Northwoods Golf Course
About
Northwoods Golf Club is one of the Columbia area's premier public courses. P.B. Dye, son of renowned course architect Pete Dye, designed the layout, incorporating some of his father's signature features. The golf course is player friendly enough to appeal to any skill level but there are some challenges in store as well. Mature trees line most of the fairways and there are a few strategically placed bunkers that come into play. You won't come across much water on this golf course and it's not terribly long either. It's gentle enough for beginners to approach with confidence. The golf course's signature hole is the par-4 14th, which features the famous Dye railroad ties bordering a lake that hugs the bunkered green. Northwoods G.C. also offers a practice facility with a lighted driving range and putting green.

Don't Play
90% of the greens are just painted dirt/weeds. Pace of play was horrible at one point on 12 and 13 we had 7 groups. Fairways we ok, traps we great surprisingly.
Bad bad shape
I’ve played this course 20+ times and have never seen it in this bad of shape. I would never want anyone to play when the greens are pure mud no grass to be seen for miles. And not to mention be put behind a dog fight of a bunch of 5 somes makes for a horrible round. Nope looks like I’ll be finding a new course. Not worth a dime to play
You get what you pay for
Course use to be nice a long time ago. Now, I don't know what happened. I only play there as a last minute choice. Greens cannot be called greens...
OK
This course is OK. It has improved. But was wet in winter time condition in February. The person checking us in was very cordial. Lady working in their snack bar was very quiet and unfriendly.
Course greatly improved
This course has made some great improvements in its quality in the last 2 years. It was in good shape for being winter. A few greens were mostly rolled mud instead of grass, but still played well. Would played this course again. Love the layout.
Slow
Terribly slow. No ranger to maintain pace of play.
Beautiful layout, Friendly staff!!
I was in Columbia for a few hours and decided to pull out my sticks. This course was in great condition for the most part, the staff was friendly, and the pace of play was awesome! I can't wait to come back!
Northwoods NIGHTMARE
Northwoods has recently put a great deal of money into renovating their course and to their credit, it definitely shows. However, making money back on an investment is no excuse for overbooking or allowing groups of 5 (I counted 4 groups of 5 on the course on this particular day) to play together. My round of golf with one other person took in excess of 6 hours due to these conditions. When I brought this to the attention of the attendant in the Pro Shop, he said that it was GolfNow that allowed the course to get this crowded and also was responsible for allowing groups of 5 to be able to play together. This is simply not true. And personally, I am offended that this gentleman would throw GolfNow under the bus and not put any of the blame on the course itself. I will not be back to play this course again until these policies change. In the meantime, I would highly recommend that GolfNow do the same.
Good value
Went out at 10:30am and the tee boxes were very wet and muddy, and it hasn't rained all month so it was the sprinklers over watering.
Nice course! Great value!
Played this course for the first time a year ago and it was good then but now it has greatly improved!
Definitely will be in my normal rotation!
Hidden Jewel
This course is very challenging and the greens are gorgeous! We will be back!
Getting better
Gets a little better each time I go. Several years of neglect will take another growing to overcome. Couple gimmicky Dye holes but overall good layout.
Course is in great shape. There were only a couple holes towards the end of the round that are needing some attention but not bad by any means yet. The one thing that seems to be an issue is the pace of play. We had a group of 4 in front of our 3 that were taking forever on every hole, pretty much doing everything you’d hate for a group in front of you to do. Hit the ball 100 yards off the tee and then get down in the creek to look for their ball for a solid 10 min. Wait on each other to hit their ball before they even assess their own shot. Each time we caught up they’d look at us as if we were rushing them. So on and so forth. Not until they realized we were legitimately upset did they let us through. At that point everything was great. Definitely will go back.
Good and Bad.
This is a very good looking course, too many trees in the way, fairways tight and in average condition. Greens are fine and average in difficulty. The problem I have is if you are even a little off on your drives, it's going to be a bad day! My recommendation, if you are driving the ball very well, this is the course for you. If not, try a more open course.
Weekend golfer picks a winner
Wow, what can I say. The course layout is great, the staff was great, and the beverage cart was everywhere that day. Pace of play can always be a challenge as there are a few "short" holes that can back things up. Beyond that, you need to go out and try this location.
Much Better
Under this new Management, course has improved greatly. Enjoy playing here about four times a month. Only bad hole is #8. They've been working on this hole for months now. But overall I love playing at "The Spur".
Best value out there for early morning tee times. The staff is very friendly and the course gets better every month.
