Golfer Reviews
Fairways still hard dormant Bermuda so no good lies in the fairway.
I like the layout of this course and the greens are in pretty decent shape although today they were not cut and were slower than normal. The fairways are pretty much dormant grass that is very thin and hard ground underneath. Frankly would rather be in the rough to hit from. On the plus side the ball rolls along way in the fairway.
They are to punch greens a week of March 6, so probably won’t be back for a couple weeks and hoping the grass begins to grow again before we play this course
Riverlakes
Greens are in great shape. Fairways will come back. Pace of play was awful this round. Usually not like this.
Poor course conditions
I have played this course more then a hundred times and the conditions on the fairways were poor at best and a lot of hard pan on the fairways. Sand traps were devoid of sand and were unplayable. Greens were in good shape but fungus was apparent on quite a few of the greens which made putting from parts of the greens a challenge. Riverlakes conditions have deteriorated to a point where we will not play this course again.Charging premium fees for the course conditions they had was not worth it. It used to be a great place to play.
Fun course
Good condition for the time of year. Greens were still in good shape and so were fairways. Fun time and surprisingly it was empty so pace of play wasn’t an issue
Best place in town for sure
Bakersfield best public
This is in my opinion the best public course in Bakersfield Does not have back and forth holes instead stretches out thru housing tract. Doesn’t have any funky holes all are very nicely designed. With large greens. Challenging but playable for all levels. I took a cart is walkable no major hills there is a few long walks between holes. 4 HC
Great course
The pace of game can be a little fast due to the fact that its always busy but over all a beautiful course to play. Had lunch at the clubhouse and the food was delicious.
Takes forever
If you’re expecting a 4 hour round as a single be careful. Weekends are 6 hour rounds. Tee times are spaced at 8 minutes apart and very few groups allow you to play through or join up. Lots of people who spend more effort pounding beers than golfing. No marshal on the course so carts are all over the place. Greens recently punched but course is maintained well. Very wet in the fairways but they are green. Not a bad course at all but someone needs to monitor groups and kick the drunks out.
River lakes
Great course overall really challenging lots of water
I’ll be back !
Had a great time playing this course. Wide open links. Very well kept. I was a single and had a pleasure playing with the other 3. Highly recommended.
Riverlakes
No water to drink anywhere on course. The 2 water jugs we saw were empty…at 1pm? Prohibited to bring cooler on course, meaning you would die of heat stroke, as there are no snack carts or course snack kiosks. Therefore, you must bring personal water bottles etc to get by. Greens/fairways good shape. Weeds have taken over tee box, so have to move around alot. Very slow players, so everyone behind is driving thru, eventually backing you up even further. Carts all have ripped seats. Sign of financial difficulties status post Covid, less $$ in peoples pockets etc. I’m guessing this course is feeling the pinch, as is Rio Bravo. Thankfully, Tee Off app made this trip affordable and worthwhile, or I wouldn’t be back.
Mud ball
Bunkers are trash. They are muddy even at the end of the round after the course has dried up. There’s 4-6” of water in the bottom of each bunker. And muddy spots in the middle of the fairway on multiple holes.

Charged me a higher rate than my online reservation.
