Northwoods Golf Course
About
Northwoods Golf Club is one of the Columbia area's premier public courses. P.B. Dye, son of renowned course architect Pete Dye, designed the layout, incorporating some of his father's signature features. The golf course is player friendly enough to appeal to any skill level but there are some challenges in store as well. Mature trees line most of the fairways and there are a few strategically placed bunkers that come into play. You won't come across much water on this golf course and it's not terribly long either. It's gentle enough for beginners to approach with confidence. The golf course's signature hole is the par-4 14th, which features the famous Dye railroad ties bordering a lake that hugs the bunkered green. Northwoods G.C. also offers a practice facility with a lighted driving range and putting green.

Course in much better shape than when i played a year ago. I thought i would have not gone back, glad i did. Enjoyed the round very much
Big Improvement
Greens are getting a LOT better, fairways are also looking better- one more year of up keep and it will be back to its best days.
Ranger
The Ranger was useless, a 4 some was holding up the whole course and said or did nothing !!! We had to skip the 10th hole ! Then didn't see anybody the rest of the round !!!
Great for value just make sure there's not a tournament going on very slow play
Good value for the money
This course gets better and better. They need a little more work on the tee boxes and some better rough but the fairways are great and the green improve every time I play here.
Northwood - great course and price
Second time I played this course. Very challenging. A lot of the greens need work as it looked like some type of fungus was affecting most of them; not the entire green and the pins were placed in such a way you didn't have to putt thru the bad areas of the green.
Good for price
The greens had just been aerated two days before I played so they were not ideal but there was an advisory so I knew they would be that way. As a broke medical student I really enjoyed getting the hot deal price and enjoyed an early morning 18 very much. First time playing the course. I thought it was long, challening, and scenic with plenty of forgiveness for bad shots. The cart paths could definitely use some love due to tree roots. But they are definitely putting in work to maintain the course currently which I appreciated
Northwoods-The Spur
Good time fun course it was a little slow paced because they over booked for 8:00am. The greens have been in better shape before but it was a really good course for the price.
Always a good place to have a diverse round at the Pete Dye designed Northwoods GC in Columbia, SC. Prices are competitive and the staff is excellent.
Add to you list for one that will require some accuracy yet open enough for all player types to enjoy,
Nice track
course was in good condition, a little rough (bare) near cart paths and under trees. many holes have character, a few are a bit quirky, with some elevation changes. a good experience near I77 for folks headed south.
Good course......bad groupings
Liked the course and layout. There were two groups of 5 golfers ahead of us........slowed down the play.
Best condition in years
Management has spent a lot of time and money to get this course back to its glory days. The course looks great... All of the fairways are in really nice condition and all but 1 of the greens are in good/great shape (you can see they are working on it all the time). If you don't play well it isn't because of the course!
It is well worth the money and the staff are always friendly...
Its just alright
Fairways are great. Tee boxes are okay. Greens are going away. Some of them are good other are horrible. If you are looking to play a quick round of golf, stay away from this course. Or just make sure there is no "dog fight" going on. The dog fight consist of numerous groups of 5 somes (some using 3 different tee boxes) who will not let you play through. Course is worth the price if you get the hot deal on golf now. The regular price of $40 probably not.
Enjoyed the course but didn't like the fivesomes.
I was surprised to see that 2 sets of fivesomes were playing in front of us. It slowed down play considerably. On a Sunday it really made for a long round. As crowded as it was yesterday that should have happened.
Greens are lost
Sorry to say the greens are in horrible shape. Every green had large dirt areas the size of a golf cart. Some greens had several spots like this and the roll of the ball was rough. Something, maybe a fungus, must have attacked all the greens. The fairways are coming in nice and greener. The tee boxes are very firm and had trouble getting the tee in. We were told they punched the greens last month but that didn't do much good IMO. Each green we would look around to see if the pin could have been moved for a better location but no luck! All areas of the greens were almost bare. You could see the black underlying dirt since the grass was so thin.
