Tough course with long rough
The course was in good condition; however, the rough was really long and was extremely hard to find balls in. We spent a lot of time looking for balls which was kind of frustrating. I would definitely recommend this course. It was a great deal!!
Great value.
Great course for the money. Course was in good shape and not crowded during the week.
Great Course
Course is in great shape and a great value for the rate I got. Call ahead on the weekdays and make sure there isn't a school tourney; I was caught in the middle of one. But the staff was incredible and let me flex to keep playing and get my money's worth. Great Course, outstanding staff, especially Jessie and Mickey!
A scenic course with active wildlife that presents a nice challenge to a golfer playing well but a sobering lesson to a golfer playing badly.
The course is nestled into a very scenic setting. It was in really good shape even though there were signs of recent repair work. The fairways were in good condition and well cut. The greens were a bit inconsistent in both speed and cut. The rough was flat-out punitive. I did not enjoy a good scoring day, but that was all on my lack of shot execution. I enjoyed the round primarily because the course was a reasonable test of my golfing skills, and the price that I paid to play it was phenomenal. I am going back as soon as I can!
Worth the Trip
Played the course on a Saturday afternoon. Paid $27 for an after 2 PM tee time.
Pros:
- Nice conditions. I think it was about 3 weeks after the greens were plugged and they rolled pretty smoothly. Fairways were good as well.
- Interesting layout; not overly long, but makes you think a bit and hit some spots. There are a couple of potentially driveable par 4's on the front that make for some interesting decisions. Reasonably open and fair.
- Very friendly people who seem to want everyone to be pleased with the experience.
Cons:
-The only issue I had was pace of play. Apparently there was a 2 person scramble that started early in the afternoon that had things backed all the way up into the front 9. My issue was that the marshal really needed to put some heat on people. There were some singles that refused to join up (who also liked to wait WAY too long before hitting their shots) and the marshal wouldn't force the issue. I ended up stopping after 9 when I realized my group was 4th in line for the 10th tee. After a 2:30 front 9, I didn't have the patience.
Too their credit, I was offered a full 18 hole rain check, which I didn't take, but really appreciated. I enjoyed the course and thought it was a great value. Looking forward to getting back and playing the whole course, just will make sure there isn't a tournament next time.
Ahhh, Summer in Memphis. The greens are running true, fairways are a bit fast, but all in all it is a good track at a great rate.
All in all this is a value course. This is a shot makers track where positioning is of relative importance on several holes. It can be very rewarding experience for risk takers who can shape their shots. Regardless of talent level, this course has something to offer to all who play it. The monthly two man scramble is a nice change of pace as well. As with most public courses in the Memphis area in July, this one could use a little water on a few fairways and rough. Go play it and decide for yourself!
Hidden gem!
Wonderful course to play, Can be tough if you aren't in the fairway.
Not your ordinary course.
Great topography--hills and slopes to challenge your abilities, well kept fairways, smooth rolling greens. one of the pretiest courses I've ever played on
The bugs will carry you away.
Only played three holes. The bugs were so bad you couldn't stand over a shot without getting buzzed.
Great course but the bugs make it impossible to enjoy.
watch out for the buds
Absolutely great course as far as course conditions, layout, and the staff was very accommodating. The only problem was bugs were so bad it was hard to take a shotin peace. Make sure you have bug repellent in your bag when you play here. Otherwise this is a very nice course.
This course is a great Sunday funday course.
Great challenge for golfers to come and test your skills with still some easiness for beginners. Great staff and friendly employees. Good price for the play as well.
Course was nice with a few issues.
There were a few holes that had pretty good amounts of GUR but overall a very good course. Decent greens which had just been sanded but for the money, I would recommend to anyone. Will definitely be back!
Middle of Nowhere
I would not go as far as to call this place a “hidden Gem,” but it is a good value for the price. The course is not in the best condition but the greens are pretty good, not too fast and fair. There are many elevation changes and some interesting layouts. The a couple of the par 5’s have hard dog legs so going for the green in two is very risky, if not impossible. A 235 yard par 3, even if it is downhill, is tough to reach with a fairway wood or long iron. The course makes you think for many shots and since it is "way out there," does not appear to be too busy. I work 20 minutes north of Memphis and it’s still a long hike from Millington…
Overall, I will play here again because the specials on GolfNow make this place pretty cheap…
This course is challenging yet approachable for the higher handicap player
I haven't played this course in many years, so when i came back last week i kinda knew what to expect. What i didn't expect was to see the greens in absolute pristine condition. Maybe not the collars as much, but the roll was so natural to the undulations and super fast. The course is in great shape. I took my buddy from Walls,MS and he told me to go ahead and book us for this week!
