Grand Oaks Golf Club

Good course with open fairways. Not perfect but nice layout with a lot of water. Few bunkers to worry about. Played on a Hot Deal and it was worth it.

Nice design, fast greens but true. Fairways a little dry but normal for this time of year. Very helpful staff on what to be aware off (first time playing this course).

I have played the Grand Oaks course a number of times since it reopened and I am continually impressed by its very good condition in all sorts of weather. The club house also has been greatly improved as well. {only the parking area needs to be upgraded ]The club personnel are friendly and helpful and the price is very "cost-effective"!

First time playing the course, and am a big fan. The parking lot, and a few buildings are under construction, but the club house is great. When I saw the course, I couldn't wait to get loaded up and play. Most excellent value......

Without much rain course is lush fairways and greens, staff always treats us great! Nice cool clubhouse to unwind, great time!

Great shape for middle of summer. Great layout, not difficult but challenging. It will be even better when they finish their driving range. Good practice greens for chipping & putting. Not crowded at all. Golden little secret course.

This was my first time to play since the renovations. They have done some wonderful things for the course. They’re new clubhouse, although small, is fantastic especially compared to what it was. The course was in good shape, play was fast, the challenges are still there. It’s a smaller course so it doesn’t take all day to play. I recommend everyone give it a shot.

I have been playing Grand Oaks for years. I have seen the different name changes and management teams throughout the several bankruptcies it suffered as a country club. I have watched the course design evolve as well, and I am glad that it is finally in the hands of a good management team.

It is an old Don January Design, and though it shows it's age at times, it still shows the better sides of a classic Don January Design. There are very few of his courses left in the area. I think the Corinth Country Club is the nearest one that comes to mind, and it is still a private course.

Grand Oaks is now much more fun to play since the MAi Family took it over. I believe those were the same individuals who gave us the Thorntree Country Club, and King's Creek.

When they bought this one, it was still built "UNDER" the flood plane, so a good rain guaranteed the back nine would be unplayable. If we got a real toad choker of a rain storm,. the entire course would be unplayable for a couple of weeks. It's amazing that it stood the test of time. When the Mai Family got a hold of this bankrupt course on life support, they built up the fairways, and added a bunch of false fronts to the formerly tiny little greens. Next they slow;y began cl;earing out the excess trees, and the marshy areas left over from the years of neglect under the flood plane. When the city decided they were going to run sewer directly through the course, they shut her down during construction, and finished the rather massive overhaul.

The original January design is alive and well, but it has been improved upon in order to adapt the course to it's environs. I played on a very hot 103* Day, so the slightly baked fairways, had plenty of extra roll out, and at times I felt like Hercules. Sadly, the greens were also a little baked, so I saw plenty of bounce and rollout in that department as well. Even so, in this recent stretch of dry hot days, it is to be expected. At least I wasn't getting hammered for a ridiculous green fee, and watching several pars turn to bogey because of the concrete like landing pad for my wedge shots. That has happened to me at a few other courses recently---ones that are nowhere near as reasonable as Gran Oaks. Even good irrigation isn't enough ion weather like this.

The layout is fun, the staff is friendly, and today at least, the pace of play was excellent. Grand Oaks has been a grand tradition in my game. It's one of those courses that you remember because it's where you learned your game.

I love playing this course.water comes into play on every hole.You have to be able to keep your balls from finding water.It is not a wide open course.If you love to just grip and rip please bring extra balls because your balls will find water.No flat greens.This a old style course

Hot day greens were crispy..slick and fast. Need a water break..

Played GOGC for the first time last week. Invited by a friend. Older G.A. reviews had me concerned but I was pleasantly surprised. Fairways and greens were very firm and fast but this is Texas in the summer, thats what you get. Everything was pretty green and no bare or dead spots. Fun, old school layout. You can tell they are working on the course and the progress is good. I'd definitely go back.

Course is in good enough shape. Basically okay the same hole 16 times. Maybe bend a little to the left on one hole then on the right the next. Flat and plain.

This course has a lot of potential. The only complaint about this course is that it needs water. The tee boxes broke many tees trying to tee balls up. The greens were just as hard. No ball Mark's at all on greens. Would hit the front of green and roll to back or off the false edges of greens.

Love the look of the layout of the course, nice Big trees and not just scrub oaks. Could use pics of holes on scorecard to show where water is, cause hit good shots not knowing water crossed the fairway. Yes this was the first time playing here.

They definitely do a lot with a limited budget. Great greens, friendly layout and a fantastic staff
