The Windermere Club

About
Located just outside of Columbia, The Windermere Club sits along the banks of the lake that it takes its name from. Pete Dye designed the golf course, crafting a number of memorable holes. It's his only design in the Midlands. No two holes are alike on this challenging layout, so expect to use every club in your bag. The golf course offers a variety of risk-reward opportunities that will appeal to both low and high handicappers. There are also five, and sometimes six, tee boxes on every hole, making the golf course even more appealing for any skill level. The fairways are generous but lined with mature hardwoods and there are strategically placed bunkers to contend with. Golfers at The Windemere Club will also encounter subtle but tricky elevation changes and several lakes and ponds.

Slow greens
Greens were recently punched, and extremely slow!
Lots of thin lies around the greens.
Overall the course still needs work!
Course is improving
I played the course last year the greens were fuzzy the tee boxes were in decent shape .the fairways played ok if you were in good position the maintenance seemed to be heading the right direction for the last time I played
Excellent track and Value!
Enjotmyed the unique course layout. Pretty tough course and excellent scenery. Looking forward to coming back!
The course was very neglected. Greens were moderate - fairways had little turf - lots of bare patches.
Disappointed to pay $75 each - on arrival at the club the green fee for a walk-up was $49.
Classic Dye layout with poor conditions
The course gives you the classic Dye layout and features. But the conditions were well below what we played on other area courses during a recent golf trip to Columbia. The practice facilities are pretty poor, too. Overall, if you love Pete Dye and can overlook the poor course conditions, you’ll have fun.
When in Columbia, SC...
Made a trek down South to escape the Midwest weather and catch a practice round of the Masters. Nice course, great layout, had rained quite a bit so not fair to comment on the upkeep of the course. Would definitely play if back in SC.
Great layout - nice water holes
Playing a few courses in the are (Northwoods, Golden Hills, Mid-Carolina) this was my first time playing Windermere and I really enjoyed it. It is forgiving enough for a high handicapper but still challenging enough for a low handicapper playing back further on the tees. Great mixture of waste bunkers, water and undulating fairways. The greens were in good shape and were not as fast as the other courses I played so I had to be more aggressive with the putts. The 18th is just awe inspiring. Great course for the money. I'm definitely coming back here to play again.
Better in spring or summer
The wind is difficult on this course with so many water holes. I think once the grass is back and thriving, the greens will play a lot better. Felt like spring but still played like a winter course.
Pete Died
Wanted to play this course for a while due to the 4 star rating. The layout was very fun and the course was well designed. I wish the course had been maintained better it still has a lot of potential. The price wasn't worth the conditions. Weeds everywhere, a few dead spots on the greens(not to bad, didn't affect my round at all) bunkers weren't good, and the cart path was super bumpy, my cup kept jumping out of the cup holder. I enjoyed the round but this is not a 4 star course. It's a 2.5 star course.
