Good layout
It's definitely a shot makers course. Had a good layout with many challenging approach shots. Course is bunkered well and was a great value. The pace of play was terrible especially for during the week and early afternoon at that. I would recommend for anyone to give the course a go.
Stay on fairways
Course is in superb condition and has great layout. Five sets of tee boxes, so you can play the distance that matches your skill level. Play it straight because the rough just off the fairways is deeper than most courses.
Thank you Links O'T ryon staff
Excellent course and even better staff. Golf now said the price for the course was higher than the actual course rate. The staff was kind enough to inform me of this and I actually paid less than planned.
Poor greens
I will not be back until the greens are better. There are massive dead spots and places where sod has been placed and is in the process of taking. The areas of the green that had grass were shaggy and slow. The tee boxes, fairways, bunkers and the rest of the course was in great shape. The greens were just too bad to overlook given the hour drive to get there.
Sad for these guys
Great course. Played it three times before but greens mostly were lost to “winter kill” even though they are patching and trying to bring them back. Might be a joy to play again around October. Everything else is A+
Terrible greens
I have played Links O Tryon many times but never with the greens in such terrible condition. Every one of the 18 greens have large dead areas where there is no grass at all. On some greens they have laid sod on some parts of the green but left large areas without doing anything. All the greens need to be redone with new sod if I am ever going to play there again. Sad, as it used to be my favorite course in the area.
Not a good choice.
I've played this course before and really enjoyed it. This time was different. The greens we're terrible. Part dirt, part grass and part sod. There were even patches of sod in the bunkers. See of the water cooler on the course were empty, which is not good in 90°+ temperatures. And no beverage cart. I don't know if they changed management, but I have no intentions of returning anytime soon.
Greens need serious help
Sadly this course was not in the ‘good shape’ I was told over the phone. Almost every green had large grey ‘problem areas’ in dire need of repair, regrowth or replacement altogether. I was looking forward to playing here since it was my first time, but when greens are in that poor of shape, it changes everything. Fairways, course layout, friendliness of staff were all fine and since it was a 90 degree mid week day, we flew around in 3.5 hours.
They should get help from the new greens keeper that Cleghorn Plantation took on last year who made their greens spectacular. If you can get a hot deal on cleghorn for under $25 with fees, that’s a great option or Cummings Cove in Hendersonville.
I would definitely play here again if the greens get fixed. There were some nice character holes and water adds to the character. Some bunkers were in awful shape and some had different color / quality of sand.
What Greens!!!
Greens are bare due the heavy rains in the area...fairways are in good shape...it will be weeks before the greens come back to par...pace of play was good.
Very sorry to see these conditions
Played this course in late winter. It was in great shape then for the time of year. We could not wait to return when the fairways “came in” and were told the greens would be super fast. Well, something happened. They have lost almost every green. Not sure if they burnt ‘em up or what happened but someone probably lost their job. Hope they return to what they were before the end of fall. Black, grassless patches everywhere. Tee boxes fine; fairways great. We hope to return soon!
Try Links O’Tryon
Very nice course. Each hole was a unique challenge. Lots of hills and dog legs. Favorite hole: “a wee bit of he**”. I can’t say the name since this survey prohibits cussing.
Nice course
Beautiful views of mountains. Great value. Enjoyed it a lot. Will definitely play this course again.
Definitely Revisiting Soon!
My brother and I came for our first visit of the club/course and left with a positive experience. We arrived and were greeting warmly in the clubhouse by both the pro shop attendant and the starter. The putting green was in great shape and gave us an accurate representation of the green speed for the round. Upon approaching the first hole, the starter was wonderful and gave us a great overview of the course, as well as some great suggestions that we utilized throughout our round.
The course was in very good shape overall considering the time of year. The tee boxes were not necessarily lush; however, the boxes were smooth (flat) and offered a great teeing surface. The fairways played very nicely and most of the bunkers were filled with actual sand and not just Carolina clay. We really enjoyed the fact that the greens were overall not too challenging coupled with pristine placement of protective bunkers around them. Our only complaint would be the greens on the back nine as they were a little rough and patchy in places- - definitely not horrible, but need a little bit of work.
The pace of play was pretty good considering that it was a Saturday afternoon. It took us about 4:15 to play through 18 holes as we had to wait on about 1/2 of the tees for the group in front of us. The beverage cart came through a couple of times and did a good job of making its way around.
In summary, we thoroughly enjoyed our round and the value for the price we paid. I highly recommend this course to others and want to let management know that we will definitely be revisiting. One more shout out to the starter for his tips of advice!
First time at Links o Tryon
Definitely worth the drive from GVL.
Trees were budding and the grass still dormant. Weather was mid 70's with a slight breeze.
Paired with two "members" in their 70's that play very well. They were excellent stewards of the sport and provided key advice to successfully get around the course.
It was a great day. Life Is Good.

Very nice layout with views of the mountains in the distance. Being that it is March, the course is still dormant which makes it very playable. My only negative would be that the greens are in rough shape due to damage.
Great Course for the money
I really enjoy this course, it's a great layout. You can make this challenging, just step back a tee box! Greens are quick, I hope they stay this way during the summer months.
