About
Grand Oaks Golf Club enjoys a peaceful, tranquil setting among century-old oak trees and an abundance of wildlife. The course is as challenging as it is scenic with tree-lined fairways and small greens that will test your accuracy. It may have a traditional design but there is still some bite to this round. There are several strategically placed bunkers that lurk greenside to challenge you even further. Two meandering creeks weave along the golf course as well, coming into play on a few holes. The layout has a nice mix of holes from reachable par 5s to tough par 3s. Grand Oaks Golf Club is a fair test that is player friendly enough to appeal to players of all skill levels. There are some birdie opportunities available if you play it smart and it's forgiving enough for high handicappers to approach with confidence.

Has potential
Front 9 conditions were good but back 9 needs a lot of work
Rough
Had the back 9 closed due to rain which I think is pretty understandable, so we played the front 9 twice. It had just rained about 9 inches over the weekend, so the wetness was to be expected. But the greens were ROUGH, multiple near sand traps on the outsides of the greens and grass itself was very patchy and bumpy. Overall had fun though because of the layout of the course and nobody being there due to the rain helped too.

Hidden Gem
We could not get in early at other course and booked a tee time here ( it’s a mile from our usual course in GP) and what a find. Challenging course that’s in great shape. A few holes have been worked on and with a bit a sun and warm weather this course will be perfect. The staff was exceptional, attentive and over accommodating. Stop by and meet Kevin and his staff. You won’t regret playing this hidden gem.

Grand Oaks Golf
This is an okay course if you get a deal with Golf Now. There is a lot of hidden water that's not depicted very well on the map. Greens are fairly uneventful, and a number of them were pretty sandyy in spots. This corse could be so much more with more maintenance/upkeep

Great layout
The course layout was great lots of water. Would have loved to have more information about the distance to the water for a better club selection. But overall a great coarse.

Bad shape
Won’t play here again. Course is in bad shape and no good indication of hazards and layout.on the good side, staff is super friendly!

Nice layout
I liked the layout. My only complaint is the greens were pretty bad. Seemed every green had its own speed depending on what condition it was in. There’s quite a bit of small water hazards that requires you to use management off the tees. The trees along the sides of the fairways gives you chances to get back into play easily.

So much potential...
Overall, it was a great day to play golf. The sun was out, the wind was a little lower than it normally is in April in DFW, and the humidity was not bad for spring.
As always, the staff at Grand Oaks was very good. The beverage cart came around at least 3 times, and we saw the marshal at least twice during play and once at the start. Once some slower players stopped the clubhouse after the 9th hole, the pace of play was much better after starting off pretty slow.
However, and this is a big issue for me, the course was not in as good of condition as it was the last time we played shortly after the heavy freeze in this area in February. The greens are either nothing but sparse grass covered in a layer of sand, or a bad mix of poa annua and sand with little of the proper green left. The fairways were decent for this time of year,, and most tee boxes had decent grass coverage (though some could use a little leveling to flatten them back out).
I'd really like to see the course get their greens to a level of several other local courses who had the same issues with bad weather this winter but don't have compressed sand for greens. Bumpy greens that roll as fast as those at the Masters are not a good combo unfortunately. Even so, we'll probably come back because Grand Oaks is normally a solid value play.

Very Dissatisfied
Been coming to Grand Oaks for 15+ years and right now it’s in probably the worst shape I’ve ever seen. Usually one of my favorite courses but today was unacceptable for the price I paid. Not sure we will be back honestly, and may have to find another course to replace this one on our go to list.
