Northwoods Golf Course
About
Northwoods Golf Club is one of the Columbia area's premier public courses. P.B. Dye, son of renowned course architect Pete Dye, designed the layout, incorporating some of his father's signature features. The golf course is player friendly enough to appeal to any skill level but there are some challenges in store as well. Mature trees line most of the fairways and there are a few strategically placed bunkers that come into play. You won't come across much water on this golf course and it's not terribly long either. It's gentle enough for beginners to approach with confidence. The golf course's signature hole is the par-4 14th, which features the famous Dye railroad ties bordering a lake that hugs the bunkered green. Northwoods G.C. also offers a practice facility with a lighted driving range and putting green.

Must play!
The Spur at Northwoods is one of my favorite courses in Columbia. The greens were in excellent shape and the layout is challenging. The staff was friendly and helpful. If you get a chance, go by and visit the Spur at Northwoods. Greg and the crew will take good care of you!
Gettin Better
The track has certainly improved and looks like they are doing the right things to make the course better. The greens look the best I've seen them in some time. The bunkers still need more work to finish them but overall was a good experience. We'll certainly play here more in the future.
Saturday 6/29 Review
Course is in good shape. Greens have recovered very well from the summer punch and are rolling well. Rough is growing in nicely and the fairways are nearly perfect. They’ve done a great job turning this course around and I’m happy to add it back to the rotation.
In the best shape in years
Greens could actually hold shots and were not bouncy. The fairways and rough were in good shape. For some reason the tee boxes not as good as I’ve seen them. I will go back. Groups were stacked up a little bit, but that’s normal for a public course.
Very good
Great layout, greens were nice and the price was fantastic!
Great Value
Course was in pretty good shape, greens were in good shape. Played Friday at 8am, ended up being a 4 hour round. For the money, you can't beat this course. Love the layout and staff. Definitely recommend this course!
Improving
The course is improving and the greens were very good. Some of the greens are hard to hold but most were better today. Great views of Lake Murray on several holes.
Greens just sanded.
I have played this course several times and it has greatly improved since a change in ownership but still needs further improvement. I booked through Golf Now and did not know they were sanding greens. Some greens weren’t bad and some were loaded with sand. It ruined our round. I will be discussing this with golf now. Generally it’s a decent course for the price and today was an exception.

Happy Course is back!
I have been playing this course for several years and I can now fully recommend this course to all my friends and family. This course was once a premium course but sadly went down hill quickly. The conditions were horrible and wasn’t getting better. Well under new ownership and lots of money put into the courses maintenance which included new greens, tree trimming, new cart path areas and irrigation and fairway improvements this course is Back!!! Awesome job to the new owner and his staff including all the maintenance people along with Greg McBride in the club house. This now is a great value and a course that is fun to play. My only negative comment would be this course continues to allow 5 somes out on the course and really makes it slow play. The starter won’t do anything as most of the 5 somes come from members or groups that play in their local Dog fights. This shouldn’t be allowed and I hope management will listen and stop this process from happening.
Average course
Nothing really special here. Course is set up bad if you plan to walk it, long walk from range to hole 1, and a hike from 10 to 11. Otherwise it’s an average course, greens sometimes run pretty slow, and if it ever rains it’s going to be terrible. This is my go-to course because of the rate I get ($5 with SCJGA). But it’s really just an average course.

The New Look
I played the New Spur Club formerly the old Northwoods. I wouldn’t even put Northwoods in the same discussion as The Spur Club which would be a total disrespect. Northwoods was seen as abandoned by the previous owner and totally unplayable at the end of the Northwoods tenure. The Spur Club and it’s new owner and their team from staff inside the club house, and starter on the tee box was phenomenal, and hats off to the team. The course play well and setup nice for good course management/ position golf to score well. The Pete Dye design took havoc on my game at times. The greens are fairly hard, but rolls true and fast. The greens will get better with time and mother nature. The Spur Club will definitely see me and my golf group again. I like to say Fantastic job to the new owner and The Spur Club Team for putting in the time and the money and getting it right the first time..
Nice
The course is a little long playing from the white tees couple of the greens still recovering almost there the course was groomed well

Pleasantly surprised.
Haven't played here in a few years because it was slowly going down hill. I heard they did a lot of work to it so I decided to give them a try. What a big surprise.... the course was in great shape.... best it has ever been. Will definitely play another round in the near future.
Home Course
I have played at Northwoods for as long as I have been playing golf, almost 20 years. I grew up taking lessons here and learned the game, the right way, from the staff and pros here. Even when Northwoods fell on hard times, I continued to play and support the people who gave me my love for the game. Now, the course is easily the best value in Columbia, with one of the most fun and unique layouts. The greens roll true, the majority of the extra brush has been removed, and minus a few spots that retain water, the course is in the best shape I’ve seen it in over 20 years. Northwoods is always the course I look to play whenever I get a chance to play, and even after all these years, still provides a fun, fair challenge everytime I play.
Lake Murray isn't around The Spur at Northwoods. There is no lake there, just some larger areas of water here and there. If you were playing a course on Lake Murray then you were playing Timberlake.
