16th Hole from the teebox Photo submitted by djapes on 04/02/2015
Where's the hole?
Booked tee time through golfnow.com and saved 50%. Had to have golfnow.com talk with proshop to verify payment( a little annoying). Played on a CHILLY/Windy day but scenery and course were beautiful. Course/Fairways were still a little rough from rainy summer. Greens were in good shape about medium speed. Bunkers varied wildly from powder to hardpan(pay attention/be careful). There are a lot of blind shots on this course as you would expect from a course built in the mountains. Got turned around going to and from a few greens to tee box. Could use some signs for direction. Lost a few balls, found a bunch! LOVED the gps built into carts. Should be standard at all courses to speed up pace of play. Even with the wind/chill had a good time and will be return.
This course is picturesque but in very poor condition.
Course is in very poor condition due to excess rain followed by a 30 day period without irrigation, Irrigation pond was damaged during the rainy period. Staffing was nonexistent. One young lady was handling the pro shop, grill area and was also bringing up carts from the barn. I'm sure the groundskeepers are trying hard to bring the course back to an acceptable playing level. I'll give it another try next year. Best courses played this year are Cherokee Valley,(Travelers Rest, SC) Woodfin Ridge (Inman, SC) and The Preserve at Verdae (Greenville, SC)
Disappointment
We were so looking forward to playing Reems Creek as we have thoroughly enjoyed the course in the past. The course is in very poor condition. Other than the views, we were very disappointed.
Going the wrong way. Warrior needs to sell out or close the course.
I am a local player. We are very disappointed in support the greens crew is getting from Cal. In no way does it justify what they are charging. Hope things improve and the staff gets what they need to get the course back in playable condition. staff says golf now sets green fees.
Have a young girl and two teenagers running the course on Sunday--big mess.
This is a technical course.
We all liked the technicality of this course. It's a challenge to break 90....particularly when off the fairways. Greens are "rolly" but in good condition. Fairways were recently aerated ...in progress!
I cannot recommend this course at this time. It needs considerable time for healing.
There is little grass on the fairways or greens. The value rating was based on the fact that we had the Hot Deal. It is sad to see this course, once a veritable carpet, in such bad shape. We hope to see it return. The setting is wonderful and the layout is interesting.
Horrible condition
This course used to be one of best in Western NC. Fairways are horrible, greens have lost most of grass, overall conditions are among worst I have seen. I would not play this course again unless conditions dramatically improve.
If it ever stops raining, it'll be great!
Reems Creek is probably a terrific course, but it -- like every other course in the area -- has been battered by record rains. The most obvious damage is between the 10th and 18th holes, where an irrigation pond has been compromised and drained. There are also low spots in fairways that have been lost, but that should recover when things eventually dry out.
The greens were mostly saved (enough so there are reasonable pin locations on every hole) and the tee boxes are fine. The course still plays as intended (the staff moves the tee boxes up a bit to compensate for the soggy conditions, which I think is the right thing to do). I live nearby and plan to return many times.
Unique course with challenging greens
I have played Reems Creek a handful of times over the last 2 years and until late July of 2013, thought the course had some of the best conditions around WNC/Asheville. I will simply mention this is no longer the case, presume the unusual volume of rain we have had this summer is the main culprit, and proceed with my review as if I had played in May.
Reems Creek favors placement over length. The ball carries well, and even from the manageable tips...driver will rarely be required. There is significant elevation change throughout the round, greens are fast and undulated, and approach shots are often blind(ish) and elevated. A terrible golfer would likely struggle at Reems Creek but the course remains a fair test for all skill levels. There are few forced carries and plenty of room to miss; once the course has been played a few times. Reems Creek provides variety and just pure fun factor despite a growing number of imperfections, and is comparable to most courses within an hour of Asheville. 6/10 but a potential 7.5.
Nice views, challenging shots
Course was in overall mediocre condition due to all the rains we have had this summer. Not too long but requires accurate shot placement on many holes. Fun place to play in the mountains of Asheville.
Needs a lot of work........
I've played this course a lot over the years and, unfortunately, it's in pretty bad shape right now. We've had a lot of rain this summer so the out of control rough is something I can deal with - can't cut when it rains just about every day. The greens and fairways though are about to be a total loss. I'm not talking about a bare spot here and there - you have entire sections of fairway that are nothing but mud. Greens that are browned out and streaked with fuel marks. I know this is a business but it would probably be in their best interest to just shut down for a couple of weeks to make repairs.
Warrior golf is about as low as it goes for golf course ownership and/or management
Course is not maintained well. but this is a warrior club trait. I think the staff does as well as can be expected with the constraints warrior places on them.
Great course. Good value
Great course, good value would play again. Friends really enjoyed playing a mountain course.
Entertaining to play.
I thoroughly enjoyed the course. It had experienced a lot of rain and was therefore difficult for the grounds crew to attend to cuttings with all the heavy rains. The greens were in terrific shape. I played from the tips and found there were a lot of blind spots and a driver could not be used on many holes. Course management and Placement off the tee was key to having a good round. One of the ponds was drained and unsightly. Sand traps were in need of repair, but the rain caused most of the damage there. Driving range was in good shape and the staff were friendly and cordial. Food was good too.
Great features and scenery.
Great features with lots of elevation changes. Fun to play while challenging at same time.
Course has taken lots of damage due to rain.
Course has problems due to wet conditions and looks as if
additional problems was caused by ponds washing away and it is clear that have not been able to maintain due to wet conditions.
Nice people... Goat track
Course is in horrible shape. Terrible greens. Fairways r just weeds. Bunkers r dirt and rock pits
Great elevation changes
This course is a great track but due to heavy rains this summer it was very wet and required cart paths only. Still very enjoyable though.
