Northwoods Golf Course
About
Northwoods Golf Club is one of the Columbia area's premier public courses. P.B. Dye, son of renowned course architect Pete Dye, designed the layout, incorporating some of his father's signature features. The golf course is player friendly enough to appeal to any skill level but there are some challenges in store as well. Mature trees line most of the fairways and there are a few strategically placed bunkers that come into play. You won't come across much water on this golf course and it's not terribly long either. It's gentle enough for beginners to approach with confidence. The golf course's signature hole is the par-4 14th, which features the famous Dye railroad ties bordering a lake that hugs the bunkered green. Northwoods G.C. also offers a practice facility with a lighted driving range and putting green.

GREAT course for the price
My ratings are based on the time of year and the price I paid ($17). Just moved to the area and I was pleasantly surprised with this course. It is a very nice layout with great course conditions for Late November. Greens and tee boxes are overseeded So nice and green. The grounds crews were out blowing leaves off the greens and fairways which you wouldn’t expect at a course with such a reasonable greens fee. I will definitely play this course again and probably use it as my home course.
Tuesday Round at The Spur
My group enjoyed our round at The Spur. The greens were in great shape, on par with Oak Hills and Timberlake. The Par Three’s offer a variety of lengths...mostly longer including one over 200 yards. . Pace of play is quick—we were the second group off at 7:56 and finished at 12:15.
Nice course
Really enjoyed the entire round. Course was in great shape for the time of year. Will definitely play again.
Good course and great staff
We play every Saturday and this is a great course to get some golf in before the ball games. The course is somewhat narrow and big hitters are challenged to keep their ball in play. They continue to make improvements and the bunkers are always cleanly raked throughout the day. The staff is always very friendly and we enjoy playing there.
I’d play it again.
So I finally played The Spur at Northwoods and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I have heard in the past that it was a good course at one time but they had let the greens go. WIthin the past two years, from what I understand, they have put new greens in. I have to say that the greens were in very good shape for it being towards the end of a strong playing season. The greens are very durable, looked good and not a lot of pitch marks. I will caveat that by saying No.17 green needs a lot of work. The left side of the green is in tough shape. For the rest of the course, there were a couple of areas that need attention but didn’t effect play unless you got off the fairway. The fairways were wide open and but you will find yourself hitting out of various types of turf. ALot of mix grasses. Bermuda is some areas and looked like Zoysia in others. I have to say that I was surprised at how long the course was. I played the Back tees and a lot of the par 4s were right around or exceeded the 400 yd. mark. One par 3 was over 200. I hit the ball pretty good and a couple of the par 5s were reachable in 2 and a few 4s I hit irons off the tee. I think offered a little diversity out of the bag which I love.
Pro shop had a good amount of gear to sell and the bar area had good seating and dogs for the turn. The lady serving though wasn’t much of a people person. Got the impression we were bothering her for service. After it was all said and done, for $25 bucks, it was a great value and a really fun course to play. I’d play it again!
Slow play today
Course is going into fall conditions so dont expect lush green fairways and roughs. Pace was terrible today 5.5 hours. They are making good improvements to the course but they have a lot to do. I love the layout.
Good inexpensive course
Course was fun but not on par with other courses I’ve played. The tee boxes were like concrete and we couldn’t t put our tees into the ground. But overall bang for your buck a good course.
Great course conditions all around
This course has come full circle from a few years ago. Since being under new ownership and putting a lot of money into improvements in the course which includes new greens, improved fairways and tee boxes, new sod in areas that needed it, and cart path repairs. These things have brought this course back to a course that should be played by golfers of all level. The course is a tough course that requires all types of shots and putting that requires you to hit the greens in the right spots to score. The greens roll true at pretty quick speed. The pro shop staff is GREAT! Very welcoming. Go enjoy yourself and have fun.
Improved
I have played this course several times and they are doing a good job of getting it back into better shape. It is a challenging course from their senior tees almost 6000 yards. Only complaint is that their new greens are hard and we had many shots that hit the green and went off the back of the green. Greens were fast and are challenging.
Continuing Improvement
Greens nice. Fairways nice. Thick Rough - lost balls we watched roll into the grass. Pace of play always been an issue here but was a lot better this round. Overall good course and will definitely be coming back.
Pretty Good
Course was in great shape! Their greens are really good. I really enjoyed it.
Great Columbia course
This was the third time playing this course in the last couple of months and I have been happy with the layout and condition every time. They have several unique holes that makes this course difficult and fun for a new player. I will be going back for many more rounds.
We had a fun day on the course
This course was a pleasant experience. We had a mix of new golfers and some that knew how to play and the course was fun for us all. Greens were nice condition but challenging enough with some good hole placements. Enough of the fairways were open so it didn’t hurt too bad if you didn’t play straight. Not a long course but that worked well for our group. Staff was super friendly! We had a great time. Thanks
Thank you for reviewing the course. Your feedback about the price of our course is important to us. We always want to make sure we are offering golfers a competitive price for their round. It is our goal to give visitors the best chance to get out and play more. Thank you for playing Northwoods Golf Course. We hope to improve tee box conditions and see you again soon.
