Carolina Lakes
Great course, beautiful layout, and top-knotch golf carts. The staff was nice. They have a bar and kitchen. The food was pretty food. I would definitely play here again.
Been better if clubhouse stayed open till twilight hours or at least a cart person or water available on the course more then a couple places, but overall beautiful venue!
Love this course!
I really like this course. It has a lot of fairway and greenside bunkers, which I like. Also, some water hazards, which I like. And lots of hills. It is beautiful!! My only complaint is that I believe the greens had just been aerated and so it was very slow and very bumpy, but that is temporary.
Challenging golfer
Canal lakes is the old Sun City golf course been in existence for a while I play that course when it was first introduced play the captain choice on that course did not realize that that was the same course but overall Sun City is a senior of course at best has a lot of different angles not bad overall I think that the course has a lot of bunkers and that leaves you as an amateur golfer to make a lot of decisions based on what you think the yardage is I think they could do a better job of from the from the tee boxes telling you how close to sand trucks are in such gadgets the greens were terrible they just irrigated and we would not aware of that to pay that kind of money for integrated greens I was very disappointed overall I would not recommend the course of nobody for that price I think it's overpriced I wouldn't do it again unless the fees was 2 minutes late around 40 average 40 $60 and that's on the weekends perhaps they don't allow you to walk which I don't blame him but overall again I would rate the course that I would race the the course around about a three it wasn't very challenging I shot my best around even it with band irrigated greens I shot a 84 that's the best round I've had but again my script is putting and so I probably would have shot in the 70s if the greens was right but again I'm not going to play the course again unless it's some type of discounts and I think they need to let people know when they registering that they're irrigating the way I would have never played that course I don't play irrigated grades at all
Monroe Country Club: Not Worth Going Out of Your Way
Monroe Country Club is a course that, unfortunately, doesn’t fully deliver on the overall experience.
From a conditioning standpoint, both the tee boxes and fairways show noticeable deficiencies and are not maintained to a level you would expect. This takes away from the consistency of play and overall enjoyment.
The greens, however, are a clear highlight. They are in very good condition—firm, fast, and quite challenging, requiring precise approach shots and solid putting.
In terms of service, there is room for improvement. The overall staff friendliness could be significantly better, as the atmosphere tends to feel more unwelcoming than inviting. In particular, interactions with the marshal can come across as rather harsh instead of supportive.
The layout is fairly straightforward and doesn’t stand out architecturally. Given that, strong course conditions and a positive player experience would be essential to elevate the rating—but currently, those elements are lacking.
Beautiful Design, Friendly Vibe, and Solid Public Golf
Carolina Lakes Golf Course is a great example of how enjoyable a public course can be. From the moment you arrive, you’re welcomed by genuinely nice and friendly staff, which sets the tone for a relaxed and positive round.
The course itself features a beautiful layout with a strong mix of holes. It keeps things interesting without being overly punishing, making it suitable for a wide range of handicaps. The scenery is particularly impressive, with solid overall conditions and several visually appealing holes that enhance the experience.
While the course does have a few minor deficiencies in places, it doesn’t take away from the overall enjoyment.
Overall, this is definitely one of the better public courses in the area. A thoughtful design, enjoyable routing, and a welcoming atmosphere make it easy to recommend.
First time playing this course, enjoyed the layout. Course conditions were good for this time of year with the exception the greens have been punched. Would like to know that in advance.
Great Sunday golf with friends!
Great morning at the golf course. Staff all very friendly and accommodating. Burger kiosk after 9 holes is always a nice treat! Speed of play was good, course layout very interesting, with a few exceptional holes. Greens were in his quality. Maybe a little expensive, but will worth it.
Championship course
Enjoyed playing at Carolina Lakes, but wish I had played better.
For mid-March, the course was in remarkable shape. Greens fast and true, traps abundant, raked, and full of sand, tee boxes green and mowed.
Great location and availability.
Booked early tee time on Wednesday morning when all other courses mornings were already booked up to 3. Course was in good shape for this time of the year. Greens were a little hard but putted true. Bring your sand wedge as there will be plenty of opportunities to use it. Ill be b ack next week.
Best Layout in the Area
Carolina Lakes always sets up to be one of the Charlotte areas premier locations for golf. The amenities are exceptional, including the practice area and the staff is always friendly. If the course conditions are maintained and kept as they are now, this course is as good as any!
Pace of play was horrible…..2 hours and 45 minutes to play 9 holes. With a 1:30 tee time I only got to play 9 holes. Front 9 is long, but in good shape for time of year. Can’t tell you about back 9. Need a ranger to control pace of play.
This course was challenging, very hilly, but fun.
This course was more than I expected being a public facility. Was well maintained, and the staff was friendly. It was a big course with lots of terrain to play on. Definitely not a walker’s place, but best for a golf cart! Watch out for hole nine, which we called a bunker Sea!
Charged an extra tee time after calling 24 hours in advance to cancel
They charged an extra tee time even though I called 24 hours in advance to cancel one of our players. They said it needed to be 48 hours when the golf now app says 24.
Rude and unprofessional staff
Booked a tee time for four. Two players had to cancel when a child woke up sick, and they called me two hours before the tee time. When I arrived and explained, I was told I’d still be charged because it wasn’t within 24 hours — even though it was clearly out of my control.
They said the “manager” (who wasn’t even there) would decide later whether to charge my card, leaving me with a $200 “maybe” hanging over my head. When I mentioned I’ve played golf for over 30 years and never had this happen, one employee interrupted me with, “well I’m not sure where you’ve played,” and another added, “yeah, we’ll never let you back.”
Completely unprofessional attitude and an absurd policy. If this is how they treat paying golfers, I’ll take my business elsewhere — and others should too.
