Looking pretty at Fort Mill Photo submitted by Lewwwis on 04/12/2018
A great public course
Have played here several times and really enjoy the course. The front 9 was designed by Donald Ross, which was a bonus. In great shape in spite of being a long hot summer, even the greens. A hidden gem in Fort Mill.
Excellent shape
The golf course is very well maintain and one of the finest courses in the Charlotte metro area. My only complaint is the pro shop manager was a bit of a jerk.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We're sorry that you didn't enjoy your experience with our staff and we'll certainly pass that along. Have a great day!
Great shape, with very few minor issues
Fort Mill was one of the best condition courses I've played in the area - compared to Skybrook, Emerald Lake, Eagle Chase, and a few others in the area. The bunkers had super soft sand despite some gravel, greens were in great shape minus around 3 holes with dead spots, and they were running fairly quick (albeit grainy). It looks like they hadn't moved the cups in a few days, due to the burned out edges. The layout was very fun too - with the only weakness I'd point out being I believe #12, which is by far one of the hardest par 5's I've ever played - requiring a forced draw or a sub-250 drive from the tips, followed by a 200+ layup to have a chance at a wedge in. I would put it on par with Tillery Tradition and Deer Brook, but being much closer to Charlotte than either. Very walkable as well. Played in just under 3 hrs.
Thank you so much for the kind words, Charles!
We actually are considering removing some trees on the left side of #12 to make the tee shot fairer to all golfers. No final decision has been made at this time, but we do appreciate your comment about that particular hole.
Have a great day!
Good Course for the Money
Fun course, pretty challenging, definitely worth the money.
Thanks for reviewing us, Allen! We're happy to hear you had fun on our course. Hope you come back soon!

We're glad to have given you a bit of a challenge! Thanks for the 5 star review, Shawn!
Must Play In Charlotte Area
Ft. Mill is a classic old school course that is a pleasure to play. Difficult enough to challenge the most skilled golfers while being playable for all. The first three holes are some of the most difficult starting holes on any course. Survive them and settle in for a bit of relief over the next two and then back on the roller coaster for the next couple of holes. Beautiful mix of tough and playable will make you want to come back for more. Staff is fantastic, conditioning is excellent, and the course is beautiful this time of year. The view from the clubhouse deck enjoying a post round beverage is 270 degrees of golf holes. Really fun to watch folks finish on 9 and 18 and make a wager or two on which of them will be closer to the hole. Greens are perfect after healing from the aeration in early June and make putting a real pleasure. Trust me, make the trip to Ft. Mill if you haven't played it before and definitely come back to see it in peak condition.
Thank you so much for your 5 star review! We are so happy to hear all that you have had to say about our course and appreciate you taking the time to review us and let other golfers know what to expect from our course. We hope to see you back for another round soon!
Worth it
First time playing the course and this is now in my top 3 favorites in the Charlotte area.
Glad we've impressed you! Thanks for your review. Hope to see you soon!
Bumpy greens
The greens had been aerated 2 weeks ago and had not filled in fully. The tees and fairways were nice but the greens were still healing. Don't play until end of June, by then the greens should be near perfect. The fee of $45 was about twice what it should have been for greens of that quality. I won't go back until July.
Thank you for your feedback and we apologize for the conditions of our course. As you implied, we do expect to be back in tip top condition by the end of June. Looking forward to seeing you in July!
Fort mill
Played here for first time and enjoyed the round. Greens were being aerated when I played so can't comment about that. Fairways a nice with good layout and length.
Thank you for the kind words, Sam! We hope you'll come and visit us again soon!
Scorched Earth
While this course is one of my favorites in the area, management waited far too long to water the course. Tee boxes and fairways are essentially dead. Greens were in good shape, but not great. This course is in desperate need of water, and I don't understand what they're waiting for. It'll be 90+ degrees and humid in no time. I fear that they waited far too long and the course just won't recover this season. The dry conditions don't make it worth the greens fees in my opinion. I'll return when I hear that the course has been thoroughly watered.
Thank you for the feedback, Christophe2296779. The grass on the course is not dead. We haven’t consistently had warm enough weather at this point for the Bermuda to grow. We have been watering, but again because of the cooler weather, the grass has not responded like it will in the coming days. Plus we’re getting rain now. Bermuda loves 90+ degrees and humidity. That’s what we want! We expect the Bermuda to come in beautifully as the weather warms up.
Good course, good value
Good course, good value. I would book again through Golf Now.

Great

Thank you for the feedback, Billstrix!
Last stop on a Masters trip
Played fort mill yesterday and loved it. Great layout nothing crazy everything is in front of you a true old style course. Good dog legs that involves more then just pulling driver out of the bag every hole. It's a course you have to position yourself around and I really enjoyed the round. Course was in great shape only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was they were slicing the course to help the Bermuda grow which isn't a big deal.
Top notch facility and if in the area I will revisit again.
Thank you for the wonderful review, Kboyan21! We're thrilled to hear that you had a great round with us and enjoyed all we have to offer. We hope to see you out here again soon!
A good walk spoiled
Great course nice layout and a super staff. Aeration going on so greens sucked but that is just the way it is. Sure summer greens will be perfect.
Thank you for the review, clniii! We actually aren't aerating at the moment but we do expect the greens to firm up as we move into summer. Hope to see you out here again soon!
Poor Condition
Course in poor condition and price out of line for condition. Have played much better courses in better condition during winter for cheaper.
We're sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your round with us, Mike2212178. We hope you'll come out again as the season progresses. Have a great day!
Nice layout
2nd time playing this course. Enjoyed the 2 nines built by different architects. Looking forward to playing when in season.
Thank you for the taking to leave a review, barnold427! We certainly look forward to seeing more of you!
Unfriendly staff, many better local courses to choose from
Very unfriendly staff, no employees staffing bar and grill. It was a very slow day and we were treated as if they wished no one was there playing rather than the few that were. Made us feel as if we were a burden on them. Guy at the desk was very aggressive and spoke to us in a manner that was very offensive and could spark an altercation with the wrong crowd? Haven't played this course in 15 yrs and won't be back again. Not a nice enough course to put up with the trouble, Lancaster and Chester are equal or better courses with a much friendlier staff! Edgewater is the best around with a wonderful golf course and a staff that treats you like one of their own! I play 2-3 times a week but Ft Mill won't be getting anymore of my $
Hi Theclintonsx4,

Nice Course
Came down from Ohio to visit family. First time playing at Fort Mill. The course was in excellent shape for January. Nice layout, elevated greens, could tell it is well groomed and maintained. Staff was very pleasant. We will definitely play again.
Thank you so much for the kind review and feedback, DanL545! We hope you'll play us again when you're in town.
