Looking pretty at Fort Mill Photo submitted by Lewwwis on 04/12/2018
Perfect
Great course for any level golfer. Nothing tricky and pretty much straight forward. Always a great outing at Ft Mill.
Good course, slow play
The course was in great shape, greens were very good, tee to green was great. Too many walkers and course is open and easy to find balls. If you can't find your ball just play. Never hit second and third practice putts if you miss a close one. Would be a great course if the people playing let it be great.
Got a membership
Love this course so much signed up to become a member
Good course
Nice course with friendly staff. Early times are tough to get but usually wide open in the afternoon.
A joy to play
Best course ever. Love playing fort mill. Long course 5 to 5 1/2 hours to play if you stop at divets at the turn. Great food. Very friendly marshalls! I was thanked by a marshall 2 for reading the sign and treating the course with respected. Possible membership in the furture pending furture wifes permission!
Great Plan B Course
This was the third time I played the course in recent weeks and I really enjoy it. There are several courses in the Charlotte area that I actually prefer to Fort Mill, but of late those courses have not been offering the kind of deals that fit into my budget. As long as that's the case, I'm more than willing to fall back to Plan B and play Fort Mill. The course is in very good shape, the practice facilities are great, and the staff is very friendly. I like the layout for its diversity and love the Senior Member tees which measure almost exactly 6000 yards which precisely what this senior is looking for. I definitely recommend.
Great Course. Great Layout
Love how well the course is maintained and the friendliness of the staff. Would highly recommend this course to anyone.
Fantastic course
Great course cant wait to play the course again. Long par 4's and 5's
Enjoyable day of golf
First time playing course but it was in good condition and will play again
Nice surprise.
We played Fort Mill for the first time on Saturday afternoon at 1pm. My wife and I were nicely surprised by this course. No cart guys at the drop off, but the parking lot is fairly wide so not a long walk to the carts. Adding cart guys would be the 1 recommendation that I would make to the club. With that said, the guys in the proshop, the starter and the marshal were very friendly and helpful. The proshop was clean and well stocked...snack bar and lounge looked newer or remodeled and was very nice.
The course was in good condition with a challenge here and there but pretty forgiving. Fairways were in good shape...greens looked to be recovering from aeration but rolled pretty well...tee boxes were decent. We enjoyed the layout, far from boring. A lot raised greens to hit into...a lot of options on certain holes. We saw some comments about pace of play, but we finished in 3 hours flat on a Saturday afternoon. We were bracketed by twosomes, but it moved just fine.
We got a hot deal on Golfnow but we will be back to Fort Mill. Might not pay $62, but think it is worth $50-52 starting at 11am.
Fort Mill Golf Club
Had the opportunity to play Fort Mill Golf Club for the first time yesterday. It is a par 72 course that plays 6800 yards from the tips. They have 6 sets of tees, including 2 hybrid sets that combine various tees from both longer and shorter tee boxes. Personally, I like these types of course length options, and wish more courses would offer them. The front nine was designed by Donald Ross, and his fingerprints are obvious. Just about every green is raised above the level of the fairway. The back 9 was done by George Cobb, and he did a great job of tying in the Ross design elements while keeping the course very playable. Water really only comes into play on the 2nd hole. There are a few gentle doglegs, and a couple of pronounced ones. Elevation change is relatively minor, with most of it occurring on the back nine. Holes are in close proximity to each other, which makes it very walkable.
Tees and fairways were in great shape with the exception of the 17th tee. It was a little thin. Conditions were soggy from lots of recent rains, but overall good. The greens were on the slow side due to both the rain and they are on the very back end of recovering from aeration.
The pro shop and outside staff were very helpful. We saw a ranger a few times during the round monitoring pace of play. Slower groups let us through with no issues.
This must have been what the Caddyshack course was like
This was one of the weirdest experiences I have ever had on a golf course. First, I go to check in and the person at the desk informed me that our group had already checked in. Fair enough, but he said it with an attitude like I had just bothered him from doing something more important. "Okay, where do I get the cart?" (It was my first time at the course). "See the starter," he said. Again, very curtly. So, I go see the starter who again informed me that the group was already checked in. Okay, but I still need a cart. At that point, the starter began a conversation with someone else nearby, seemingly ignoring me for a moment and simply handed me the key without even looking at me. Finally, I got the cart and began my round. As we came to the green on the first hole, the cart had a very hard time climbing the hill, So much so that I had to pedal the ground Flintstone style to get it up the hill. I called the pro shop and told them what was going on and where we were. To be fair, the staff was extremely prompt in getting a new cart out to us (less then five minutes later). However, when the man came out to the fairway with the new cart he asked "this cart is dead?!" seemingly in disbelief since the cart had made it to the fairway of the second hole, which was downhill. My paying partner explained what happens, so We switched our bags out, but the staff member paid no attention to me even though I was the one that made the call to him. No apologies for the inconvenience, nothing. Fast forward to the back nine. Apparently there was a tournament starting not long after we teed off. For the rest of the round, we had to listen to the tournament groups being loud and at times belligerent. One group even brought their wives to the tournament even though they weren't playing. The wives were clustered in their golf carts being loud as we were trying to tee off one of the holes, picked up one of our balls that flew one of the greens (why would you pick up a ball on a golf course?!), and worst of all actually drove their carts TOWARDS US as we were teeing off on one of the other holes. Did it never occur to these people that they could be hit with a golf ball doing this? There were no marshals out on the course to prevent or curb any if this behavior, nothing. The best thing about the course was that it was in good shape even though the greens were still recovering from aeration. I believe in second chances and would be willing to give the course another shot, but I'd be lying if I said that I was not hoping for a better experience.
Pace of Play is a major Issue
Course is average and decent value for the price. Just don't expect to get 18 in under four hours. We played in a two some the entire day and a group of four took five plus hours to play and would not let us play through. This course, according to the Pro Shop, doesn't honor playing through when someone is slow. It is pretty much golf etiquette for a slow foursome to let a group of two play through but not here. If you have 5 to 5.5 hours to tie up playing 18 when it should take less than four then this is your course. Good luck.
Greens were recently aerated, but were satisfactory for play.
Great layout. Good condition.
Greens had been punched and sanded otherwise would ha be been great .
Great value
Great value for the course. Great place to bring mid to high handicappers. Excellent course to learn the game on
Disappointed
I would have expected a course that was established in 1947 and this time of year to be in better shape. The tee boxes needed grass on them and several fairways also needed grass. The 14th fairway was almost dirt. The practice green was great but the greens on the course were nothing like them.I will not be back.
