Carolina Lakes Golf Club

Played Carolina Lakes GC on a hot September Sunday (9/20/26) with my brother in law. I've played at this course many of times throughout the years since it first opened up. The pace of play was great with no one in front or behind us which was nice. We played from the blue tees which provided us the opportunity to use multiple clubs due to the length compared to the white tees. The good - tee boxes, fairways, bunkers and ruff were in good shape and well maintained. The bad - the greens were in terrible condition. Some of the worst conditions I've experienced in a long time. There was unrepaired ball marks on every green causing bald and bumpy spots around every hole/pin. It was like putting on a bumpy road, which was not a pleasant experience considering they charge $100 per round on a weekend. I don't mind paying that for a round of golf but I expect the greens to be in decent to good shape. To be honest the greens were in worse shape than a cheap municipal course. Even when you hit a chip from the fringe it would leave a ball mark and tear up the grass. I will not play there again until they fix or replace all of the greens.

The course was good except for the greens which were in bad shape. They were wet. They had 20 to 30 ball marks on each green because people did not repair their ball marks. The greens are getting damaged by this and making it hard to play. They were extremely slow.

The only thing that kept this course from being rated as excellent was the unwillingness of players to repair their ball marks.

I enjoyed the course playing it for the first time and did only play the front 9. The layout was very interesting and challenging with strategic decisions to made on every hole. The largest drawback were the greens which played very soft and slow. I do understand that they were likely overwatered for the summer heat.

I played as a single on a Wednesday afternoon. Pace of play was not an issue. This course is in the best shape, tee to green, of any public course I’ve played in the Charlotte area this summer. It’s not perfect, but I haven’t found a perfect public course yet. Yes the greens need a little TLC from ownership and players need to repair their ball marks, but I didn’t find it made a big impact on my enjoyment of the course. I drove an hour to get to the course and I look forward to doing it again. I will return soon.

Have played Carolina Lakes many times. Layout is straightforward. Tee boxes, fairways and traps in great condition - but the greens... unfortunately mediocre at best. Not smooth at all. Routine to see putts wobble sideways and/or hop while rolling towards the cup. Not from standard ball marks or shoe spike marks, but from the overall rough surface. Need to topdress and roll the greens ASAP - perhaps the heat this summer has prevented it.

This course was very well maintained. Greens were pristine and rolled true. Challenging yet enjoyable course!

Course is well taken care of. Tee boxes easily the best I've played. Nothing brown.

Great fun and value!

A challenging layout, interesting and varied golf holes with steep elevation changes, dog legs and lots of water holes. Greens were very good, the ball ran true, but not always easy to read. Fairways were in good condition and bunkers consistent.

Half way grill and bar was welcome.

Love the course lay out and fun of this track, but ran into an unfortunate issue when I brought my spouse to ride along with me...I have always just paid the additional rider charge for her, she love to be out on course with me. Not this time they stated they were short on carts and although they were frustrated and stated I should have rotated that on the website which I did not notice there was a spot for that. So had to send my wife back home....I've never actually experienced that before and the kicker was walking to the starter they sent of a three some in front of me with one cart having a single rider. Still love the course and everyone you end up playing with are awesome people.

Overall conditions were average, tee boxes and fairways were great, but not one sand trap was raked, greens would have been nice, but it appears only about 10% of golfers out there fix their ball marks. My guess is most golfers out there cannot bend over safely to repair them. Pace of play was good on the front (1:45) and then came to a snail's pace on the back 9. Overall time of 4:35 on a Wednesday is never a good time. No ranger in site that day. Nice layout of a course. I may come back in the winter when its less crowded.
