changes
Only have 9 holes available, they set up two different tee boxes so you play the same 9 twice but from different yardages. Course wasn’t in bad shape for early March, they’re building a new clubhouse. Paid $22 total, good value, if you’re just getting out for the year/want to get some swings in.
Great staff the updates will be awesome
The course will be much better once its updated. Only have 9 holes slowed down pace on the backend
2 timer
First time playing a little difficult figuring where some greens were., But for 9 holes it made the second time around okay. Longer fairways made it golf worthy.
Only 9 holes but fun layout
Lot of work going on here at Pickens. Play the same 9 twice. Play the Blue tees first time around and the Orange tees second time around. Some holes are par 4’s first time by and next time could be a par 5 or par 3. For late winter fairways are good shape. Course is not long but enjoyable to play. Just be aware you could have a quick nine but second nine could be slow due to others starting their round. My friend playing with me ranked it in his top 5 courses. He does not like long courses so this was up his alley. He wants to go back. Playing same nine twice not my favorite but I’ll probably go back just not often. Give it a shot !
sneaky tough
The fairways have good body and the greens roll true. There is a fair amount of undulation on the greens and when they have been mown down and rolled they can be treacherous. That, fortunately, was not the case today. The course is not long, even from the back tees, but it is strategically bunkered. Between the bunkering and the greens bogeys can sneak uo on you in a hurry. It is a fun course and the pro treats you with respect; the snack bar has good sandwiches.
Good value
Course was in great shape. Good golf for a reasonable price
Dollar for Dollar, one of the best
By far my favorite course around. Great condition. Fun to play.
The course was a lot of fun.
Well kempt. The greens held and the fairways were lush. There was a rain delay, but the course drained well and was playable right after it stopped. We had a good time.
some holes are very beatiful
we got a great deal on the greens fee and the course was very nice
The greens are in superb condition and the course is very playable.
Do yourself a favor and play this course. A gem in rural SC.
good bang for your buck
A nice course to play. The fairways were in good shape, and the greens were fast. The super deal on Golfnow.com made it a really great value.
Good layout
I grew up playing this course, and just as I remembered the greens were firm, fast, and in great shape. The rest of the course, however left a little to be desired. The cart paths were rough all the way around, the front 9 had several places where the ground was under repair, tee boxes throughout were fair at best, and once you got off the fairway 50% of the time you had a very rough patch to hit from (lots of bare spots). It's surely not my favorite place to play, but the layout was good, staff friendly, and I am sure to go back. Thank you golfnow.com for providing a great value!
Fun
Im by no means a great golfer, but from golfing other places and seeing what they have to offer it was a really good time. The course was not super long. I had a chance on most holes if I hit a drive 200+ to hit the green in two besides par 5s. The greens are fast but I think that just adds to the challenge.
Good value. Some challengig holes.
Nice course. Well pleased with our round. Would recommend this course.
