Chippewa Golf Club
About
Chippewa Golf Club in Doylestown sits just a few minutes south of Akron. It's one of the area's most popular public courses. Opened in 1962, the golf course has a traditional layout that sprawls across rolling hills. The undulating landscape provides a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. Accuracy is key since mature trees frame most of the holes and the massive, contoured greens also present a challenge. If you can keep it in the fairway, there are some great birdie opportunities on the par 5s. Overall, Chippewa Golf Club is player friendly enough for all skill levels to enjoy with the exception of the treacherous 14th, 15th, and 16th holes. This trio, nicknamed the "Bermuda Triangle," will test the putting skills of even the best golfers.

Some hype; some shots
The course comes with a reputation hyping the backside's Devil's Triangle. Those holes take some good shotmaking and thought. The overall layout is fine, but there are better in the area. One issue that is problematic is that the greens do not hold well even when hitting shots from the fairway. The course's defense are the greens that run fast, but could be a bit more consistent. Brecksville's Sleepy Hollow has speedy greens, but the layout is much better.
Chippewa is worth a visit. After playing the track, it might be worth a return trip or other area courses might be more tempting. The course on the plus side is well maintained.
Great Course
You must put this course on your list of places to play. The course is in fantastic shape and was a pleasure to play. The layout is a good challenge for any golfer. The greens are in better shape than any course I've played this year, including Country Clubs. Don't miss out on this wonderful track. Enjoy!!!!
Closer than you think
I hesitated to drive to Chippewa golf course because it was located in Doylestown. I finally mapped it and realized it was only 25 minutes from Cleveland. So glad I did. Course is in great shape. Employees were very welcoming. Played 18 with a friend in 2 1/2 hours. Will definitely return.
Great Golf Day
Chippewa Golf Club allowed my Son-in-Law and I to play 18 holes of golf without being paired up with another couple. This was fabulous because I am just learning the game of golf and my handicap is in the high twenties. This gives me the opportunity to play at my own speed and capabilities without being pressured by other players as well as not aggravating and or discourage other players that would have been paired with us. The golf course was beautiful and challenging. Watch out for the Bermuda Triangle (Holes 14, 15, & 16). My son-in-law loves those holes for the extreme challenge of the game. For me – I enjoyed watching him play those three holes with only one over for all three. A majority of the greens have contour to them as well as being fast, so getting your ball to the green still leaves you a challenge to get your ball into the hole and make your par. ;o) I look forward to playing my next round of golf at Chippewa Golf Club!
Best Greens in the Area - Country Club roll
If you want an nice public course that gives you plenty of challenge, Chippewa is a good bet. The condition of the greens and fairways on this course are always excellent.
Greens roll true with a lot of undulation and they're fast. So fast at times you can miss the hole (putting) and end up well off the green. We played from the tips which makes this course more challenging. There are some holes you have to have a 230 yard carry from the blues.
Brad, the superintendent has been taking care of this course for many years and does an excellent job. So sorry about Don (the course pro that passed away recently). Don is missed by many.
You might say some of these greens are tricked up but with country club conditions and 9+ on the stimp, this course is a local favorite that gets a lot of play.
If you like food, try their Chippewa Wings - Best wings around, trust me!
Golf Chippewa, I'm sure you will not be disappointed. They have driving range too.
Always Excellent
Course as always was in excellent condition. Staff was very friendly. Starter even sent us out before the group in front of us since we ere ready and they were still trying to get checked in. Regardless of your drive, this course is worth the trip.
Course was in great shape
The course was in great shape. The fairways were nice the greens were excellent and the weather was beautiful!
Great course - great value
This is fast becoming my wife's and mine favorite course. The 3 challenging holes
(14-15-16 ) are very demanding, but the course is in fantastic condition and a pleasure to play.
A return visit is in my future
Starter was super friendly. For the most part the course is in front of you. Double line irrigation means the rough was also quite lush for this time of the year. Well water means they are always watering, as I saw them syringing greens throughout the day. The greens appeared thin but held approach shots and rolled very smoothly. Bunkers were well raked and manicured. We had to wait on nearly every shot but finished in under 4 hours. I really wish that I had not waited so long to play Chippewa GC
THIS IS A MUST PLAY
this course is absolutely phenomenal!!! this was my first time playing and I fell in love! excellent conditions, layout, and maintenance. It is essential to gain your strokes before the "Bermuda Triangle!" The 14, 15, and 16th holes will chew you up and spit you out!! playing these three holes in 3 over par is more than acceptable. If you are within two hours of this course, you need to male a point to play here!!
Nice, but nothing special
Well maintained, but overall a boring course. Not much character except for a few holes.
Stunning course
This course blew me away. I was stunned at the condition to be honest. The tee boxes were properly mowed! The fairways were lush, and the greens were perfect. The course layout is really great. Nice elevation changes with rolling hills make you rethink shots to hit and really gives the course a nice challenge. My only gripe is that we played behind an outing which made the round close to 6 hours. Granted, that was no ones fault other than the outing for slow play. I would recommend Chippewa to anyone just for the course conditions.
Overbooked
Last time we played they had a five some. We got a 7:11am tee time on Saturday to avoid that problem and the course had a group of eight who were late for their tee time. The desk said we would go off the back to avoid them. The starter put them on the back and said we would have to wait and play behind them. We were a twosome and it was open in front of the late foursomes, but the starter didn't offer to let us off before them even though they were late.
Beautiful well maintained course with terrible management skills. Put the almighty dollar in front of customer fairness.
Great course
Great layout in very good condition
Great track
Played the back nine, challenging and lots of character.
Nice staff.
Hey "TerryLong" thank you so much for the 5* review! We are glad you enjoyed the back 9! Come see us again soon.
Course continues to get better and better
First time this year playing Chippewa, love this course. From the back tees, several challenging holes, yet also some opportunities for birdies. Greens were quick but fair. Pro shop staff was extremely helpful and on-course personnel very friendly, as I played early in the morning.
Thank you for your 5 Star review! We are pleased to hear how much you enjoy our course. Hope to see you again soon!
Perfect Course
The course is in predestine condition. The bunkers were perfectly raked, the greens rolled smoothly, everything was just cut perfectly. The course has great parking and is located right off Highway 21. The starter and the entire staff were extremely nice and made me feel welcome even at 4:00 pm in the afternoon. My CHIP WINGS, which are their speciality, were perfect cooked and were amazing. The pace of play was great and the drive was worth it. Will definitely come back and let other people know what an awesome place this is in Doylestown, Ohio
Thank you for your 5 Star review! We are happy to hear that you had a great day with us. Thank you for your recommendation and we are looking forward to having you back!
Overbooked
A very long Sunday afternoon. After 4 1/2 hours, we quit after 14 holes. Waited for one or two groups at every tee. If I want a 6 hour round, I'll play Manikiki instead.
Hey "joehill52" we apologize for the pace of play. Unfortunately, the course gets busy this time of year and one or two slow groups can cause issues for everybody. We appreciate you coming out and hope to see you again soon.
Nice course, hard and fast greens
This course had a good layout with the back nine having a lot of elevation change. The greens were very hard which made landing the ball close to the hole challenging but overall a great experience
We are happy to hear that you enjoyed our course layout here at Chippewa Golf Club. Come back and see us again soon!
Great Course
Course was in excellent condition. I play a different course each week and this was in great shape. Such a fun course to play, excellent condition, excellent greens. Definitely coming back.
