Hard to beat price--course is fine.
If you want to play on a budget, then this is a good course to play on a Hot Deal. In current conditions, I wouldn't pay full price. Looks like they are attempting to revamp the course for the spring and summer. Most of the tee boxes were temporary, none of the greens were particularly nice, and a couple greens were atrocious.
Other reviews that mention blind tee shots are true. If you hit the ball more than 220, you will hardly ever see it land.
The concessions were very reasonably priced I might add.
At the end of the day, I played 18 holes with a cart for less than $15 on a beautiful day. I walked away very happy.
Sudden decline in "fun" factor here
I play here a couple times a month and have been a member since December. Here's what I've noticed.
Pace of Play... A 4 hour round is a distant dream. The last 3 weekdays I have played here, non holiday, just normal week days. It has been an average of 15-18 minutes per hole. Today, out of the 9 holes I managed to get in, there were 5 holes with 4 groups waiting to tee off. Never a ranger in sight in the 20 plus times I've played here
Other golfers... Since starting their 3 year membership deal which I took advantage of, I feel many people took advantage of. The quality of golfer and knowing ettiquite has diminished greatly. Not only keeping a decent pace of play, but to follow cart path rules "I'm a member I can do what I want", to not fixing divots, to my biggest worry, not waiting for the group in front of them to clear before hitting, to sitting on the green after finishing putting, joking around or filling out scorecards while other groups are waiting. These basic things have turned this club from having a blast at to having to warm up and stretch again before each shot. It's just not fun for me.
Course conditions... I ranked it lower than average because there always seems to be something going on maintenance wise. Deep ruts in the fairways from heavy equipment. Aeration that hasn't settled down yet. It's spring, how are there still leaves in the fairways?!?! There's a par 3 where you need to break a tee in half because there's rocks or cement less than an inch under the tee area.
Staff... The front desk people are nice, but they are not management. Any issues brought to their attention are met with a thanks we'll pass it on or an occasional "that's just how it is". This club is run by it's senior members and there doesn't appear to be a real heirarchy of determining if anyone is actually in charge of anything. The members only section of the website has not been working for 3 weeks. I mentioned that today and showed them "no tee times available" for every day in the calendar, and they had no idea it wasn't working. I booked a tee time on golfnow for less than the mandatory cart fee for members.
I hope these are all growing pains from the large influx of new members and things settle back down to how they were where one could play a round on any weekday without it being a 5-6 hour golf ball target practice ordeal. I will check back here in the summer and see if things get better or worse, but it's been a steady decline since their membership promotion started and I can't recommend this course to anyone until things improve.
Not a fun course
Way too many blind shots.
Way too hilly.
Greens in terrible shape.
Two temporary greens.
Tee boxes not maintained.
I won’t be back
Great course for the money
Course is still in very good shape. The greens are far from perfect but are in pretty good shape. Some of the tee boxes are in rough shape still. They didn’t tell us at check in that hole 5 is shut down and a temporary hole 5 is after hole 6. Not sure if there was a sign at the desk I may have overlooked. But overall this course offers great value for the price and the workers have always been great.
Fun Track to Play!
The course conditions are not perfect, but none the less, Oak Hills is always fun and moderatly challenging for us mid-handicap duffers. Fairways are decent, Tee boxes, and greens could use a little work, (which they're doing) but are quite playable....The greens are small, and slick, but there's no sand. Shoot straight for your landing area....It's not long, but it's a little dart-thrower course....Staff is always nice. Members are friendly, all kinds of games going on, if that's your thing....All in all, I would say the fun ratio exceeds the short comings of this track......-Jc
Good course
Relatively short but really fun course to play. Some greens are in excellent condition and challenging but a couple need help. Lots of elevation changes which make it hard not to have wash out in some areas but they are trying hard to keep conditions top notch. Friendly staff!
Nice difficult course
The course was nice to play but very difficult because of a lot blind shots. Some greens were not in a good condition
Bad conditions
Greens in poor shape and tee boxes alot of potential at this course but they really let it go
Improving daily
I have a played this course many times now. The staff is always very friendly. They are working hard to constantly improve this course. It is night and day difference between the spring and fall. Great work Oak Hills staff!!!!
Very nice course
We checked in and went right to the course and teed off no wait. Pace of play was great only had to wait to tee off a couple of times on the back 9. Greens for the most part were in good condition. The staff was were friendly.
Oak Hills Continues to Improve
I play this course about once every three weeks. The greens are generally in great shape with the exception of numbers 5 and 14. They are in the shade and struggle a bit during the hot summer weather, but should improve with fall around the corner. The rough between #10 and #18, and #6 fairway, has some erosion that needs to be addressed, but all in all this course is in good shape. The staff is friendly; I'll play this course again.
Just Ok
Course needs some work but overall a decent value for the $$. Greens are mostly in good shape - some need work. Tee boxes need a lot of work but they are trying. Short course but a fun little track. May be back in the future.
Oak Hills challange
I play this course weekly as it is close to my house. There are a couple of challenging holes and 2 that are questionable legal. I like the fact that there are no sand traps, but the water hazards can be intimidating. I like the staff. Very helpful.
Oak Hills is in Good Shape
I play this course about once a month, and I see improvements each time I play. The bent grass greens are in generally good shape. There are two greens that struggle in the summer heat (#5, 14), but the rest are nice. Bermuda grass is filling the fairways so you will usually get a good lie. There are a few bare spots here and there, but only if you hit it off line. It is located in the country so there are no jet planes landing nearby; nice and quiet.
I recommend this course and will play it again.
First time at the course
Overall a good experience. Staff is extremely friendly, helpful, and passionate about the course. They are doing some work to improve the course in the way of lengthen holes and seeding tee boxes. With that said some tee boxes are pretty rough. Course only has a putting/ chipping green...no range.
You need to play here atleast once.
Love the layout. It's challenging, in that it offers you a little bit of everything. The course is getting better all the time, as they are putting serious effort into improving all the things that needed some improvement. Excellent value. The pace of play is super chill. No rush. You can ENJOY your round here. And you cannot beat the service there. Super accommodating & friendly.
They made way too many mistakes. No pool for my kids and no restaurant. They need to do something fast.
