Black Mountain Golf Course

Course was fun to play. Two main critiques: pace of play was slow, especially for a weekday. Also most of the tee boxes were in terrible shape. Would probably only go back for a discounted price, I don’t feel the course is worth it’s normal full rate to play.

The course was in bad shape…..fairways and tee boxes are in bad shape and greens are mediocre at best

Tee boxes need work.

Fifth hole was shortened to a par 3. The tee box could be set back to make it a par four.

This course has recently opened all 18 holes following hurricane Helene, so there still is work to be done. On the front nine, there’s some work to be done on a par 3 and a couple par fours that are not only very wet, but seemed to be unfinished. It was somewhat confusing, but playable. They have recently aerated, and we knew that, so I’m not gonna hold that against them. Scattered tee boxes and bunkers need some attention. The majority of the fairways are in good shape. Nice gas carts, no GPS. A few challenging and quirky holes. One long par 6 that was interesting. The greens were recently aerated. so we’re unpredictable in some areas. A few need some attention; however, mostly puttable. The pro shop is nice. appears to be new. The staff was very friendly and helpful. No driving range, just a chip and putt area. It was not too busy, so pace of play was excellent. It was a gorgeous day, and we enjoyed our round and would definitely return. **note to solo players-my observation , you can expect to be paired up with other players is the standard , so don’t fault the course and leave a bad review. If the course is busy you may not be able to fly solo.

First couple holes holes have not fully recovered but balance of course was enjoyable and challenging. I will definitely play again on my next trip to the Black Mountain area. The Par 6, 17th was fun.

Natural Hillside landscape design with rolling fairway and quick green. They are back in business as a must play.

Greens nice. Tee boxes needed some work. Some of the rough areas are overgrown and some of the Tee shot are blocked by tall weeds.

But overall the course is playable.

They’re still recovering from the hurricane, but the nine holes that you can play are very good. And you can always play a different set of tees the second time around. Enjoyed the round!

The front nine has not been re-opened since Helene, but the pro shop says that it should be fully open soon. The course is maintained well, with tee times spread out so you can make the turn to play the back nine a second time easily. The cart paths need some work in places, but not too bad. Greens were in good condition with a couple of greens needed some significant work.

I am very disappointed in the experience I had with this course. I was in town for 3 days and wanted to experience mountain golf since I am from the coastal area of NC. I went to the course and personally made reservations for the next day and stated that I am playing solo, so far so good. The next day I showed up 30 minutes early and found out they do not have a driving range but they offered me the chip and putt area. The clerk understood that I was playing solo so I paid for the round. It was after I paid he told me that since I was playing alone that I would be forced to pair up with two complete strangers. This is the first course that has ever sprung this on me. I have limited time, like to play alone to work on shots and had no desire to be paired up with possible hacks chasing balls all day. I gave them the benefit of the doubt by going back to review their website for any disclosures regarding this practice and could find none. They did give me a refund but they wasted my time on the only day that I had for golf. Therefore, I did not get to experience mountain golf. Please beware of this surprise practice if you are visiting and decide to play solo.
