Cypress Creek Golfers' Club

About
Cypress Creek Golfers' Club was carefully carved from the mature hardwood forests and centuries old peanut fields of Smithfield. The peacefully secluded setting is the ideal environment for a round of golf and the challenging design will have you using every club in your bag. The golf course will reward creative shot-making and thoughtful strategy but it is not overly punishing for the high handicapper. The rolling terrain provides plenty of challenging ups and downs throughout and there are many water holes, including the memorable ninth, a short par 4 with an island green. Cypress Creek Golfers' Club even has its own "amen corner" that starts with the par-4 15th, moves on to the waterlogged 16th, and finishes with another par 4, an uphill hole that is the toughest of the trio.

Don’t Trust Available Tee Times
Made a tee time thru app at a good price compared to normal, then day before round, Scott called to say it wasn’t available due to a ‘tournament’. They wouldn’t consider fixing it, nor comp the round for a future date. I had to do all the legwork to cancel something they screwed up. Seemed suspicious that they just figured the price was a mistake on their part. Will never schedule there again.
Dog track
I only paid $37 for this round and over paid by $100. Crab grass all around the greens and at least 6” tall rough. Greens were freshly punched and sanded, rolling at a smooth 5.5 maybe 6. Lady at the desk was clueless and apathetic towards me. Tee times were stacked with singles and random “members” with their children taking 25+ minutes a hole. I quit playing at 14 holes and passed two groups of two who wouldn’t allow play thru with 17 and 18 completely clear. Saw a Marshall multiple times who did nothing other than wave. 3.5 hours to play 13 holes.
Greens need to be fixed
The greens are terrible. It needs to be fixed other than that not to bad pace of play is terrible
Cypress Creek
This was the second time I had played at this wonderful golf course this year and I am sure that I will be returning again. The fairways are in prestine condition. Two of the greens need a little work, but nothing that makes it unplayable. Most of the water hazards aren’t in play and add to the scenic beauty to the landscape. There are several greenside bunkers to be mindful of though. If I had one critique to give, it would be the lack of a beverage cart. It wasn’t terribly humid the day I played here, and that could be why. Especially, when most courses don’t allow golfers to bring coolers or cooler bags with water or cans of a cold beverage. Not that this course would not allow this, but I had played at other courses , in other states that specifically prohibit the use of such. So I would highly suggest that the get a beverage cart to drive around. Not only would it make golfing on hot days more manageable and safer, but I would guess that it could increase the revenue for the bar/ restaurant of the course.
The greens need major work and pace of play was terrible.
Course layout is nice but greens need work and pace of play needs to be marshaled. Also no carts were available at tee time.
Love the lay out
Love the lay out & the staff was friendly.Even after they had got 3.5 hours the night before ..Coarse was in great shape...I believe new ownership is doing a great job getting it back in shape.Look forward 2 playing there agai.
Love the layout
I enjoy playing this coarse ...I first played it back in July & fell in love with the layout ..They had about 3 hours of rain the night before so it was cart path only which is expected ...The staff was very friendly....Look forward to playing again....
Excellent course
Course was in perfect shape...cant believe it took us this long to find this place. Will definitely be back...I have no complaints whatsoever.
Course was not in good shape
Greens were very bad with fungus. Course lay out was fun but not worth the money with the course in such bad shape. Clubhouse also was empty. You have the choice of 5 different sleeve of Pro Vs or a box of pinnacles. Nothing else. No hats, shirts, shoes ,etc at all.
The Tree Line Boyz
I accidentally booked this course and have 0 regrets. We will be back to film an episode for our YouTube channel The Tree Line Boyz. The course lay out was amazing. This may actually be my favorite course I have played in Virginia now. Do not pass this opportunity up. It’s a little steep, but worth every penny. Only complaint is there was a 4 man that wouldn’t let us through when we were only a two man. That made the bolts rust a wee bit getting back out to hit after waiting so long. 10/10 on the course and employees!
Round with Father in Law and wife
Pace of play was brutally slow bc of group in front of us. On pace for over 5 hrs. At times there were 4 groups on one hole. On 13 we finally skipped ahead to 15. Marshal was driving around but it didn’t seem to make a difference.
As for course condition, I would say it has potential but it just wasn’t in great shape. Some of the greens had very large blemishes on them.
Greens in Need
I recently played Cypress Creek Golf Club, and I have to say, it’s got a really fun and enjoyable layout. The course design makes for an entertaining round, and the fairways were in fantastic shape—lush, well-maintained, and a pleasure to hit from.
However, that’s where the compliments stop. The bunkers and greens are in absolutely terrible condition. The bunkers are practically unplayable—hard-packed, inconsistent, and neglected. The greens are just as bad, if not worse. They’re bumpy, patchy, and not even worth putting on. It really takes the fun out of the round when you can’t trust the surface you’re playing on, especially considering the price they’re asking.
It’s frustrating because I genuinely enjoy playing this course and would love to come back. But until they fix the greens and do something about the bunkers, it’s just not worth the money. Cypress Creek has the potential to be a gem, but right now, the condition of the greens and bunkers is a dealbreaker. Get those sorted, and I’d be first in line to tee it up again.
Cart path only due to wet weather night before. Tees, fairways, bunkers all in very good shape. Several greens stressed out due to hot weather. Also greens quite slow. Overall course I would rate course conditions 4.5.
Greens were 3.0. We were a twosome, and played behind two foursomes the entire round.
Round took 4.5 hours, way too
Slow.
Top shelf
Always enjoy playing there. Course and staff excellent
Slow Back 9
I played the front 9 at +4. Caught a solo player on #8. He was behind a twosome, as I was playing with a friend. We make the turn to 10 and there's a new twosome on 10, with the solo behind them. Had to wait in this heat! Not sure why the clubhouse would send groups off on 10 completely disrupting the flow of the course..Happens a lot
