Needs re-design
The best part of this course is the putting surfaces. From there it's all downhill. There is no first cut and no primary rough. Consequently a drive down the middle may continue bounding and rolling whichever way the slope goes - sometimes 40 or 50 yards off the fairway. The 2nd hole green is so severely sloped from back to front, the ball will not stay on the green unless it is within 10 feet of the back, and the hole MUST be back there all the time because of this. There are several greens with similar slope that make large portions of those greens unplayable. (See video of 6th hole 2023 NCAA d3 women's championship. Stupid pin locations on overly sloped greens). Sand traps have red clay sand with lots of rocks. There is on-course construction on 9 and a couple of other areas, but several green complexes need full re-designs. There is no irrigation other than greens so everything is rock hard and crazy wild bounces and runouts occur throughout entire round.
A lot of improvements
I have played this course a half dozen times before and was pleasantly surprised at the improvements since the last time I played it which was December. After gwtting my clubs on the cart,I walked up the brand new concrete steps leading to the clubhouse and entered on new wooden steps and a new deck. Once I got onto the course, there were several new tee boxes leveled and sodded and several othe boxes construced . Also, the 9th hole was closed and made into a par 3 due to the demolition and construction of most of the hole. Well overdo as this was the worst hole on the course.
Amateur golfer
I was very disappointed in the fact that we did not know before we had made reservations that the greens have been irrigated in that overall the courses in great shape I love the course real friendly cars but I think that some kind of way we need to make sure that when we're booking that we know the conditions of the course if there is changes being made or not to know that the greens are irrigated and there's no the fairways was hard and not in so overall I mean I was still play the course I love it you know but again I was just disappointed and the fact that had some friends to go with me who had never played it then they were disappointed in my selection overall
Overall
Well oh wow great course great condition they're really doing a great job of making a course playable I would recommend this course as a starter for most amateur golfers in offers all the challenges overall I'll play that I will play it once a week if I could to get ready for someone to swallow courses some of the holes are very very difficult especially the greens but again great job keeping things moving in right direction
They HATE GolfNow
Went for a tee time with my nephew. When I checked in, the guy was nice enough. He said we were playing with someone else, which is fine, but they weren’t ready at tee time.
At first, he said to go ahead. When we teed up on the first, he came running out saying that we HAD to be paired with someone. We had to wait around for the other twosome to get situated, and didn’t get out u til 15 minutes after the tee time.
Play of course was slower, but had a good time with the twosome. I say all in all…average experience. Don’t go out expecting to not be paired up with another twosome though.
Nice course to play
My wife & I enjoy traveling around the state & spend the day together doing something we can enjoy. Golf is one that we try to do every few weeks. This was our first visit to this part of SC in her life & mine in probably 40 years. The staff was very helpful & friendly showing us where to go & came around asking if we had any questions, concerns & enjoying ourselves.
About the course, it's very playable with some easy holes & strategic ones. You should be aware that many greens have false fronts. More than a course should have in my opinion. I not as skilled as I was 20-30 years ago & if I hit a green on my approach shot, I don't want to see it coming back at me, forcing me to chip after hitting the green. Still enjoyed our day here & look forward to coming back again.
Bang for buck!
Good course can tell they are doing a lot of work but the greens roll nice definitely check it out!
Fun Course.
Overall, I enjoyed the course. There were two holes that were weird, to say the least. Other than that, the rest was interesting and fun.
Course is in great shape
Spring Lake has only improved year after year since I moved back to the area.
It’s gone from an affordable practice option, to a great value with consistent greens and vastly improved fairways/tee boxes. Some of the tees can still use some work, but that’s just about everywhere with the lack of rain we’ve had
Best Course for the price
Only complaint I have which actually could be very serious. There were all of spots where there were wasp nest. Hole 1 on the fair way. Hole 2 on the tee off area. There was another hole I can’t remember it was close by trees. All on the ground. I will be sure to take pictures next time
