Ledges Golf Club
About
The Ledges Golf Club in South Hadley is tucked away in the Pioneer Valley, an area of western Massachusetts known for its lush, rolling hills. It is a favorite amongst locals since it is one of the best values in the region. The course enjoys scenic views that stretch to Mt. Tom and the Holyoke Range. It is on the shorter side at just over 6,500 yards from the back tees, but the dramatic changes in elevation make it seem much longer. Most of the greens are raised with steeply sloped sides, making accuracy essential since missing them by even just a few feet will result in a serious penalty. The golf course has a heavily wooded front nine that seamlessly transitions into a more open back nine featuring links-style holes. The Ledges is a shotmaker's course that offers several interesting risk-reward opportunities.

Ledges Number Four, Par 4, 276. The fairway is narrow, with precious little bail-out to its right. A driveable hole for the bold. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/22/2022

# Nine, Par 5, 528. These bunkers will snare many an approach shot that is sliced or pushed. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/22/2022

The 10th is a classic downhill par-5 of 564; it’s a three-shotter for all but very long, straight hitters. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/22/2022

The massive bunker that sides green eleven could be a nightmare for those who aren’t all that handy with a sand wedge. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/22/2022

Eighteen (from the left rough): Great finisher where you’ll want to avoid every one of the seven fairway bunkers, including these three. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/22/2022

BEAUTIFUL SCENERY
THE STAFF FRIENDLY AND COURTEOUS. THE COURSE IS INCREDIBLY WELL MANICURED AND IN GREAT SHAPE FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR.
Don't go if you book a Deal time
My friend and I had a 12:30 tee time.We arrived a little before noon. We were told we had to wait for another twosome that had booked for 12:30 because it was done on Golfnow. Took our slip to the starter, and he said we could go right out. Got to the 1st tee and the starter came down and said we had to wait, even though there wasn't anyone on the tee. He said we could go out if we paid FULL price.Waited for a half an hour with nobody around. Other twosome showed up and at 12:25, they let 2 walkers go right out in front of us.On the door to the clubhouse they had a sign that said,"No Denim" rule will be strictly enforced after May 1.Guy in front of us was wearing jeans. I have been to many courses and was always told that if we were ready, and there weren't any people in front of us, go right out. Go to this course only if you pay FULL price.Otherwise, they don't treat you very good. Also couldn't use practice green because they aerated it and had to clean it. It was totally clean while we were sitting on first tee waiting, but they still wouldn't let us on until they put the flags in the ground. Of course there wasn't anyone around to put the flags in the ground. Won't go back or recommend to anyone. Too many courses that WANT you to play on their course.
Fire the Manager
Nice course, but the staff treats you poorly if you book your round on Golfnow.com. if they want to go private, then they should do it and stop treating people like jerks. We won't be playing much golf at this course going forward. There are many courses as nice where you aren't treated poorly because of your booking method.
Adding to list of favorites
2nd time played , this course fits my game, fun holes, can't wait to play again. Kinda busy ( nice Nov. day) but pace moved well. Course mins. from urban area however some holes have feel of being in Berkshires or Vermont.
Nice course to many short holes
Nice course and great conditions. They have a different feel of golf from a 450yard par 4 to a 100 yard pat 3. there are 5 par 4's under 300yatd which is not my type of golf even if i birdied two of them. but all the par 5's where nice and playable . It's a course you can score well on if your off the tee. Nice friendly staff another great deal on golf now $16
Will never play here again...
DISRESPECTFUL & ARROGANT MANAGER-
Bottom line is I have been a good loyal customer of this course since they opened. I have enjoyed playing here but will never return to the course due to terrible experience I had this summer. Avoid this course if you do not want any surprises or do not appreciate being treated like dirt by an arrogant and demeaning course manager with absolutely no customer service skills.
I do not have any issues with the course itself other than the greens get pretty beat up making putting more difficult.
I have a huge issue with the GM of the course who is incredibly incompetent and rude to his customers.
The long story: Over the summer myself and a group of friends booked an 18 hole outing on a perfect summer day. We were really looking forward to playing the course. We arrived to the clubhouse and went through the process as normal. Nothing out of the ordinary and the staff was friendly as usual. We were not informed of any special circumstances or tournaments happening that day.
We finished playing 8 holes when were were approached by a course ranger. He told us that our pace of play was a little slow and wanted to offer us golf carts so we could speed up a little bit because a tournament was beginning soon. Okay, no problem. We are pretty easy going guys and we didn't mind the interruption in play as they offered us carts (even though we prefer walking)
Then, moments later the course manager rolled up to us and told us to move to hole 13. We were about to tee off of 10. The manner in which he told us was very rude and arrogant. He basically made us feel like an afterthought. We were not important to him because a tournament was beginning. Due to his poor course management he booked us for golf that afternoon knowing he was cutting it close but did it anyway hoping the timing would be perfect (which is almost never the case). When most other courses have large tournaments they usually don't book public tee times close to tournament time especially if its going to be a shot gun start!
So we moved to hole 13 and it was pretty ridiculous that this happened but we still tried to stay positive while continuing our abbreviated round.
Just after we finished the 13th hole he came up to us again! He now told us that we had to leave the course. We were not happy about this as we booked a tee time ahead of time and all other courses were booked up as well. He didn't offer us a refund and said that he will only give us a 9 hole credit. We asked for a full refund due to the ruined experience of the outing and because of the way we were treated but he refused and told us to leave. His resolution was disappointing and he acted like this whole incident was our fault. A golf course manager should make you feel welcome and valued at the course. He was hostile and turned the day into a golfers worst nightmare.
If this is standard procedure at the Ledge's then I'm sure they are losing clients. If it's an isolated incident then I hope they can learn from it but it didn't seem like they cared. At least if they admitted to their mistake and tried to make things right I wouldn't have a big issue with what happened. Stay clear if customer service is important to you and your golf experience. I know that I will never return to the course for as long as this GM is employed there. Try Hickory Ridge in Amherst or Cold Spring in Belchertown. These courses are close by and offer a much better experience for your money.
Great place to play
In area for business so played this course before heading home. GolfNow round included a cart, but I opted to walk so staff there gave me walking rate with simple pull cart. Course if reasonably hilly, but totally walkable. Very nicely contoured into its surroundings and well maintained....only downside was I was one week early for the truly spectacular fall foliage colors the area is known for. Nonetheless, definitely a must play if in the area.
Great Course
Always enjoy The Ledges. Some quirky holes makes it interesting. Fairways always best in area. Greens very good.
Enjoyable Round - Great Course
In my humble opinion the Ledges in S. Hadley is the nicest layout in the Springfield; W. Mass area. I have read some not so glowing reviews, which quite frankly baffle me a bit. A couple seemed to point to unpleasant staff, which I have never encountered at the Ledges. And even if I did - I wouldn't let it ruin my round. We all have better days. Back to the course - it was in immaculate condition. The fairways were exceptional; the rough a bit long, but penal as it should be. The greens not yet aerated, and in excellent condition. I did not play my best, but it had nothing to do with the course. The only constructive feedback I have is giving better shoulder season rates. As well as more realistic start times and fees for twilight golf. The Golf Now rate I paid on Monday was fantastic. I would recommend the Ledges to anyone.
Great course with character
Ledges cc has a great layout. Not significantly long for a course but the ledges forces you to manage the course with some pristine conditions with many great golf holes where you have a risk reward options depending on how aggressive you wanna play. A couple drivable par 4 ' s and reachable par 5 ' s can make for a great round.
One of the nicest public courses
We were 2 4somes and to a man, we thought it was one of the better courses that we have played. It is very picturesque. If you are having a tough day, you can still enjoy the course. The greens are challenging, be below the hole, several two tiered greens. Greens, tee boxes and fairways were in great condition. Alot of interesting holes, blind shots, up hill, bunkers in play on all holes, 90 degree dog legs. It helps to know the course. Can't beat the price for this course. We plan a fall weekend trip annually and this course is a must return for everyone. Walking would be tough for the course because of the distance between some holes. The one downside, it would be good if the snack bar/ clubhouse has some breakfast foods, at least some muffins or similar.
What a golf courseexperience should be
As always, much fun. Despite a really cold start at around 40 degrees the course was lovely as usual. Good fairways and greens and , as always, great views and scenery. The course is just the right combination of easy holes (75 yard 3rd which really isn't that easy!) and some challenging ones. (#2) The staff is always helpful and kind and the 19th hole is friendly and good, hearty. well-priced food. Speaking of price, the greens fees etc. are reasonable and they are senior-friendly. Despite courses closer to me, I prefer the Ledges.
Lush
The Greens were so soft! The fairways are like waking on carpet. Great conditions. Fun course with 3 drive able par 4's. Plenty of scoring chances, but you also get penalized for bad shots.
A Real Treat to Play
In a word, awesome. I've played a lot of golf throughout new England and ledges ranks right up there with the very best public courses. Recommended!
ledges
great value, greens in excellent shape, the rough is challenging and penal.
Fantastic scenery
This is an absoluteky gorgeous course in great condition. Mt Tom adds adds lovely viewing as a backdrop. Not a long course but narrow fairways and charector make up in difficulty. One of my favorite courses in western MA for sure.
Wonderful!
Ledges is a beautiful, scenic course, in tip-top condition. As a single golfer, I was appropriately paired up with a M/F couple by the starter (instead of the two hotshots I should have gone out with!). I had a great round, and wonderful experience! The only blemish on an otherwise perfect day was the man at the cash register in the Pro Shop, who apparently hasn't yet figured out that women constitute the only growing demographic in golf . . .
Slow to drain
Played on a Saturday morning. Staff always friendly and course in pretty good shape. Greens receptive to an approach shot. My only complaint is how slowly the course drains. Rain on Thursday and the course still had quite a few spots that were "boggy". In all, still one of my favorite courses in the area and a good value.
Beautiful ,scenic area!
I've played here a few times.Course is always in beautiful shape.Staff is very helpful, food is delicious.I can't wait to return.
