Course in rough shape
The course was in pretty rough shape. The tee boxes barely had grass on them and it was practically concrete packed clay. It was extremely hard to get the tee into the ground. The fairways had large area of exposed clay and rock solid.
The greens were very slow and have seen better days.
First time experience
This course needs help, with out a big improvement players will stop coming.
Had a lot of fun golfing. Staff was great and very helpful. Only problem we had was that the dining room was not open, so we were unable to get anything to eat except for snack stuff.
Working to improve
Played here for years, new owners and starting to see improvements. The bunker have greatly improved as well as play ability is improving. The green still ha a way to go.
Where are the improvements?
Dear Mr. Dotson:
It has been a few months now since you gave the management company the boot. Why are the greens getting worse? We were told the greens would be back. There has been no aerification, nothing done by the new superintendent. Greens are worse than they were in the summer.
We members, and regulars, are so frustrated. Please help.
A Shame What Has Happened to this Course
As a former member at Rapidan, I was completely disappointed in the condition of the course and the price for 9 holes. The tee boxes are like rough and the greens are almost unplayable. Sadly this course is no longer worth playing!
Price was good, staff were very friendly and helpful
Overall probably wouldn’t go again. The fairways were covered in crab grass and weeds, roughs were dead grass. Greens were water damaged and dead so they were extremely soft. Bunkers had tons of weeds and were hard as bricks. The scenery was gorgeous, however I believe all the money goes towards improving their other course The Gauntlet. (Played there, it’s real nice) I would spend another $10 and go to Lake of the Woods next time.
Pleasant experience
Enjoyable. Only beef is that there was no water kegs on the course on a very hot, humid day.
Needs Help ASAP
Course is god awful. The “greens” are so dry and diseased it’s almost impossible to have a ball stick on one. Don’t even try to spin a ball, it won’t happen. The fairways are pretty poor as well - lots of grown up weeds and just overall poorly taken care of. The “teeboxes” are absolutely laughable. Most are compromised of dirt with a couple weeds sprinkled in. They’re also hard as a ROCK. I think the absolute worst part of it all is how understaffed the course is. I wanted to buy food and a drink at the turn (after a 3.5 hour 9 holes because there’s no starter) but couldn’t because there was no one inside to ring me up or take my order. Overall, don’t waste your money here unless you’re paying $20 or less. New Direction Golf Management doesn’t really care about your golf experience, they just want to make their money and hope you come back for more. Please for the love of god do not ruin Meadows also.
Father's Day Experience
It's hard to judge any course on a holiday, and Father's Day is a pretty busy one for any course. In this case, they ran out of carts, which compressed the early afternoon tee times and caused a log jam of golfers. The experience was overly crowded and less fun than it could have been. Rolling hills were interesting, but given our inexperience with course and crowd level, was constantly worried about blind shots over the hill. Course layout contributed to that, with several holes crossing one another on the front nine. Greens were exceptionally fast... Someone likened it to putting on the cart path. Views of the valley were beautiful and hills were challenging. Would love to try this again on a day where crowds were less or cart availability was better.
Unforgiving!
Nice course, layout is good…. There are some challenging holes and a few “unforgiving” narrow fairways which made the course fun! Par 3’s play longer than measured distance…. Must be extra careful on the cart paths-follow the caution signs! I’m looking forward to my next visits!!
