Nice course
This course is in good shape. the greens roll true
Good Value
Nice course with some good points. Though the course was sparsely attended in the afternoon, we ran into a foursome and the pace of play bogged down from there. It turned into a 4-1/2 hour round after flying through the front in less than 90 minutes.
The greens are a bit rough and slow. We may have caught them before mowing. Lots of ball marks (repaired two or more on each green that weren't mine). Sand in bunkers is very thin so better to pick ball clean than blast out.
Number 18 is billed as the most challenging in the valley and it is. Not sure I like it. The percentage of players shooting a 4 on this hole (its a par 4/5) has got to be extremely low and the hole can be a round killer.
Friendly staff, good practice facilities, and a great value, with $27 twilight starting at 11:30 am this summer.
Need some work on the Tee boxes
The course overall was in pretty good shape. The greens were extremely slow. The Tee boxes need to have work done on them. You practically had to get a jack hammer to put the Tee in the ground. Overall it was a pleasant day and I will return
Always enjoy this course
I've played here many times. It is not a long course, but it is interesting and in good shape. If you're a long hitter, you can leave driver in the bag and hit lots of mid-irons on par 4s or decide to bust out the driver challenge some short par 4s in a risk/reward trade off. A few holes (5, 15, 18) are quite difficult and some are there for you to score on. When the wind picks up some shots are very difficult.
The value for your money is very good. The only issue is that with that value the course draws a lot of players who are really there to drink beer, play slow and have no idea of golf etiquette (driving carts right up next to greens, leaving lots of ballmarks) and there are never any marshalls in sight.
Overall though it gets 4 starts for the quality of the course you get for the money. I'll keep going back!
The tee box ground was extremely hard
The overall condition of the course was in good shape. The ground in the tee box area was so hard that I had trouble inserting my tee into the ground. Finished our round in 4 hours.
Good and challenging local course
Overall very good course to play with some challenging terrain - water features, environmental areas, and bunkers. The only drawback is if you find yourself in a bunker, the sand is hard packed and almost impossible to get out of with a normal bunker stroke. Must be chipped out. Other than that, greens are is great shape, and beautiful course with lots to offer.
Golf in Davis!
Loved this course has been some time since I played it and it was great! Very interesting with many sets of tees to bit off what u want, need to be straight on some holes or u will find trouble. Water lurking! My only knock was the bunkers way too wet for the summer, put more sand in or less water. Pace of play was great for and early morning and no wind. Course could be much harder if the wind blows, for sure! Will be back!
nice layout
fairways were in good shape...lots of trees and had little rough, mostly native areas where you were given relief without penalty...some greens were damp and slow and others were dry but in good shape...bunkers had little sand and were hard...course was fun from the white tees but if you want a challenge go longer...worth playing.
Beautiful course, good condition.
The course doesn't look like much upon arrival. Small clubhouse and practice area. First couple of holes are across the street and run along houses. Once you cross back and play #3, the course heads out into the orchards and wetlands which are gorgeous. Each hole is pretty unique and the par 3's stand out playing to different lengths with some sort of water or forced carry in play. My favorite hole is #17, a short par 5 with a carry off the tee over the wetlands. Like most holes on the course, it gives you plenty of room to hit the ball but rewards you for a well struck shot. Overall conditioning of the course is very good. The greens are large but with nice subtle breaks not crazy swales. They were a bit soft and average speed. Pace of play was good but we finished the round behind a five some which I'm not a fan of. My guess is this course could get windy but played calm for us. Definitely worth playing.
Course is in great condition
Played Wildhorse for the third time and love this course. The course including greens were in great condition. For a fairly new golfer the course is straight forward and fair. first two times at Wildhorse the greens had tons of pitchmarks but this time they were near perfect.
Good quick & true greens
I live in the Bay Area & my friends are in Folsom, so this is a great half way meeting point. From the white tees the course plays fairly easy with wide enough fairways and reachable par 5s. The Blue tees are not that much harder. The members often play from the tips (black tees). And that is a whole different game.
The fairways have tight lies, and the greens are big, fast and true.
Good local course
I have played this course many times. It is interesting and has some challenging holes (#'s 3.5,8,12, 18). I think 18 is one of the toughest finishing holes in the area, especially if wind is from the west/southwest.Course was in pretty good condition. Only 2 criticisms. The bunkers were very wet on the bottoms. I know sprinklers get in there, but it would be an improvement if they could be raked after watering, although I know it's extra labor, which is expensive. And, more minor- I am not a real neat freak but the men's bathroom needs some hard cleaning.
Dark Horse
I always find this course interesting--guess it "suits my eye." This day the course was in superb shape. Only hitch was a fivesome in front of us--fivesomes, unless they're very good golfers, should never be permitted. My partner and I skipped #10 to go around them, then played it after #18. Saved an hour. As usual there was wind to deal with, one or two clubs, and today shifted more than usual.
Typical Wildhorse
Managing hole jumping would greatly improve play. This is a common problem that ruins a great course.
Very challenging
This course is hard. The greens were firm and fast and the pins were tough. The greens are well maintained but the fairways need some work. The key to this track is hitting the narrow fairways. Particularly hole 5 and 13 in my opinion the tee shot is too difficult. Hazards are every where with no room for error. Anything off the fairway is tough to find and recovering for par is almost impossible.
Duffer18
The course was in good shape a little dry but decent.
Great course and great fun
I was impressed how well the course has been improved. It was well maintained. The fairway and green were pristine.
Wildhrose GC
Excellent course condition. This course is one of my regular stops. One the best courses in in the Sacramento area.
Excellent condition
Great staff. Great condition. Pace was a little slow. But then it was a nice Saturday afternoon.
