New Management
I stopped playing Auburn under the previous management because those people were just down right rude. Since the new owners took over, what a difference. Very nice people, very accommodating with everything. The course stays in great shape and I now try to play there every week. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is that the water stations could be better maintained. If it's hot out they're empty, if it's not hot out they're are not empty but the water is warm.
Great course for the money
Played on a rainy Saturday, but course was still in great shape and played nice. Both tight and open holes, long and short. Very much a risk vs reward course. Will certainly be back many more times.
Great Shape
Been playing a lot of golf in the area and this course is by far in the best shape out of all of them. I'm looking to play this course again in the near future and hopefully several times this summer.
A must play
I recommend to anyone in the western portion of Virginia to go and play Auburn Hill. The Owners and staff are some of the best people you will ever meet. The fairways were in excellent condition and the greens ran smooth and true. The architect did a great job carving this course out of the rolling hills. If you are of fan of Pete Dye designed courses, though this was not one of his, it would have done him proud. A must play!!!
Beautiful course
Awesome layout and beautiful landscape , greens in great condition. I'd play this course everyday
Good Layout Great Value
My wife & I played this course on the way to the Blue Ridege Parkway. The conditions were very good,. Fairways were very nice rye grass. The greens were good, fair and nice speed. Course layout was ok, had trouble on some of the distances on the par 3's, not sure the markers were accurate to the center in f the greens. Overall it was a good course and an enjoyable day.
Good track would play again
loved course except greens. Need to be reseeded. Tough to hold a line and speed was inconsistent.
Disappointed
Hubby and I had played here early summer last year and decided to head that way again after I found a prepay deal at $30. KUnfortunately, that price was far too high for the conditions of the course. The fairways were in horrible conditions - very little grass and my clubs took a beating all day. Many of the greens were like putting on outdoor carpet ... Ball was taking crazy bumps and angles. I really hate to give bad reviews but out experience was just terrible.
Challenging layout
It's a challenging layout. Pace of play was a little rough but overall it's a fun course that make you use the whole bag.
Nice layout
I really liked the course layout. Holes vary from wide open to narrow and tree-lined. Relatively short course but very enjoyable.
Greens in pretty good shape for a dry August. Other aspects were OK, but not great.
Kinda disappointed in the $43 rate by booking via GolfNow. My playing partners got to play for less.
My favorite SWVA course.
I've played here 4 or 5 times in the past year or so and my brother in law tells me it's relatively new management, that this place used to suck. NOT ANYMORE! The course was in terrific condition and the staff are so incredibly nice and friendly it's almost odd. This is easily my favorite course in it's price range and I try to convince everyone in my party to go here when I'm in town. (I live in Charlotte, NC - visit Salem/Roanoke area once or twice a quarter to visit family and/or golf). Auburn Hills rocks!
Great course for the area
Great course, great value, new owner and GM, great things seem on the way
Hilly course - tricky greens.
A very pretty course with a nice layout. Had a hard time on front nine with the undulating greens (kept leaving approach in wrong spot or on wrong tier). Adjusted well on back nine and shot even par.(Back nine has 3 par 5's & 3 par 3's)
Greens good.rest of course poor.would recommend at bargain price only.
See above .Staff very friendly.Good layout. Lack of funds has lead to deteriorated condition
Good value for the cost.
Our family played this course and we all had a very good time. Considering our varied golfing abilities, the course fit in very well. The fairways could use more attention and the ruff was a little high requiring a lot of looking for our stray shots. Overall, for the "golf now" charge, we were very happy with our golf outing at this course.
challenging yet playable
Front nine is tight and requires placement shots, back nine is more open but has great elevation changes that require percise yardage from club choices. Greens are fast, have different levels and roll true. The course is beautiful and has great mountain views. Everyone should play this course.
Challenging, but fair
Front 9 plays tougher than back 9. Few tight holes and narrow fairways; yes there are some blind tee shots. Sidehill lies no matter where you hit it on some of the holes. Recommend playing with somebody that has played here before to get a better read on the layout. Bring enough club on 17!
