About
Northwoods Golf Club is one of the Columbia area's premier public courses. P.B. Dye, son of renowned course architect Pete Dye, designed the layout, incorporating some of his father's signature features. The golf course is player friendly enough to appeal to any skill level but there are some challenges in store as well. Mature trees line most of the fairways and there are a few strategically placed bunkers that come into play. You won't come across much water on this golf course and it's not terribly long either. It's gentle enough for beginners to approach with confidence. The golf course's signature hole is the par-4 14th, which features the famous Dye railroad ties bordering a lake that hugs the bunkered green. Northwoods G.C. also offers a practice facility with a lighted driving range and putting green.

Wet Conditions
Course was extremely wet. It had rained a couple days prior and the course does not drain well. Driving range was closed and done greens were without grass.
Course is in pretty good shape - tight lies on the fairway still
Played a few days after a good rain and was pleasantly surprised that the course had some damp/muddy areas but less than I've seen in past outings. Fairways still not giving you much of a decent lie so you move the ball at times to a small patch of old grass to have a better lie. Greens were in good shape. Pace of play wasn't too bad either. Was held up by one slow foursome ahead of us for the first 9 but at the turn they headed in for a break and we played through so the back 9 was very open with little pressure from there (nirvana!)

When you hit you best shot, what can the course be?
The Course is the best layout in the Area. Challenging terrains, wind and the ability to get an Eagle or Hole-in-one. Got my first Eagle on hole no. 14. Definitely recommend the front 9 for play and the back 9 for a beautiful adventure & play. Ignore the out of bound and other areas outside the fairways post a down pour to position your ball, another challenge. A beautiful every week or day playing course.

Very wet 4 days after rain still a swamp. Bunker sand vey compact or filled with mud

Overall good
In pretty good shape for the time of year, unlike a recent experience recently elsewhere (the wood). Would play again soon.

Disappointing Course
I recently booked a round through the GolfNow app. Me and a few friends drove quite a good distance only to be met with a locked proshop. Upon calling the course number, the guy simply said we’re closed. When I asked about refund or rescheduling, the employee just said “get your refund back from the app you booked through”. I’m not sure if this is poor customer service and business management from GolfNow or Northwoods Golf Course but I’m less likely to use either again.

Course very soggy - cart path only all holes
I was out playing the Spur Jan. 24. Two days prior there was a good amount of rain and apparently the course was pretty saturated still when I went out. Golf range was also closed due to the wet grounds so no warming up beforehand. It was a bit of a colder day so not too many people out in the morning times which meant I had a pretty open and easy playing day with no pressure of people ahead or behind (woohoo). The greens were pretty decent but any low lying areas in the fairways were very muddy and many of the sand traps had water. Did a lot more walking given the cart path only restriction. All in all it was still good enough to enjoy the day and experiment dropping some extra balls here and there and trying out a different club and swing.

Great layout
First time playing here and really like the layout. Some holes really tough due to blind shots. But that makes it more fun. Not use to the brown grass though! Overall a challenging course and fun. Will be back

Best Course in Columbia SC
Best course in Columbia, best price in Columbia, best golf environment in Columbia, staff is very nice, you get treated like family.
Attendant from the barn were a little rude. Took so long to assist due. But the ranger were nice and approachable.
