Cypress Creek Golfers' Club
About
Cypress Creek Golfers' Club was carefully carved from the mature hardwood forests and centuries old peanut fields of Smithfield. The peacefully secluded setting is the ideal environment for a round of golf and the challenging design will have you using every club in your bag. The golf course will reward creative shot-making and thoughtful strategy but it is not overly punishing for the high handicapper. The rolling terrain provides plenty of challenging ups and downs throughout and there are many water holes, including the memorable ninth, a short par 4 with an island green. Cypress Creek Golfers' Club even has its own "amen corner" that starts with the par-4 15th, moves on to the waterlogged 16th, and finishes with another par 4, an uphill hole that is the toughest of the trio.

Our review
The course was fine. We had a real hassle confirming our teatime at the Pro Shop. The clerk didn’t know what he was doing and said he had nothing on the books for us however, when we got to the first T the starter had our name on the tee sheet to go off at the right time. One of our players had to pay twice because the Pro Shop clerk did not have us on the computer. A real mess to get started, the experience in the pro tee shop took away the enjoyment of our round
Somewhat Disappointing
Had not played here in several years and was surprised to see that course maintenance was lacking. Some bunkers were full of weeds and other debris. Some greens had areas where there was no grass & some tee boxes that were also rough. Compared to prior visits, it just looks neglected. Otherwise, I enjoyed my self.
Scenic Course and Great Layout
Housing course that left some of the good land to create several very scenic and strategic water holes. These water holes are worth the visit alone. Layout and course conditions were great. I was able to play very fast for my morning round.
Cypress Creek- Greens Coming Back!
Been a member of this course for over 2 years. The greens had a tough summer last year. The ownership has been putting in time and money in getting them back and it has really showed the last 3 weeks. With the greens only being 3 weeks from their spring plugging they are very healthy but slightly slow as of this posting due to grass length, but 2 weeks from now I can see them being fully healed from last year and a pleasure and a challenge to putt on! The greens crew has also greatly improved the visual aspect of the course with much needed tree and limb removal. Looking forward to my next round here!!!
Really bad greens
I’ve played this course for years and it’s usually pretty nice. The prices have gone up and the conditions have deteriorated. These are the worst greens I’ve seen in southeastern VA this year and they are still charging full price. I understand that this happens to courses sometimes but at that price they won’t be seeing me again this year. Literally every other course in the area is a better deal right now except Nansemond River.
Unputtable Greens
All 18 greens had major bare spot. They had been aerated and sanded. Who knows when they will grow back in?
I'm guessing next spring. Great layout and quick carts. Hope they get this problem fix soon.
Greens!!
Every green has bare spots. Some of the greens have almost no grass at all. What happen Cypress Creek? Played there in May and the course and greens were in great shape. What's really bad is you're still charging full green fees, for no Greens to play on.
Challenging Layout
The course is in excellent shape! Very challenging iron play. You must hit the fairways!
Interesting layout
Challenging layout. Back 9 will test your game. Great shape. Friendly staff.
Favorite course in Virginia
We enjoy playing golf all over the state of Virginia and sincerely consider this one of our favorite places to play. The staff is friendly and professional and the course is in great shape. Pace of play is excellent and the remodeling of the Tavern looks great! Looking forward to playing again soon!!
Great layout and well conditioned course. True test of golfing ability requiring both driving distance and ball placement. Greens can be lightning fast on downhill putts. Only negative is that they have closed the grill and there is nowhere for non-members to eat or buy a drink. Still a fantastic course and good value for the money, just bring your own food and drinks.
One of the very best in the area!
Absolutely LOVE Cypress Creek. It's remote location in Smithfield, VA makes it a bit of a hidden gem but do not be fooled, if this course were in Williamsburg it would be $90-100 greens fee yet you can play if for around $50. Very fun course that will make you play smart and not always look to hit as far as you can. Will say a few greens & tee boxes were not as great condition as usual but it has been a very hot summer for us with a lot of area courses experiencing that. Either way, play this course! You will not be disappointed & in fact likely leave highly impressed.
Challenging Greens
This course is very well groomed. The pin placements can create challenging holes. Staff is very friendly and always a treat to play
Best Course This Side Of Williamburg
I've been playing this course since opening day. I get out there 6 or 8 times a year. This is the BEST course this side of Richmond/Williamsburg! There isn't a course in Southside Hampton Roads that compares to it!!
Great course for the money
Excellent layout. This is my favorite pubic course in the Isle of Wight/Suffolk/Hampton’s/Newport News area. You need to go to Williamsburg to find anything better. Very open course. If you hit a house, you shouldn’t play golf.
Outstanding Experience
The course was in great shape, customer experience was excellent. There is nothing I could add that is negative. Very well maintained as well. Second time playing here and the new owners are great.
Solid course
I guess you could call this my home course, since it's pretty close to home.
Clubhouse is good, staff (pro shop and restaurant) are friendly and accommodating.
Practice facility is one of the best in the area (though in the Spring, the range gets buggy).
Course layout is solid. No tricks. Front nine is definitely the scoring nine (for me, anyway). #8 is a very good hole, and #9 gives me fits.
Back nine has three of the best holes in the Tidewater. 15, 16, 17 are amazing. Too bad 14 ifairway is always in bad shape.
Awesome layout cool par 3s, greens were rolling good - worth the drive out to Smithfield
