Tough but fun
The front nine is moderately difficult; the back nine is murderous. Greens and fairways are in good overall condition and the staff are great aside from a pretty constant sales pitch. I'd like to pay a bit less but don't mind too much as it's the best in my immediate area.
Solid Round
Played here with a group of 4 Saturday morning and it wasn't until I arrived that i found out the greens had been punched earlier in the week. There was no notification on GolfNow which would have been nice. Course itself was in good shape considering the lack of rain all summer but the tee boxes need some work. Other than the surprise with the greens it was a solid round. Pace of play was spot on and the staff was great
Excellent course at excellent value
Hello,
I just retired from active duty Air Force on Jan 1, 2015 and my wife and I moved from Florida. Waterford was the first course I played when I moved here in Feb and just fell in love with the course. It's extremely challenging, but very fair. It's a beautiful excellent course for all ages and all handicaps. I also aced my first hole-in-one on #8 in May. This will always be my favorite course in the Charlotte area. Excellent price is the bonus. This course is a hidden secret.
Greatly surprised
Compared to all other courses in this area, which have no grass to speak of in the fairways, Waterford is a pleasant surprise. Reminded me of the lower priced Myrtle Beach courses as far as condition goes. Layout was bland at times. Felt like just hitting one sot after another, but given how sorry the conditions are at all other courses I was delighted to be hitting off grass and not dried up turf.
Needs more work
Good news, carts are upgraded (still beat up though), driving range has been redone, bunkers have all been upgraded, the greens remain in good shape as they have always been even before the new mgmt.
The rest of the course needs immediate attention. The fairways, tee boxes, and rough are probably worse than I have seen them in the past 4 years. The course needs water!!!!! The tee boxes are brown and some are just dirt. Horrible! The fairways are dry and hard and have many bare spots. The rough is mostly dirt and hard pan. Where there is grass its weeds.
The course also needs a starter and needs to control walkers and singles on the weekend.
I am hoping that the new management will begin to pay more attention soon or I may just finally give up on they wonderful track.
Turnaround Forthcoming
Decided to give Waterford another chance after the whole Carolina Trail debacle a few years ago. At times they have struggled with effective management and it was evident everywhere on the course. Things have definitely improved since those days.
Course was Good+ condition, just a few things here and there would make it a better value. Tee boxes were struggling a little bit but they weren't bad. Fairways and rough were actually much better than I expected. Greens were in great condition and look to have held up well through the summer. The course and facilities have definitely aged a little (carts, cart paths, etc.), but seem to be holding up well. The practice facility was exactly how I remembered it (maybe they'll get some new range balls soon).
This is still a shot-makers course. Accuracy is definitely valued more than length. A first timer might have some issues here due to a lack of course knowledge, as certain shots/clubs should be avoided.
Overall I was very happy with the condition of the course. Everything seems to be turning around quite well. Hopefully they can keep it up and turn Waterford back into another gem for the Rock Hill/Fort Mill area.
good course to play.
nice course. Would definitely play there again. easy access off the interstate and this course is always in good shape.
