Tahoma Valley Golf & Country Club
About
Located just 45 minutes southwest of Tacoma, Tahoma Valley Golf Course has garnered a reputation for being the driest course in the Puget Sound. The course boasts well manicured greens that putt fast and true. The greens showcase the best of the Northwest's undulating, bump-and-run golf. Its location provides every hole with a stunning view of Mount Rainier. Just shy of 6,000 yards from the back tees, it's not an especially long layout but it is narrow enough to present a challenge. The wide fairways are forgiving, making it player friendly enough for beginners, and there are enough challenges to please high handicappers as well. With an abundance of mature trees throughout, Tahoma Valley Golf Course demands accuracy. The par 3s are particularly memorable for both their views and level of difficulty.

Tahoma
Good course for beginners. Pace of play was very slow due to a lot of partying and drunk players ahead of us.
That was fun but rough
My normal mens club day didnt happen...so on the fly I was off to Yelm to see what Tahoma is all about...it is a very interesting course...NO RANGE...the greens are like the size of a tee complex...awkward slants...tee boxes were my big complaint...uneven with odd bumps under your feet...or fresh sod...which made the longest of tees not long enough for the grass make tee shots hard to hit...for $21 it will be a stop I make in the future....a ton of blind approach shots...
. Fun place.
Great course for the duffer who does not want to get beat up. Challenging enough you have satisfaction scoring. Nice club house and great food.
Bang for your buck
Full 18 holes. Nice little course. Not challenging but you can hit all your clubs- no limitations. Greens are small so hone your short game. Tee boxes remain under construction and alternate tee boxes are terrible. Pace of play is almost entirely up to you. Use the Golf Now app and the economics for a full 18 hole course are outstanding. Bar and grill and pro shop with great staff. No beer carts on the course. Overall- it’s a keeper for us cheap duffers just looking to swing some clubs.
Hidden Gem
Great little links course! Straight, clean fairways with respectable roughs and small, yet speedy greens. Fun for all skill levels.
Not so much
Disappointed with course - too many holes were blind - greens were good however - likely, won’t play there again
Greens
the course had a lot of work in the tee boxes. Course was short and narrow.
Greens were fast. It should be a great course to play in 30 days.
Temporary Tees
Many of the tee boxes were under construction. They've been rolled flat and sod was being laid out. Which meant the temp tees were move up making the holes shorter in yardage. The greens were in very good shape, firm and fast. My only negative is the small greens, I'll play the course again in a few months time when the grass grows in but I will call ahead to make sure the new tee boxes are in play.
Ok for the money
Course was going through some changes in the tee boxes, so some tee boxes had tall grass on them. Also most of the hole signs were not on the tee boxes so knowing how long the hole was was alittle difficult. Getting around seemed confusing as some holes did not have arrows to the next hole and without a cart path on all holes it’s hard to find next hole sometimes. Pace was good, slower groups let me play through.
okay
tee- major work being done on many tees
fairways-good
rough-good
greens-fairly slow but in good shape.... many greens are inverted bowls
traps- not many on this course and little evidence of maintenance on the few that were there
overall the course was a little rough around the edges
Great value, getting better
One of the complaints on this course has been the uneven tee boxes. They are in the process of getting fixed. Today we could have used a course marshal because a foursome had 3 groups sitting on benches waiting on them. Luckily I was familiar with the course and we skipped two holes to get in front of them. Then we finished with the holes we skipped. We finished in 3-1/2 hrs. I’m sure the groups behind us took 5 hours.
Interesting layout
You need to play this golf course before you can feel comfortable with the blind shots.
Sunny day golfing
Beautiful sunny day without a lot of people. Greens were good, fairways had some bare spots.
Pleasant surprise
A very enjoyable course to play. Pleasantly surprised that this course was moderately demanding. Some very interesting holes. Overall great experience from pro shop to restaurant. Staff was outstanding.
Fast play
It was 90 degrees today. There was only a few people on the course. I was able to play 18 holes in 2-1/2 hours walking. It’s a fun course. My only complaint would be the uneven tee boxes take some getting used to. The staff was great and the price was unbelievable. I’ll be back!
Good greens
The greens are in great shape, and the course is in good shape, but the layout is flat and boring at best. It feels like a cheap muni course. Still not bad - especially for the price. Very easy to walk if you want.
