Golf instruction
I’ve taken three lessons from Luke Watkins the local pro. Luke makes learning your swing very simple and fun. Three weeks ago I could not hit an iron to save my life, yesterday I hit an 8 iron 150 yds within 20 feet of the flag.. it only happened once, but a few weeks ago this would have been impossible.
Great Experience!
I have been reading golf advisor for some time now but joined specifically to give this course kudos. Played today with a 12pm tee time (got off earlier though) and was finished in about 2.5 hours. Excellent! Pace of play is big in my book. Staff was very friendly. Course was in perfect condition. One par 5 was shortened to a par 3 while they repaired some drainage. I actually appreciated this rather than them ruining their hard work on repair.
Tee boxes were in good shape as were the fairways. Greens were spotless (not even a pitch mark went unrepaired). Greens were admittedly on the lower side (recent rain in the area) but that doesn't bother me although I know some take that into consideration. I'm sure they would have been quicker if not for recent storms. They still rolled true and the balls didn't bounce off line.
Lots of slope (don't recall too many flat lies) but that's what you get from a course with this much undulation. Course plays longer than the yardage on the card (played from the back tees). I liked the shot variety required at this course. Equal amounts of drivers, 3 woods, 2 irons and the occasional mid iron off the tee. Having a little course experience definitely helps here.
For the $35 odd dollars this course is an extreme value! I live on Hilton Head and I would be paying 3X that amount back home.
I saw a reasonable amount of maintenance staff around working on detail work (painting stairs, signs, mowing, raking, etc.). You can tell these folks care about their course.
Well done to the team and I will definitely be back. Highly recommend in the area.
What a gem
Awesome course with lots of elevation changes. The staff was super friendly! On my second visit, it started to thunder and rain on the third hole I went back to the clubhouse and to my surprise, I was given a rain check. Can't wait to go back highly recommend giving this course a try if you're in the area.
Great shape, SLOW play
Saturday morning rounds are typically a little slow. We started around 10am and didn't see another golfer until #8. Found out later that it was a business outing tournament. We were never told about this and the groups would not let us play through. If the clubhouse had mentioned that there was a group clogging up the middle of the course we could have started on the back 9 and avoided the almost 3 hour back 9. Course is in great shape. Greens are perfect! Just wish course would make some considerations when scheduling a tournament.
What a Gem
If you like elevation changes this is the place to go. Course is in great shape one of the best I've ever played. Fairways are wonderful but lots of straight up and downs. Greens are beautiful but a little slow due to hot weather. Don't be fooled by the yardage play the tees you need to and not the yardage it plays a lot longer than you think.
Excellent course for the money you pay
I always purchase the hot deal for this course and usually pay around 16.00 to play a full round. If you struggle off the tee you will shoot a high number due to the course layout. The fairways are tight and change elevations frequently. Its much wiser to keep driver in the bag on many of these holes and put it in the fairway with a club you are comfortable controlling. The greens are challenging but they are always in excellent condition. Highly recommend for an intermediate and above golfer.
TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE
Upon arrival the extremely rude lady tells us that the back 9 i's closed, just making conversation I ask why. Her response was because we want it to be. Temperature was 93 and they had no water on the couse nor did they have bottled water like the use to have outside clubhouse. Glad I packed some myeelf. She proceeded to tell me if I wanted water then I wold néed to come off the hip with $1.25 which shouldn't be a problem since I got the hot deal off golfnow. The course was in good shape and there was nobody else out which now I see why. If you are planning on playing soon BEWARE. As for me I will NEVER be back.
Excellent course and great food.
The course is in great shape with excellent yet challenging greens. Fairways are tight on some holes and in very good condition. A must play golf course if you are in the area. Also the food at the grill was excellent
Great day with Brother
Due to family issues, I have not played but 5 times in 2017. This was the first at Chickasaw in at least two years. There have been a lot of chages in course condition and all for better! Fairways were excellent, greens real good with only few weeks since ariation and T boxes were real Good! Layout is challenging but fair, take extra club and enjoy how quite and relaxing the course can be. The weather was beautiful and other than the outright rudeness of AM Pro Shop person Fantastic day - highly recommend play this course!
A BEAUTIFUL COURSE WITH GREAT PEOPLE
Had never played this course before, and we are sure glad we did. Great course lay out, excellent greens and fairways. Tight and challenging! I will play this course everytimge I am in this part of South Carolina. Great place to eat lunch with a good variety of offerings. Don't miss this place!
Chickasaw point
Very beautiful course. lots of Wildlife.greens are very smooth and very fast.you have to be accurate with your drive. Very challenging course.
Nice course
Had a good time. Grass sparse at times in fairways. Greens very nice , fast & true. Very hilly, challenging course!!!
A good challenge
Playing from the blue tees quite a challenge for a good player. Not having played the course before, you don't know what club to hit off the tee's; and on the front nine driver is only needed on about 2 holes. You need a precise tee shot, as the sloping fairways sometime put your ball in a precarious spot for your second shot. The back nine is more forgiving to pull the driver and pound the ball down the fairway. The greens are immaculate and the ball rolls true. But beware of downhill chips and putting. Bring your A game and be prepared to lay up for your second shot of 150 plus. Excellent course will be returning for another challenge; as I believe you get better and better each time you play it.
Golf and Views
If you are looking to play a course with up and downhill lies, as well as side hill lies then this is your course. I enjoyed the much different golfing experience from the Charlotte courses I usually play without much elevation changes. Loved the greens too. Looking forward to play this track in the summer.
