Beacon Ridge Golf & Country Club
About
Beacon Ridge Golf and Country Club, a Gene Hamm design on rolling, wooded terrain, opened in 1989. This well-maintained course has bermudagrass fairways and bentgrass greens.
Perhaps what sets Beacon Ridge apart from a number of other courses in the Pinehurst area is its variety. Just about every hole has its own character. The greens are mostly large and sloped. You will find adequate room off the tee, but if you miss the fairway, you’ll end up in deep rough and pine trees and might not find your ball. Play conservative and keep your ball in play.

Average at best
Played beacon ridge after playing pinehurst no 4 and no 2. This was by far my worst score. Snobby front desk guy. No chance of finding your ball if it’s not in the middle of the fairway (pinehurst very easy to find your ball anywhere on the property) At least the greens were good. In other words, just go play pinehurst.
Fairly Easy Course
First time playing here although we know the area well. The course was pretty wet but there have been lots of rain lately. Paved cart paths could use some refurbishing, but overall, the course was fairly easy and moved right along. Staff was incredibly responsive and friendly.
Good value
Nice layout. Good pace of play and nice staff. Conditions could have been better. It has rained the night before and several holes were wet and muddy. Greens were slow and hairy but not too bad. Still a good value though.
Not worth it
The poor quality of the greens caused ball deviation when putting. Fairways did not drain and were very muddy for no rain in a week. The tee time was also overbooked with 5 people. I
Great Day of Golf
This course is a gem in the circle of Pinehurst courses. The course is playable but sneaky long at 6000 yards from the whites. Many uphill shots to the greens requiring 2 extra clubs most of the time. Greens were in nice condition but albeit a tad slow. When in Pinehurst take the time to experience Beacon Ridge.
Scruffy course
Course layout was good, but course conditioning was poor. Lots of bare areas and a number of areas that were really wet.
Very friendly staff.
Paid $60 per person. At best, with current course conditions, this should not have cost more than $40
A Fun Course to Play!!
This course was fun to play!!! Rolling, very hilly fairways, smaller greens than newer courses generally offer with more challenging areas around the greens,, and lots of variation in the holes. The Sunday bermuda greens were a little fuzzy, but still rolled surprisingly well. We were welcomed warmly by the pro shop staff, Once on the course, the pace of play was good, and we just enjoyed an absolutely beautiful day with good friends on a throwback golf course that played like courses did a generation or two ago. Will be playing from time to time in the future. You need to try this hidden gem. It's different than recently built courses you play today, but that's a good thing in this case.
A ruined day
Played the front 9 in 1 1/2 hours. Made the turn and found the golf shop started groups on the back nine - but not just any group. We were on the par 5 10th hole for 1/2 hour and were still standing in the fairway waiting to hit our approach shots. Couldn't go around them and no marshal was to be seen, so we called it a day.
I went to the clubhouse, explained the situation, and requested a return of 1/2 the green fee. Rather than a refund and simple apology, I was informed that my group caused the problem because we played too fast. I was also told - through a form of math with which I am not familiar - that the group had a right to play at that speed because the pace would meet the 4:10 time for a round. I did the math for them: 18 holes at 1/2 hour a hole = 9 hour round. They continued to insist the group was on pace. So, my recommendation is to avoid the place, particularly if on vacation unless you relish being treated poorly and find the risk of missing a half day of golf appealing.
